How do you build muscle?

Recommended Posts

Think I need to be physically stronger...how can i gain muscle without weights because i don't have any. Any tips/advice anyone?:thumbup::thumbup:

Slot part A into part B, glue parts A & B to part G and write letter to IKEA about missing parts D to F.

Hey presto - DIY muscle.

Push ups, sit ups plenty of stretching of increase the blood flow to the muscles.

Eat the right foods, cut out the fatty crap, chocolate, crisps ect..

Or... neck some roids!!!

Ahh yes..

I wouldnt say so without weights. Actually pretty much impossible. Any areas you want to build up in particular?

Arms, shoulders, chest, legs?

How much do you weigh and how old are you? These are all vital factors

And don't stuff yourself full of protein if you're not going to utilise it.

And if you want to build mass, your should get some weights/get to a gym. If you just want better definition, situps, pressups etc should be alright, I think

Yep. Eating excess protein will just make you loose weight if you don't use it properly. People think stuffing yourself with shakes will make you into some kind of machine but it really doesnt work that way!

Eat 4500 cals a day > Full body work out at the gym, 3 times a week = great success (borat style)

You need weights I'm afraid. Free weights, not the machine ones you get at gyms.

You need to join a gym full stop. Using free weights initially. Machines are pointless, until you get to advanced stages of training then you can use them to shape particular muscle groups. Your probably a couple of years off that stage however.

Sit ups won't give you a six pack either

Start lots of fights at school.

You'll need to pick soft targets at first, and build up gradually.

I suggest trying to steal some sweets from the little girl in 5B - the one with ribbons in her hair. She may look weak, but she'll fight for her sweets.

Then, start calling that chubby little lad in 8B (I think his name's danny) fat... he won't appreciate it. He'll cry a little, then he'll rip into you. Good progression.

Then pick on someone your own size... it'll hurt like hell because you'll get your arse creamed, but as they say... no pain, no gain.

Alternatively, find some heavy boxes around the house (you must surely have an attic crammed full of shite) and lift those.

Machines are designed for beginners. They assist with movement and prevent injury, common amongst new gym users, who use improper technique with free weights.

And sit ups will help give you a 6 pack if done properly.

Im sure i remember a conversation similar with you a while back on here, with your odd claims

Go to the Chebs thread and fap away. If you use the other arm after each fap it should balance out.

Each to their own. Although, I have taken the advice I got a while back and that was dont touch machines. I use them for only 3 exercises now, the rest are static movements or the use of free weights and bench press. I haven't done so badly out of it.

Anyone can use free weights, its not necessarily the technique thats the problem. New users feel the pressure to lift too heavy and therefore develop a bad technique. If you've got enough self belief and guts then you should lift what you can manage then build from there using the correct technique.

To the subject of sit ups and abs. Busting out millions of crunches wont give you a six pack if your body fat percentage is over 15%. Between 5-10% and you will have abs. In my routine I hardly do any abs work whatsoever, and mine are fine. Abs will devlop naturally if you do lots of core work, you don't need to Isolate them whatsoever.

I would like you to back up my odd claims?? I have probably said in the past whats worked for me, and if thats not giving advice then I dont know what is..

For a start, static exercises are useless, and are proven to do significantly less than actual movements. Im presuming that you mean static, as in holding a certain strenuous position for 10-20 seconds, then relaxing. Or, you are referring to static exercises, known more commonly as "isometric"? If thats the case, you clearly learnt what you think you know, from Mens Health lol?

Indeed, anyone can use free weights. Machines are targeted at beginners or people who need rehabiliation. But they are massively useful to regular exercisers. For example, training your back without any machines, limits you to around 4 exercises. Not exactly variation. New users only feel pressure to lift heavy, if they are training with irresponsible people who know nothing about exercise and push them into believing the ethos, that heavier is better.

Sit ups; i never mentioned anything about doing millions of sit ups. 3 sets of 15, twice a week, can make a dramatic difference to abdominal strength. Slow, concentrated movements. Abs do develop if you do lots of core work, but for the average person, this isnt what they want to do. Crunches, a form of sit up, are widely renowned as the best stomach exercise

Ive been in the industry for a few years now, and have trained regularly for longer than ive worked. Ive given thousands of inductions, and im not claiming you dont know anything, just think you've been misinformed by someone who knows very little

Plenty of w*nking, protein shake, high protein diet, gym regularly, take ages to see any effect though. be patient

I don't learn anything from Mens Health, just a general read. You seem an expert by the way you talk yourself up.

How much do you weigh? Height? Whats your routine like, do you do full body or split work? I

'd say abs development comes from doing things like chin ups, that works your core more than doing sit ups. Sit ups really are more effective if your doing it on a decline, thus more resistance.

You have to agree that you cant even develop abs unless you have a certain body fat percentage..

You mention new users feel the pressure to lift heavy heavy weights if they are training with irresponsable people?

I'd say they just generally feel under pressure from the meat heads in the gym who lift heavy, and people try and strain themselves and think they'll get big from copying them.

I started light and now im up to about 90kg bench press and a massive increase in free weights. I got most of my advice from other people who know what they're doing, and their bodies speak for themselves.

My opinion is don't use machines, start off with light dumbells.

We obviously differ on opinions
