BigGibbo Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 Make of it what you will....http://talkingballs.co.uk/showthread.php?t=21594 Not knowing if he's a respected poster on TB as i haven't seen him, im going to take a wild stab at it being aload of b@llsh*t! Also i'd still prefer Ince but would be very enthusiastic about Grayson.
Fat Ron Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 Don't put me in Mandaric's picture frame.People who know me would truly laugh at the idea. Loyalty is close to an obsession with me. It is something I believe in deeply. I did have Grayson high on my list of preferences and had I been in the position of appointing him I'd have taken responsibility for his being successful. I've never been in the habit of breaking with people close to me - be it my wife, my boys, my extended family, my friends, players I signed or coaching assistants - indeed the question has never even arisen. Had it been my job to appoint a manager obviously I'd have spoken to Grayson before any appointment and from that interview I'd have ended with no doubts he would ever be Kelly Mark 11 under my watch. He would have known the approach wanted from the off, would have accepted the challenge or otherwise and, given a yea, would have been backed to the hilt so long as he remained faithful to the principles on which he took the job. On becoming manager he'd have then become "family" and, given any sort of crisis, the only question I'd have been asking would be "how can I help?". His problems would be my problems. We'd have succeeded or failed together. However I wasn't in the position to appoint him. Opinions change in football and mine has been diluted on Grayson since the summer which is when he should have come here. I don't know whether his failing to get the job was down to MM or himself but if MM thought he wasn't good enough then there'd have been a reason and his stock has hardly risen since. If it was Grayson himself who didn't want the job then I'd very rarely ask anyone twice and Grayson is nowhere near special enough to have been an exception. That doesn't mean I won't support him if he comes here either. I supported Megson despite loathing his approach to football and with Grayson it would be no different. He would simply be praised or criticised for what he did. He just wouldn't be my choice any longer. Pardon me Mr T, on reading this post It would lead us to believe you are in fact a former Manager... Could you please confirm if this is true?
Ive got the blues Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 This season - in the Championship - they've scored 17 in 14 games. They've collected 13 points and are in the relegation zone.Inspiring managers conjure something up even when their resources are limited - indeed it's how he copes in a crisis that's a real test of a manager and so far there's not much sunlight. As I said before, I'd sooner have Royle. And I don't want a travelling circus either. I've nothing against Burrows and Taggart - in fact I see no great reason to replace them with Grayson at all - but see even less sense in having Grayson, Burrows, Taggart, Little, Beaglehole, Stowell, Uncle Tom Cobleigh and all. To me that's far too much senior input. We need a manager who manages and directs how things should be right through the club. We don't need his ideas being diluted or doubts being forever put in his mind by the opinions of his assistants. One assistant is fine as a sounding board, to help with player liaison and to offer feedback or a trusted second opinion. But the way we're going we'll have management by committee and I can't see how that will work. Underperforming we might be but more bodies for sake of it is not the answer. If Royle is off to Wigan or wherever I'd much rather stick with Burrows and Taggart right now until either they prove lacking or until the right optiion for Leicester comes along in the form of a genuinely talented, positive and forward thinking manager who can inspire players in any situation to win football matches. Cos these last three years we seem to have lost that formulae despite it being the only one that matters. Nothing about Grayson's approach particularly impressed me when he brought his team here in August - he simply conducted a smash and grab raid. And by the sounds of things that was just about the highlight of his season so far. We need better. We need someone with presence. Someone with the personal charisma to inspire something special. I want a manager who gets in people's faces with his approach. A bloke who puts the fear of God up folk with the relentlessness of his team's football. An efforvescent modern day Kevin Keegan or at least the nearest we can find. Not someone who's approach is the mirror image of everyone else's. Surely that would be the limited resources that led him to take that approach?? To me grayson has done exceptionally well at Blackpool, as far as managing a average championship club, with a big following and more resources then how he would perform would be an unknown.

I don't say he hasn't - that's the reason I quite rated him for manager in the summer. And I'm not criticising the way he plundered the points at the Walkers either. It's just that we've had plenty who've gone for the "win at home, pinch something away" approach here and it hasn't worked for us in the Championship any more than it has worked for him. We need someone more adventurous.

Webbo Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 Some one on TB said at the weekend that it was going to be Vialli and Wilkins, so I'll believe it when it happens. Tbh I'd prefer almost anyone over Royle.

