She had already survived a suicide attack prior to this one (in October):

140 people were killed back then (!!!), but she managed to escape unharmed.

Crazy countries there are in this world.

It is sad, but then she put herself in a prime position to be asassinated. It will be interesting to see what unfolds in the next few days as a result. Civil unrest I imagine. Another excuse for Musharraf (sic) to re impose military rule?

Very Sad news, but that country is so fooked up all this religion shit they will keep killing them selfs in the name of religion, they need to get into the real world not some old world they want to go back to,i bet the guy who pulled the pin,is going to be pissed off when he finds there are no virgins waiting for him,and he is just a load of bits.

When I heard the news this morning my heart sank.

People say she was foolish to go out in public and give rallies and talk to the public, but how else can you go about campaigning for election to government?

She was a brave and dedicated lady that gave her all to her country. She began her political service to Pakistan at the age of 16, and when she returned to her homeland in October after enforced exile she must have known the huge dangers she faced.

She put her faith in her beliefs and sadly gave her own life in the persuit of a better Pakistan. She loved her Country and it's people.

RIP Benazir Bhutto

I pray you did not give you life in vain.

Is anyone really surprised at this news?

A brave woman but also very foolish to believe she had any chance of bringing peace to the area.

RIP

Luckily not everyone thinks this way, or no headway would ever be made in any area of our lives...

PS: Know what you mean though!

Sad news indeed. However, I'd say

"Well done to her and let's hope her example will bring fruit" :scarf:

Yeah - especially if another bomber had got there first.

Brave woman though, Bhutto - if one who was inevitably tempting martyrdom.

Its a great shame. But it must be remembered that this lady was never going to be the solution in Pakistan. She was a brave, principled woman, but not thats country's saviour. Her two spells in office were very divisive in Pakistan. She was however democratically elected, and any victories for her would have been steps in the right direction. Unfortunately she has now left behind her a nation of people almost bereft of any hope. Precisely the kind of conditions the Brtish Empire and the Soviet Union and United States left behind in many countries after Empire and the Cold War respectively. Many of these other nations became failed states and hot beds of terrorism. We can only hope Pakistan doesnt implode and experience the same fate. RIP Benazir Bhutto.

sadly, i am not suprised....

In a strange way i can see that this can only strengthen the call for democracy she gave her life trying to bring....

Hard to imagine it. But it does put a lighted match in a dangerous tinderbox.

Think it will kick off big style in Pakistan...(and i dont mean in a football sense!!!)

If I was in her position, I would have done the same thing. It was always a risk going back.

RIP.

It was always suicide going back but do you think her death will end up serving a positive purpose?

It s amazing how these sort of people dont care about their own safety in order to do what they feel is the best for their own country and people.

Thats the difference between them and us mere mortals.

They reckon Al Qaeda did it.

More like the military ruling party.

BUt i dont know enough about it,so id best shut up....

Religion is divisive and has a lot to answer for.

I appreciate that this is a generalisation but I'm sure that pretty much EVERY religion has been cited as a reason for one war or another at one time or another. It's not just wars either.. look at the way many people in this country view jehova's witnesses etc.

Where will it end?

Its funny religion...

its like you are going from Leicester to London(Stay with me here!!)

There are many ways to get to your destination.

You could go by train, car, coach,or plane(if your rich!)

All the ways will get you there, all have disadvantages and advantages but you'll still get there eventually!!!

Religion is abit like that  ....your end result is god realisation and spiritual contentment...but which way is best????

supporting City is the way!!!

Both interesting to read. I used to be capable of this sort of thing when I was doing my Politics degree but it's all gone now, two years out in the working world doing mind-numbing office chores as dragged it out of me. It's a real shame as I know deep down I feel respect for Benazir Bhutto but I can't speak about her with any sort of conviction. I did some work experience at the House of Commons once and the PPS I was working with shared an office with another PPS who worked for the chairman of an international relations select committee who was having a meeting that day with Benazir Bhutto.

When I hear about this sort of thing happening, I realise this is what I am interested in and wonder how I have managed to get stuck in a dead-end office job doing nothing all day.

I'm just a grain of sand on a beach in terms of how many people this will affect in one way or another but it frustrates me when someone who has tried to make a difference dies and people just say she had it coming. I'm not even saying she was fighting a good fight but at least she had the courage to try and achieve what she wanted in such difficult circumstances.

Imagine How the World would be if there were no people willing to fight what they believed for.

The Gandhi's,The Mandela's,The Bhutto's,The Martin Luther Kings,The Manderic's.

They all have a sense of doing some good for the world,in what THEY beleve in, but still others think they are cvnts...
