AyewJoking Posted 15 November 2007 Posted 15 November 2007 Home nations my ass, what Englishman worth his salt would want to see Scotland qualify???
Raj Posted 15 November 2007 Posted 15 November 2007 Home nations my ass, what Englishman worth his salt would want to see Scotland qualify??? maybe an Englishman who lives in Glasgow???
Milky Posted 15 November 2007 Posted 15 November 2007 The Scottish just annoy me a bit now. The grudge they hold against us is getting really dull.
Bert Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 The Scottish just annoy me a bit now. The grudge they hold against us is getting really dull. Too right. I think the word grudge, in this instance is likened to jealousy.
lookwhaticando Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 Home nations my ass, what Englishman worth his salt would want to see Scotland qualify??? One that places greater store in the Union rather than its component parts, for a start. I am British before I am English. Sure, competitively, in rugby or football for example, I support England - but only because there's no other team that represents my allegiance more closely than that. In football there's no Britain, so instead I support England - being mostly English. For some it's not quite as simple as simply not liking Scotland, for various reasons.
Manwell Pablo Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 Too right. I think the word grudge, in this instance is likened to jealousy. Seriously mate, the Scottish are pretty bitter and the fact that SOME OF THEM AKA NOT ALL OF THEM want us to fail in everything we do does get quite tiresome, but I think their reasons run a bit deeper than simple jealousy.

So they're still jealous then? I'll bet you the majoirty of Jocks would rather us fail than do well.
Finnegan Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 The Scottish just annoy me a bit now. The grudge they hold against us is getting really dull. At times I grow to like you. Then I just start to think you're the most boring, humourless little bastard on this forum. For Christ's sakes. Where's everyone's sense of fun and banter? We're all for laughing at Leeds, Forest, Derby and Cov failing but when it comes to the National Game we have to be nice and polite? Bollocks off. It's nothing to do with race, creed or religion - end of the day it's an aeons old football rivalry and it's healthy for competition! Long may it reign! 'cos [sing it with me BartonFox/HeadHoncho!] We Hate England! We Hate England! Weeeeeee Hate England More Than YOOOOOU!
Alexikokopops Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 I want Scotland to qualify. Not because "it's nice to see them do well" or "we need some home nation representation". Purely because it really shows how awful we are if Scotland qualify from a group with Italy and France in, yet we're struggling to manage it when our biggest rivals are Croatia and Russia. We're a bag of knackers, and people need to realise this, and stop making excuses like "we don't have enough English in the Premiership so we need quotas, blah blah blah". My hands smell of Fez's sick, give me a break. Otherwise I'm quite happy not being a patronising bastard and saying fook you to all the other home nations
Brainy Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 I read somewhere(think it was teletext!) that the number 17 is bad luck for Italians. Some hotels dont have a Room 17 and some football teams omit the number 17 shirt. Scotland v Italy is on Nov 17th at 1700hrs!!! Quite odd considering all their home games have kicked off at 1500 hrs
purpleronnie Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 Hope they do it their fans are amazing. At least one home nation team will be there.
Floating Fox Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 Just want them to go through becasue they show our fans up really. Great support Not really bothered about the Union etc
Kent Fox Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 I hate the Jocks! Not as a nation or a people, just as a football team. I am old enough to remember the old Home Internationals (Bring them back bandwagon due to start). The Jocks were appaling. They trashed Wembley. I hope they get absolutely fcuking hammered. I hope they never get into a major tournament again. Fcuk 'em! In the nicest possible way, of course
Head Honcho Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 Apparently though...if none of the home nations qualify there will be a home nations championship arranged, better than nothing i guess...but if Scotland qualify that ideas screwed. What! Do you mean the same Home Nations that England at one point in time deemed themselves too big too compete in?
Dr The Singh Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 What!Do you mean the same Home Nations that England at one point in time deemed themselves too big too compete in? Yes!! I care about Scotland, alot, they make Whisky for god's sake!!! I hope they qualify, atleast there players don't act like overpaid premadonna's!!!

I was at Wembley in 1977 and 1979 and also at Hampden Park in 1989 and the behaviour of the England fans in 89 was responsible for the demise of The Rous Cup and future England v Scotland friendlies. The pitch invasion may have seemed riotous but I didn't see one bit of violence that day, unlike 1989 where not only did I see violence between England and Scotland fans but violence between fans of different English clubs.

You talk about fun and banter, but what you've just said couldn't be further away from that. Also, what i just said has been echoed by Bert, Manwell and many others. For you to come out with an abusive attack on me like that shows you up i think. Speaks volumes for the kind of person you are. Totally out of order. As for "race, creed and religion", i didn't mention any of those, you've completely blown everything out of proportion.

Oh cry me a river, baby cakes. If you can't stand the sawdust get out of the woodshop; because there's chips a plenty here. One on every shoulder. You want to go watch the Tigers play Bath and enjoy some merry, sporting brotherhood then be my guest. But this is football, lad, and a bit of passion is what makes the support so enjoyable. Ask SUAS. You think the Scots would have that edge, that ferocity, that Hampden Roar if they were all sat clapping along, nodding in unison and hoping and praying England make the finals? Give over. Stick to your prawn sandwiches and let the people with a bit of character, a bit of edge fill the seats - and the more sheep-shagging chants they can bellow out at the Home Nations (if we get it) - the more I'll get involved slinging it right on back. We call it atmosphere. I don't want England to do well - and moreover, I don't want you to want Wales to do well. I'm used to that, I'm over that - so should you be. You're not Welsh, you're not Scottish, you're an England Football Fan - embrace it and let the Jocks do the same in visa versa.

Pour example going out and buying Argentina shirts when we played against them in the World Cup, pointless. Oh and then there was that poor lad of about 12 how got twatted square in the head by some twat of about 25 in Scotland just for wearing an England shirt.
Master Fox Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 I think I'm going in the jock strap on this one.
Finnegan Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 Yeah but these people are just dickheads. There's dickheads everywhere, in every walk of life - the only difference is the English tabloids really love to jump on it and make out how bitter and grudge-bearing the jocks are and all of this rubbish. It's just a rivalry. When there were West Ham fans jumping around in the Barcelona fans section when Chelsea, I think it was, conceded at the Nou Camp and they got on tv - I giggled. It was funny. The violence I don't condone, on any level, but it really, really, really, really bugs me when people get all snobbish about international-level rivalry. Just see your national team as one, big club. At the end of the day - they're all just sporting teams.

For some people it means a lot more than that.

Hopefully we will get this home nations cup thing if it all goes tits up for us and Scotland (more than likely) the banter between the home nations is rather comical.
