mancunianfox Posted 6 November 2007 Author Posted 6 November 2007 I won't be happy unless our new manager has won every single game he has ever managed in.5-0 And won fourteen trophies. All league titles. Mostly our league. And never been relegated. Our fans are morons. Our fans want someone who is experienced yet has never failed. Mandaric better start investing in GM Managers....harder, stronger, faster.
Cheese Me Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 Don't quite believe this yet to be honest. Just trawled through a fair bit of the TB thread and it all seems to be a lot of conjecture (and some dispute about the 'facts' too). Not saying it won't be Grayson - just that I'm not buying that it definitely is him yet. Wouldn't be unhappy with Grayson but I've warmed to the Royle rumour recently.
Raj Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 My mates just told me it could be Grayson. Or Royle Or Souness Or Reid Or Dowie Or That Geezer at Bristol City Or Ince. But it will definetly be a bloke. FACT!

I think most fans are morons. I'm sure it's not just ours

Since I heard the rumour about Gazza, I've really got my hopes now!!! My special mate also said it could be Gazza with Bianca as his ASSistant

Thracian Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 Were Blackpool not the second highest scorers in their league last season then? This season - in the Championship - they've scored 17 in 14 games. They've collected 13 points and are in the relegation zone. Inspiring managers conjure something up even when their resources are limited - indeed it's how he copes in a crisis that's a real test of a manager and so far there's not much sunlight. As I said before, I'd sooner have Royle. And I don't want a travelling circus either. I've nothing against Burrows and Taggart - in fact I see no great reason to replace them with Grayson at all - but see even less sense in having Grayson, Burrows, Taggart, Little, Beaglehole, Stowell, Uncle Tom Cobleigh and all. To me that's far too much senior input. We need a manager who manages and directs how things should be right through the club. We don't need his ideas being diluted or doubts being forever put in his mind by the opinions of his assistants. One assistant is fine as a sounding board, to help with player liaison and to offer feedback or a trusted second opinion. But the way we're going we'll have management by committee and I can't see how that will work. Underperforming we might be but more bodies for sake of it is not the answer. If Royle is off to Wigan or wherever I'd much rather stick with Burrows and Taggart right now until either they prove lacking or until the right optiion for Leicester comes along in the form of a genuinely talented, positive and forward thinking manager who can inspire players in any situation to win football matches. Cos these last three years we seem to have lost that formulae despite it being the only one that matters. Nothing about Grayson's approach particularly impressed me when he brought his team here in August - he simply conducted a smash and grab raid. And by the sounds of things that was just about the highlight of his season so far. We need better. We need someone with presence. Someone with the personal charisma to inspire something special. I want a manager who gets in people's faces with his approach. A bloke who puts the fear of God up folk with the relentlessness of his team's football. An efforvescent modern day Kevin Keegan or at least the nearest we can find. Not someone who's approach is the mirror image of everyone else's.
STUHILL Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 Grayson could be an exciting prospect, would have to keep Taggart and Burrows and maybe even bring in Little too, as I still think he lacks expereince for where we want to be. Jewell still my favourite by country mile especially now his former assistant just been sacked at Wigan and declaring he wants work as manager or coach. But just seems less and less likely. Out of all the names mentioned, Grayson and Royal seem better options if slightly underwhelming, something we've gotten used to over the years with managers and signings.
Flynny Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 I'm inclined to agree. Gary Johnson's showing what can be done with a good League One outfit if you're really that talented a manager. Can we have him? I'm sure Grayson's solid enough, but Burrows and Taggs are doing just fine for me so far. Another win tonight would be 7 from 9, and given the abruptness of Megson's departure it would difficult to argue that this it were a "pressure release" run of form were we to get the 3 points.

With players like Gary Bleeding Taylor-Fletcher, Stephen Crainey, Scott Vernon, Micheal Jackson etc etc need I really go on, it's hardly suprising is it!? He's had no money and had to bring in shit! Although I do agree, my prefernece is Mr Royel.

Bellend Sebastian Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 Did this come from the same stable that said Dowie was resigning in the morning a couple of weeks back? What a lot of old bollocks that was, and this doesn't smell any more convincing from where I am. I wouldn't be against his appointment, but after all the to-ing and fro-ing of the last few months I'd have thought Milan would be going for a bit less of an unknown quantity. I also agree with Thracian in that we need someone that knows their own mind with an assistant manager and coaching staff (a traditional set up, in other words), not some up and coming youngster with a blooming mentor or 'old head' hanging around in the background. Too many cooks in the kitchen spells disaster (I misread this as cocks in Thracian's earlier thread - ideally there wouldn't be any cocks in the kitchen)
ithuriel Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 ok , i have to come clean. milan approached me

The People's Hero Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 Grayson is out of the running. Looking ever more likely to be Peter Reid Peter Reid, Mark Wright and Jonny Arithmetic (currently Bosnia Herzegovina U21 manager)
Thracian Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 So you'd have appointed Grayson in the summer and then sacked him when he turned out to be Rob Kelly mk II? Alright Milan. Don't put me in Mandaric's picture frame. People who know me would truly laugh at the idea. Loyalty is close to an obsession with me. It is something I believe in deeply. I did have Grayson high on my list of preferences and had I been in the position of appointing him I'd have taken responsibility for his being successful. I've never been in the habit of breaking with people close to me - be it my wife, my boys, my extended family, my friends, players I signed or coaching assistants - indeed the question has never even arisen. Had it been my job to appoint a manager obviously I'd have spoken to Grayson before any appointment and from that interview I'd have ended with no doubts he would ever be Kelly Mark 11 under my watch. He would have known the approach wanted from the off, would have accepted the challenge or otherwise and, given a yea, would have been backed to the hilt so long as he remained faithful to the principles on which he took the job. On becoming manager he'd have then become "family" and, given any sort of crisis, the only question I'd have been asking would be "how can I help?". His problems would be my problems. We'd have succeeded or failed together. However I wasn't in the position to appoint him. Opinions change in football and mine has been diluted on Grayson since the summer which is when he should have come here. I don't know whether his failing to get the job was down to MM or himself but if MM thought he wasn't good enough then there'd have been a reason and his stock has hardly risen since. If it was Grayson himself who didn't want the job then I'd very rarely ask anyone twice and Grayson is nowhere near special enough to have been an exception. That doesn't mean I won't support him if he comes here either. I supported Megson despite loathing his approach to football and with Grayson it would be no different. He would simply be praised or criticised for what he did. He just wouldn't be my choice any longer.
Master Fox Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 Peter Reid, Mark Wright and Jonny Arithmetic (currently Bosnia Herzegovina U21 manager) Steve Ogrizovic as goal keeping coach.
