Vennegoor10 Posted 11 December 2007 Posted 11 December 2007 Disjointed sentances, awkward silences, "Jonny Haynes". Didn't have an answer to many f the questions put to him and seemed to repeat himself on his views. Where's Rowett, Guppy, Walsh or anyone else when you need them!
Bert Posted 11 December 2007 Posted 11 December 2007 Give him a break, it's not as if he's a proffessional at it like Barber, who is always bad.
The Reverend Posted 11 December 2007 Posted 11 December 2007 Crikey mate, it was probably his first ever time doing radio, hes obviously looking at life after football and fair play to him. Like Bert's said,if he was a professional like Barber, then you'd be worried. After all, if Walsh,Guppy etc were that good, they would'nt be constantly changing them would they?!
Thracian Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 He was determined not to criticise any of the City players.
Manwell Pablo Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 I'm just happy he's making some money out of football. Poor bloke. Terrible commentator, if we had good standerds of commentating I might say get rid of him, but we don't. In fact Matt Pipers inabilty to engage John Barber in bull shit small talk makes the fool actually commentate on the game for a bit longer than usual.
DanTheFoxBhoy Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 Sounds like he could have done with a line of something before he got on air...
James. Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 I'm just happy he's making some money out of football. Poor bloke. Plus he had the sort of Leicester accent that makes me nostalgic of times gone by...
Geo V Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 If ex-City players like Mark "The stutterer" Bright and Matt "Whining" Jones can get jobs then so can Piper. Lineker has done well and seems to know what he is on about but there are some right planks for pundits and co-commentators about these days. Garry Birtles has got to be one of the worst. He`ll say that was never a free-kick as the game goes on but never admits he is wrong when a replay clearer shows it was a free-kick. He just sticks to his guns the bearded barsteward!
Micky Ruddle Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 Lets not be too harsh on the lad vennegoor. It was his first time as a commentator. Take it easy on him. He was nervous bless him. He'll be alright. At least he did talk sense, unlike Babs!
Darkzzz_ Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 I was the best pundit i had a text read out Mine was just before yours, i heard them mention "The Stig" I thought Matty was ok, but to be honest he aint no Walshy, but he wants to make money out of the game that was robbed from him so fair play to the lad. Barber, he just does my head in at times...does anybody else notice he always uses the word " Gangly".... " here comes gangly and he puts a pass into gangly and gangly shoots and yes!!!!! Gangly scores...... " Ok maybe not that bad but you get that picture right?
mancunianfox Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 He was determined not to criticise any of the City players. Makes a refreshing change for once. Walsh has starting to annoy me over the last couple of weeks and at least I didn't have to listen to Walsh preaching about how he could do a better job despite no experience and no knowledge of the demands of the job.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 He was hopeless but that's never been a barrier to anyone else being a soccer pundit, and in fairness, although he sounds a bit thick, he probably doesn't sound any different to 80 per cent of footballers and the people that go to the matches. I did laugh when he seemed to think long and hard and then say 'I don't think we can come back from this' when we went 3-1 down. Like someone's already said, it's nice to see the lad earning a few quid from a game that he's very unfortunate not to be playing anymore.
Zingari Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 Makes a refreshing change for once. Walsh has starting to annoy me over the last couple of weeks and at least I didn't have to listen to Walsh preaching about how he could do a better job despite no experience and no knowledge of the demands of the job. yes ; just imagine how bad things could have been with walshy in charge ;
jumbo mills Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 He wasnt that bad, when radio leicester employ barber there standards are not that high
Fez of Mahrez Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 It's an old boys club, just like management. They should hold auditions for fans and get someone who cares AND actually describes the action. It's no good having experience of the situation if you can't express yourself on air. That doesn't just apply to Piper but pretty much anyone I've heard. And don't get me started on Barber.
Tommy G Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 To be fair to him it was his first time on the radio, probably a bit nervous. Did provide some entertainment however which the game lacked.. He sounded like a combination of tired/drunk/'lesta' accent
jonw88 Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 To be fair to him it was his first time on the radio, probably a bit nervous. Did provide some entertainment however which the game lacked.. He sounded like a combination of tired/drunk/'lesta' accent "That was neva a penaltehhh" I also liked how he thought that Ryan Babylon had scored for Liverpool... classic. But seriously, get Walshie back.
AoWW Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 I agree with all that.Plus he had the sort of Leicester accent that makes me nostalgic of times gone by... I didn't hear it so I can't really comment. But, aw, I'm a sucker for a Leicester accent.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 I didn't hear it so I can't really comment. But, aw, I'm a sucker for a Leicester accent. Makes a change from the usual £20 charge.
Tommy G Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 "That was neva a penaltehhh"I also liked how he thought that Ryan Babylon had scored for Liverpool... classic. But seriously, get Walshie back. Raj Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 I like Matty Piper. he talks like what i do. A true Leicester lad. keep him on.....
The Stig Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 Mine was just before yours, i heard them mention "The Stig" I am The Stig. Bet you didn't know he was a Leicester fan.
