Ollie quick to trash tabloid tattle

Ian Holloway says reports he feels let down by the Plymouth Argyle board are "absolute rubbish", and insists he is not about to join Leicester

The Pilgrims manager, who has guided his side to seventh spot in the Championship after the first third of the campaign, has reacted with irritation to two stories in Sunday's tabloid press which suggested he is disillusioned with life at Home Park.

The first, in The People, claimed Holloway was frustrated with the Argyle board's lack of financial backing, while the News of the World claimed Holloway was on a short-list of names for the vacant managerial post at the Walkers Stadium.

Responding to the first story, Holloway said: "Anyone who takes that seriously ought to commit themselves to an asylum. There's no truth behind it.

"Ask anybody who has ever met me, ask anybody who knows me, how I feel about Plymouth Argyle. They'll tell you the truth. If you need me to say it again, I'm in love with the place.

"I think this is an absolutely magnificent football club.

"These things just get totally out of hand and I can't understand it. The answer from me is that it's absolute rubbish."

And when asked about the link with the Foxes, the Argyle boss added to the Western Morning News: "There's not a scrap of truth in any of it, and it doesn't stop me getting on with my job to the best of my ability.

"At least 15 managers have been linked with the Leicester job, and if I'm one of them then that means we must be doing something right down here, doesn't it? Normally we're off the radar down here."

Nothing there to suggest he wouldn't be interested if Milan came calling.

I thought it did, it seems to me he's perfectly happy there, found his niche in life and it would take more than a loony Serb with a bagful of money to tempt him away.

His security level at Plymouth must be off the scale compared to what he could expect at Leicester.

I have heard that Milan has cut short his holiday... Any truth or background on it or is it just some ****er winding me up??

He's ALWAYS cutting short his fooking holidays man!!! His Missus must be fuming!!!! do you reckon she has got a really tanned front and a lily white back??!!!!

I bet you could find a similar article about Martin Allen before he joined us. I've read enough of those articles never to read anything into them.

Not bothered at all by this. Holloway is an average manager and there's plenty of those about. We're destined for nothing more than an average manager, so there's no point paying compensation for one of them.

Obviously Jean Tigana is the man i'd want if it was possible and to even be strongly linked with him has taken me back abit, but it's not going to happen. So where does it leave us?

I would have a nip at Dave Penney or failing that, Mike Newell. Newell'y at least likes to get his teams playing attacking football. I don't see much else out there that's realistic for us right now.

The only way you can be sure there's any truth in it is if you were told by someone in an official capacity at the club... you know, like a toilet cleaner at the Walkers.

And he hates women officials, surely that has to be on th job criteria?

I really don't see Ollie leaving Plymouth for us, to be honest. I believe him when he says he loves the place, he's always been extremely West Country and they love him over there. His quirkyness fits in wonderfully, he's promised to take them up and I think he'll give it at least another couple of seasons before he considers it to be a lost cause.

Jewell, Dowie, Grayson/Little, Cotterill

Unfortunalty not.... Although the chap in question "claims" his friend works in an administrative capacity at City...

Until its confirmed by the club, I think I'll take it with a rather large pinch of salt

I'll be suprised if Holloway leaves Plymouth, i get the impression that he is happy down there, loves the fans, loves the area. I just think hes a solid championship manager, i dont see him ever taking a team up or down.

I thought Newell did an excellent job at Luton and could have done even better if he had been allowed to keep his best players.

However...since he has left Luton it has been revealed that he had a clause in his contract that entitled him to 10% of the transfer fee of any player sold. Given how outspoken he had been about dodgy transfers, agents, bungs and the use of transfer money by the board that has unmasked him as a massive hypocrite.

Despite him being a good manager I wouldn't go anywere near him if I were Mandaric.

Jewell is as likely to come here as Harry Hill will grow hair again. Dowie's no better than most of the out of work managers we have been linked with and Grayson seems reluctant to leave Blackpool just yet. Cotterill is every bit as negative as Megson and I don't and can't put up with that.

The Luton Chairman at the time was a right dodgy bastard though so i'm slightly cautious as to what to believe about that revelation. Plus, Newell wasn't the one who agreed to giving him that contract if it was true, the Luton Board and Chairman should be disgusted with themselves for allowing such a contract to be in existance.

Newell would do well here IMO.

Is it me or does he seem to be personna non-grata? Could it possibly be that football has closed ranks on him. Case of he might have been right but he shouldn't have said so. Or am I imagining it?

I agree that he could potentially do a good job but he comes with too much baggage. That clause in particular and the Amy Rainer (spelling?) saga made him look very bad indeed.

Good point. If he came here are clubs going to be keen to negotiate with him in transfer deals? Would he scare off clubs and then not be able to attract quality players to the club?

so really, no one has a clue who the next manager will be, where he will come from and how long he will be here for...

we dont know anything about when it will be or anything!!!!

Oh the joys of being a Leicester City fan!
