Part Of The Crowd Posted 28 August 2009 Posted 28 August 2009 Alestorm - Pirate metal, just a gimmick band but still fun nonetheless, great to drink to. The Almighty - Bit of old school rock, nobody seems to have heard of them but they are great At The Gates - A good band, one of the main members of the Gothernburg Melodic Metal movement in the 90's Before The Dawn - Finnish Melodic Atmospheric metal, some stuff is more Hardcore though Blessed By A Broken Heart - A bit Hardcore a bit more light metal, quite good. They do do a bit of grind aswell Bullets And Octane - A bit Punk, a bit Rock, either way Pirates is one of the best tracks on my Ipod. Bury Tomorrow - Screamo/Hardcore band, discovered them through myspace of all places. Cancer Bats - Hardcore/Metal act, they had one of my albums of last year with 'Hail Destroyer'. Capdown - Ska/Punk band originally from MK that made it big nationally, I got to see their last ever gig, which was pretty special. Dark Tranquility - Along with In Flames, one of the first (and best) Melodic Metal bands on the scene, if you like In Flames check em out, if you don't then the Last album would probably be more to your taste. Devil Sold His Soul - Some atmospheric Screamo, quite good acoustic bits aswell. Devils Gift - Lennon Murphy (the woman who Yoko sued for using her first name on stage)'s band, quite good, nothing too special but I quite like it. Dream Theater - Petrucci is god Eluveitie - Bagpipes and metal, it can only be good Enslaved - Very progressive and quite heavy in places, the fact that they all have norse beards makes them awesome Enter My Silence - Melodic Metal 'supergroup' Epica - I don't like the metal they play as much as the symphonic pieces they do, the album 'The Score' and 'Road to Paradiso' both have some great stuff on them. Eternal Tears of Sorrow - Melodic and has some great piano parts in their stuff. Firewind - Proper power metal, none of this Dragonforce melarky Garry Moore - I don't know how you can't know him but nobody seems to, great blues guitarist. Grand Magus - Good band, can't quite describe them but they are quite good, I'd best say they are a Hard Rock band Great Big Sea - Only for their cover of 'It's the end of the world as we know it' I'll continue another time because I feel this is too much

Shall check the rest out over this coming week!
Lillehamring Posted 28 August 2009 Posted 28 August 2009 Not much has changed in a year :General Smuts 68 Alexei 58 Vålerenga 56 Joe. 21 Michael The Work Geordie 20 to be fair, most of my posts have been asking what particular bands sound like... and occasionally i'll chuck in the odd: JAGAJAZZISTS imagine 70s movie music blended with electronica....
The Birch Posted 29 August 2009 Posted 29 August 2009 Mohair, they've split up now though, saw them supporting Razorlight and bought their album there and got it signed.
MPH Posted 29 August 2009 Posted 29 August 2009 i was considering putting this is the guilty pleasures thread... the group is called Plumb. EDIT: annnd there should be a video above this message.....

Jay Posted 29 August 2009 Posted 29 August 2009 The big question, has anyone got what it takes to break into the top 3? Yes and I intend on breaking into this group very shortly!!

MC Prussian Posted 30 August 2009 Posted 30 August 2009 The Cave Singers (fans of Fleet Foxes will rejoice) David Bazan (Seattle-based singer/songwriter, Brendan Benson-ish) DD/MM/YYYY (Canadian Neo-Punk - comparable to Fugazi) The Depreciation Guild (electronicguitarpop, I hear Tears For Fears) Everything All The Time (reminds me of Stars, another highly talented Canadian alternative pop group) The Got To Get Got (Canadian alt-rock) Still Life Still (another Canadian)
General Smuts Posted 3 September 2009 Posted 3 September 2009 This week i arf mostly been listerning too: Bombay Bicycle Club - I only know one mate outside this forum who has heard of these. Edith Bowman (and possibly other DJs) has been playing this loads on Radio 1. And she has good reason to. If their album is anything like Sweet Disposition, then we're in for a treat

Joe. Posted 3 September 2009 Posted 3 September 2009 I'm fancying Dinosaur Pile-Up to get a little bigger in the next year.
StanSP Posted 3 September 2009 Posted 3 September 2009 I'm fancying Dinosaur Pile-Up to get a little bigger in the next year. Genre? Recommended songs?
Joe. Posted 3 September 2009 Posted 3 September 2009 Genre? Recommended songs? Sort of rock really. Summer Hit Single and Traynor are probably their best tracks in my opinion from what I've heard so far.
General Smuts Posted 3 September 2009 Posted 3 September 2009 The album is decent. Not much like that song but check it out. Dis. Tigers That Talked New Cassettes
Joe. Posted 3 September 2009 Posted 3 September 2009 Dis.Tigers That Talked New Cassettes Our Hearts Don't Beat. Oh yes.
StanSP Posted 3 September 2009 Posted 3 September 2009 Sort of rock really. Summer Hit Single and Traynor are probably their best tracks in my opinion from what I've heard so far. Not bad. Just checked both songs out, and prefer Summer Hit Single.
StanSP Posted 3 September 2009 Posted 3 September 2009 Dis.Tigers That Talked New Cassettes Have they got an album out?

Crying shame. Mini Viva The Black Box Revelation (Finners may like these) Animal Kingdom The Temper Trap Chairlift The bottom 3 Val and Alexei should like. Animal Kingdom (do they have an album out already?) and Chairlift are good shouts, Temper Trap I've already known for a while (got the album). Black Box Revelation - nyet, not so my style. Mini Viva - can't listen to any of their songs on the MySpace site for some strange reason and the album's not on iTunes yet. Bombay Bicycle Club I'm sure we'll hear more of in the future, young bunch.
General Smuts Posted 4 September 2009 Posted 4 September 2009 Have they got an album out? Not that i know of. Heard them a few years ago but they haven't done anything since. Shame. Check out Tigers That Talked though.

(Goes into Smuts moaning rant) Belgium band I believe. Very BRMC but without the JAMC glumness. I've got stuff by Bombay, Temper and Chairlift. Cant say I have listened to them much.
