BigGibbo Posted 30 October 2007 Posted 30 October 2007 Failed to take Ipswich up in 4 seasons despite having the likes of Darren Bent around, not sure about him at all. The first season they were in administration & finished 7th the second & third were 3rd & 5th he was unlucky to get beat in the playoffs by west ham twice the fourth they sold all there best players & left him with shit so he resigned
Flynny Posted 30 October 2007 Posted 30 October 2007 Failed to take Ipswich up in 4 seasons despite having the likes of Darren Bent around, not sure about him at all. That'd be two playoff finishes and a 7th with little money, right? Darren Bent was only there for two of those seasons and still really only a promising kid. Okay he's not the world's best manager but he's not Gary Megson either.
BigGibbo Posted 30 October 2007 Posted 30 October 2007 Did well for three seasons though and scored a lot of goals. They lost in the play-offs twice to West Ham which is fair enough really. West Ham were a Premiership team in waiting. If you want attacking football then this is your man. You will struggle to find a better candidate in my opinion. The acceptable face of experience.
Koke Posted 30 October 2007 Posted 30 October 2007 I don't understand though. Who exactly do some City fans expect to come here? Joe Royle is as good as it gets, especially considering the managers available. Look at what Norwich got, it coulda been us for Lords' sake.
davieG Posted 30 October 2007 Posted 30 October 2007 From another Forum BABLUE Posted on 30/10 11:41 http://leicestercity.rivals.net/default.as...=3142,527794369Joe Royle an Ipswich view You do not want Big Fat Joe as your new manager. At Ipswich he played poor quality hoofball with a Premier League squad containing and only got us to 7th in the 1st year. The 2nd season minus a few players we were only 5th. In his last year with no parachute money and players sold we came 14th (our lowest league placing for 40 years). He stifles youth, playing 33 year old has beens instead. The defence was never sorted out and we only got near to the play offs because of the goals that were scored by Bent, Kuqi and Miller. In the last season they had gone so we really struggled. He played 1 up front at home regularly and the football was rubbish. If MM brings him in then you are in for a really bad few months.

Im sure the oldham fans would have a different view.
Koke Posted 30 October 2007 Posted 30 October 2007 This better not happen Yeah, we better get Jose Mourinho. If not, Martin Jol is a must.
Webbo Posted 30 October 2007 Posted 30 October 2007 For all of his good record he hasn't been beating away job offers with a stick. Imo he's a has been and I hope we don't get him, don't ask me who we do want though, haven't got a clue.
Malinki Posted 30 October 2007 Posted 30 October 2007 Hmmm. Unsure about Joe Royle, he has some success in the past but he certainly wouldn't be my first choice appointment. If there is even the slightest chance of enticing Jewell we should take it, otherwise I believe Royle is probably the best of a very average bunch of likely candidates. I can't see Grayson being interested really and I don't think Milan will gamble on Ince either. This is a vital appointment, I just hope MM gets the right man this time, whoever ends up at the healm of our club
Koke Posted 30 October 2007 Posted 30 October 2007 I said it before, we are a little yoyo Championship side who has been absolutely dire for the past 4 years or so. We really are not in a position to be picky. Paul Jewell and Joe Royle are the only real candidates that tick the boxes for most of us. And if we don't want them, then we are a bit deluded. No offence to anyone.
Manwell Pablo Posted 30 October 2007 Posted 30 October 2007 I'm getting very sick of hearing Paul Jewels name. The Bloke cleary was not interested in the job six weeks ago, cleary wasn't interested in the Bolton job, why is he all of a sudden interested in Leicester City now.
Raikkonen Posted 30 October 2007 Posted 30 October 2007 why would he be intrested why would he be intrested

A change of heart maybe. I wouldn't know. My point still stands though. If we dsimiss managers like Royle for silly reasons then I really have no hope for us. We could've have ended up with Glen ****ing Roeder. Look how bad it could have been.
Malinki Posted 30 October 2007 Posted 30 October 2007 I'm not saying Jewell is interested, I'm just voicing my opinion that I think he is the best man for the job and if there is a chance that he could be inticed that we should do so I'm not adverse to Joe Royle either - as I stated above I'm unsure of him but I wouldn't oppose him getting the job, certainly not above Peter Reid

Maybe he has seen the light that Leicester guided in the right direction can again be playing in the Premiership again. But i think he wont see the light somehow...
FilboFox Posted 30 October 2007 Posted 30 October 2007 Oh for christs sake... will Milan never learn!!!
Brainy Posted 30 October 2007 Posted 30 October 2007 Oh for christs sake... will Milan never learn!!! Whats wrong with Royle**
Scow Posted 30 October 2007 Posted 30 October 2007 For all of his good record he hasn't been beating away job offers with a stick. Imo he's a has been and I hope we don't get him, don't ask me who we do want though, haven't got a clue. How do you know that's the case? Even if it was, it could be because: - Clubs thought he might out their range. - He didn't want to consider the offer(s). He's got good experience and a good track record. He's not a manager who's got failure stamped across their records like Souness and Roeder.

Matt Posted 30 October 2007 Posted 30 October 2007 My first response to Joe Royle was (2nd post in this thread I think) but after a few days consideration I have come round to him abit, I'm not sure whether reading some of some other people's reactions has played with my mind or whether he record has played with my mind, Royle still wouldn't be my first choice or top of my list, That quite firmly is Paul Jewell, but as i've said all along I think that's slightly unrealistic, and as other have pointed out he's turned us down (Unconfirmed) and turned Bolton down (Again unconfirmed) but he is still my choice and I believe this time we are within with more of a chance of getting Jewell this time, only just though. Dowie would be second choice but doubt he'd come now, especially is this bastard takeover at Coventry goes through, the Royle is probably 3rd choice along with Walsh/Tags with a DOF
Webbo Posted 30 October 2007 Posted 30 October 2007 How do you know that's the case? Hmm, just a guess really. Even if it was, it could be because:- Clubs thought he might out their range. - He didn't want to consider the offer(s). He's got good experience and a good track record. He's not a manager who's got failure stamped across their records like Souness and Roeder. You've convinced me, problem is he's bound to get the England job when MaClaren gets sacked next month and then we're back to square one.
Fox92 Posted 30 October 2007 Posted 30 October 2007 http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11688_2836029,00.html Sky Sports > Joe Royle Record is good but I think he's had his time. Hope Not
TheBlinding Posted 30 October 2007 Posted 30 October 2007 Megson II This appointment would show the complete lack of ambition at the club.