He's not bald Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 Some one on TB said at the weekend that it was going to be Vialli and Wilkins, so I'll believe it when it happens. Tbh I'd prefer almost anyone over Royle. I watched the match last night with one eye on Grayson...I saw nothing in his body language or interaction with his players/staff that even hinted he was on the verge of leaving either before during or after that game, granted it was only for a few seconds at a time but I was taking note...I think it's a case of talking bollox again!
lookwhaticando Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 I did say almost. Why not Royle? Any particular reason (that I may have missed)? Who's your number one target, anyway?
teblin Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 Radio Leics say no anouncement until friday who ever it is.
Webbo Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 Why not Royle? Any particular reason (that I may have missed)? He's a big faced scouse gimp, who's had more clubs than Tiger Woods and been sacked by every one of them. Who's your number one target, anyway? Tbh I wouldn't want anyone who be willing to come here.
Wherethefoxhat? Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 Why not Royle? Any particular reason (that I may have missed)? Who's your number one target, anyway? Because Royal is outdated---------------------that's why Ipswich said "Thanks Joe -but goodbye" And took a "RISK"& replaced him with a YOUNG,AMBITIOUS GUY,who had their club at heart & who has done so satisfactorily that they have rewarded him with a new contract. Why the hell do most of you seem to want an IPSWICH cast -off-Unbelievable !!!!!

Fez of Mahrez Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 He's a big faced scouse gimp, who's had more clubs than Tiger Woods and been sacked by every one of them. Not being picky but four since 1982!!!!
Webbo Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 Not being picky but four since 1982!!!! Huh maybe <_< But that's a big face.
lookwhaticando Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 He's a big faced scouse gimp, who's had more clubs than Tiger Woods and been sacked by every one of them. He's had four clubs. He was at each of them for quite some time (12, 3, 3 and 4 years respectively). He wasn't sacked by Oldham, he quit. And Everton. Not that I'm trying to discredit your opinion or anything. And took a "RISK"& replaced him with a YOUNG,AMBITIOUS GUY,who had their club at heart & who has done so satisfactorily that they have rewarded him with a new contract. Why the hell do most of you seem to want an IPSWICH cast -off-Unbelievable !!!!! We took a risk on a young manager and former player... it nearly got us relegated. We also hired a young, ambitious bloke at the beginning of the season... where's he now? For every 'young, ambitious' former player-turned-manager success, there's three or four disasters. Royle got Ipswich to 7th, 5th and 3rd in this division in successive seasons, despite the club having dipped into administration in that time. His final season was carried out without three players who had scored a combined total of 55 goals in the previous season, which probably had something to do with their slide down to 15th. I agree, we can do so much better.
MC Prussian Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 Why not Royle? Any particular reason (that I may have missed)? Who's your number one target, anyway? It might sound a bit like fantasy, but imagine: How would we fare WITHOUT a proper manager? All those "Who'd come here, who's in talks" discussions would become obsolete. And I'm sure the players could manage themselves. And they'd be held responsible for bad performances and not that poor fella on the sidelines, waving like crazy, trying to make sense of the mess on the pitch. But wait...
Blue Bob Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 From my experience Newton Fox is respected for his knowledge and contacts and doesnt post rubbish - however, he states : He made a few phone calls and the outcome is COULD be. So he is not exactly stating this is fact and will happen. Some my reading into this is he is probably one of the final three. Suprised that if this is the case we have not heard from the Blackpool chairman winging that we are trying to poach his manager. I too think Grayson has done OK - Blackpool are clearly punching above their weight, did well to get up, had a decent start to the season but are now struggling. Cant say I am that suprised as they hardly spent any money in the summer. I have my doubts if he will be a sucess but I had my doubts about Allen and Megson. I know I would prefer him over the likes of Reid, Royle and Souness and if he is backed up with Brian Little as a director of football then I think he has a chance. We took O'neil and Little on when they were up and coming managers and that worked for us, there are other examples and some very recently that didnt. Give the guy a chance he might be just what we need.
Babylon Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 No offense to Newton but his info has been well off the mark lately... It's Bob Hazell you want to watch out for.
ASH17LCFC Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 Talksport reckon its definitely Dowie Who is telling the truth then ?
