Finnegan Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 It'll be even better when Wales finish bottom Haha, I was just about to say that, yeah. The only thing that worries me about the home nations cup is the fact we'll get a royal pasting. Though I'll never forget Earnie's hat-trick past the Scots, or that night in general. I'd be up for it every year, or every two years to be honest. I think it'd be healthy for Welsh football. I can understand the concern from the English though, in terms of playing too many games, if it was every year.

Finnegan Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 I think if it was every year it would ruin the prestige of it.I remember when Wales alomost qualified for the Euro's. What the hell's happened since? Every two or three years would be alright. Every year wouldn't be that bad, look at the 6N. Oh, and John Toshack happened. As did a series of unfortunate injuries, retirements and an over all lack of any sort of international quality defence.
Bert Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 Every two or three years would be alright. Every year wouldn't be that bad, look at the 6N. Oh, and John Toshack happened. As did a series of unfortunate injuries, retirements and an over all lack of any sort of international quality defence. Don't forget every other 2 years there's a major international tournament. You couldn't always bank on one home nation not qualifying. I think it's different in rugby. I've not heard, or don't know of one primma donna. If it happened every year in football, players would moan, and it would be done at the end of the season, whereas 6N is midway through the rugger season.
Milky Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 Oh cry me a river, baby cakes. If you can't stand the sawdust get out of the woodshop; because there's chips a plenty here. One on every shoulder. You want to go watch the Tigers play Bath and enjoy some merry, sporting brotherhood then be my guest. But this is football, lad, and a bit of passion is what makes the support so enjoyable. Ask SUAS. You think the Scots would have that edge, that ferocity, that Hampden Roar if they were all sat clapping along, nodding in unison and hoping and praying England make the finals?Give over. Stick to your prawn sandwiches and let the people with a bit of character, a bit of edge fill the seats - and the more sheep-shagging chants they can bellow out at the Home Nations (if we get it) - the more I'll get involved slinging it right on back. We call it atmosphere. I don't want England to do well - and moreover, I don't want you to want Wales to do well. I'm used to that, I'm over that - so should you be. You're not Welsh, you're not Scottish, you're an England Football Fan - embrace it and let the Jocks do the same in visa versa. You seem to have made an essay of an argument from one little sentence i wrote. All of those things you've said, they are your words, not mine. You've completely made up a side of the argument, and i've not contributed a single word to it! You've made countless assumptions about what i'm supposed to believe, and you have sod all evidence to back it up. There's something really nasty about your character. It comes through in almost every post.
purpleronnie Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 I couldn't care about a home nations tournament, I can barely drag myself to watch england in the world cup. It would be funny to see the scotish fans fill wembley though. Scotland v england matches always seem to be more important to the scots than the english.
Finnegan Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 Not really sure what you don't quite get, son. You suggested that the Scottish "grudge" annoyed you and is "getting a bit boring now." I'm defending said grudge and likening it to any other footballing rivalry on domestic and international level. There's something really nasty about your character. It comes through in almost every post. Frankly, it's that crybaby, whiney-little-bitch sort of response that just eggs me on, really. I love the likes of you and ashlcfc having a good old cry or - in his case - throwing the toys out of the pram and trying to be abusive. I don't have the same problem with the Manwells, the Fez', the Berts, the TPHs, the Alex' of this forum and so on and so forth. There's a reason for that, kid. They've got spines and can take a bit of abuse, they shell it out back, too. But mostly because they don't provoke it in the first place by being flat-out braindead.

Finnegan Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 But i wasn't talking about the football rivalry, i was refering to society as a whole. Right well I'm going to present you with the opportunity to either shut me up or shut up yourself, here. Quite predictably I'm going to turn around and say: "Alright mate, and how long have you lived in Scotland then?"

He does have a point, there are some people who harbour extreme biterness towards us English and the Scotts are the main culprits, although I'll admit the amount of English haters out there are blown out of proportion. It is weird to me how some people, my age, can still feel hard done to over something that happened hundreds of years ago. I don't hate the Norweigans for raping, pillaging etc etc. I once had some Irish bird, at 2am lecturing me on the ****ing Irish potatoe famine and telling me what an evil English basterd I was and how my country had a lot to answer for. I was then kind enough to ask her back to mine for a plate of potatoe wedges, and she went loopy.

From what fine specimen did you breed from??
Finnegan Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 Edit: This forum doesn't need another lesson on Welsh history, it didn't need the first, second or fourty fifth ones so I won't start dribbling down the page because I know you don't care. The only two points I'll VERY briefly make are: 1. You're right, anti-Englishness DOES get blown hugely out of proportion. I think there's this huge culture in England, especially in sport, to really, really play on the fact that you think the whole world hates you. That's really not the case. Watching the Austrians and Israelis and people on SSN talking about how much they like England and would love them in Euro '08 made me smirk, really. 2. It's very easy to dismiss English atrocities (physical or political) as being "decades ago" or "centuries ago", but when you have events like - for example - the Treachery of the Blue Books that went part way to the attempted eradication of an entire culture, branch of a religion, way of life and language and the government and community responcible for it still doesn't really accept it's impact or even know much about it some 150 years on is slightly offensive in a lot of people's eyes. I don't hate "the English" and I think that's the view of most people in Wales and Scotland. There's just a hell of a lot of us that don't like the concept of Britain or "British."

Just my point of view...

Yeah but, water under the bridge surely. I know as a race we've been responsible for about as much death and suffering as any one else bar Ze Germans. But we are talking Hundreds of years ago? I know unlike the Germans we don't give to shits about what we've done but it's buried further in the past and is spread out througout our history. we've done so many unfavourable things all over the planet you'd have to be a bit of a history buff to know about all of them.

Narh, that doesn't wash, sorry. I think it's that that actually offends me more than what happened. Don't get me wrong, A. I fully understand that most past events are a product of their era and you can't judge them by modern standards and B. the "English" as a general public aren't too blame and I don't. But it does infuriate me, as someone whose fairly well read in my own history - but having been educated largely in England (certainly in my teens and up) that the British, or at least, the English have a habit of sweeping the evil of The Empire under the carpet. In cases like the Americas and the Africas it's a tiny bit more understandable - but when you're talking about your own backyard? We're supposed to teach British history and the closest we get to covering beyond the good "Britain" did is spending maybe a week in year nine learning about the Potatoe Famine and maybe a lesson on Cromwell in Ireland. If you learnt some good home truths in your classes I'm sure you'd be far more accepting of a 150 year old grudge.

It was all those evil English and no good ever came from the Empire. PS. You did over react to Milky's post as you have a habit of doing.
