Mack Posted 2 January 2008 Posted 2 January 2008 I'm with many of you that so far the Mandaric era has not been so great, but by god all these threads on here tearing into individual players / staff etc are of no hope to the situation whatsoever. The problems with our club run deep, and began so many Managers / Signings / Owners ago that I doubt there are many fans or club employees that could point an exact finger on quite where the downturn began. So many mistakes and bad decisions, wrong signings, mistakes with Managerial and coaching appointments.. the list is as long as you arm, but to continue to attack the current players / Manager / Owner is just non productive. There is no doubt that Mandaric is not here to sit around and watch us stagnate and go backwards, in addition Holloway is a positive and ambitious young Manager that also wants to gain success and enhance his career with us. Serious weeding of our squad needs to take place, and no doubt quite a few players will come and go, feathers will be ruffled, decisions will be made and changes will take place. Some wont please all fans, but try and remember that the bottom line is that Mandaric and Holloway want the same as we do, even if it maybe for differing motives. IF we can build a a very handy team and usefull motivated squad by the start of the 08-09 season and stave of relegation in the remainder of this season then that will be a decent years work as far as I'm concerned. The things that are wrong within our club have taken deep root, Mandaric made things worse with the Allen debacle. Hopefull Holloway can put right the majority of the wrongs and we can all look on and up next season.

If you haven't bothered going to the games this season and you still moan then you're fair game but a lot of people came back disappointed from QPR yesterday. That's not intended as a dig at people who don't attend games - we've all had our reasons at one point or another - but when our fans have been to places like QPR, Burnley and Plymouth over the last few years and seen performances as poor as the team have put in, you understand why people vent their frustrations on here. It's the nature of internet messageboards anyway - there's not one for any club where the majority of people will hold their hands up to a poor performance and say there's always next week. Everyone reacts to the last game. As for the bit in bold, it's attitudes like this that irritate me. Even when fans are negative, it's only an expression of frustration through sheer passion and desire for the club - which is what we want reflected on the pitch, not that they can just turn up each week and they're guaranteed to get enough points to stay up this season.

The nature of the forum is to be reactive and reflective to current happenings...... most of which are fairly pants in terms of table position and general results, thus triggering the topical negativity. I however haven't had any real faith in any of the managers under Mandaric's reign until now. Holloway is clearing out the crap. This is slow, costly and can damage team spirit and manager player relations and confidence and he must be careful while doing it hence some with the remote possibility of a promising future going out on loan only. Holloway, is also publicly talking up the same narratives which many FT members have been ranting on about in various threads and forums since the summer. He may not be the canniest bloke in the business dept, in fact he's more Dixons than IBM, I do however think he's an honest man with a bit of front but not propped up by a pile of crap underneath. I think he will deliver at this football club (not chicken - before someone annoys me prolifically I'll get in there first) I hope Mandaric is patient with him as I bet you he's still eying the playoffs and he's not in with a shout of getting a promotion challenging team together this season. Nice post Mack.....(I bet you weren't at QPR game though)......Good things are happening at this club, just slowly, thats all.

I've been to every home game this season and S****horpe away, I've seen my fair share of tedious, uninspiring crap football and I've done plenty of moaning on here as well. I agree with you that is what messageboards are for, but Christ almighty some people do go overboard.

I expect fans of forest, leeds and in the past Villa and man city said there was no way they would be relegated. I would say at the moment the possibility of relegation as as high as 50/50. Unlike previous seasons there are no obvious very poor teams who have occupied the bottom 1 or 2 places. As for us as a team we are simply terrible. We do not play as a team and our levels of consistency fluctuate not only from game to game but from half to half. Most importantly we simply can't score. The new signings and we probably need another 4 or 5 at least have to be able to contribute immediately; we cannot afford more players for the future. If that happens then I think you may be right but it looks at the moment like our hardes ever battle not to drop into the league 1. As for fans being dejected it is hardly surprising is it? Chuck in relegation, la manga, administration, management merry go rounds, players of limited ability earning gross wages and a level of performance consistent only in its complete direness and you have all the ingredients for disgruntled fans. What makes this season worse is that we as fans were given some hope by a new owner and for the first time in years the promise and if we are honest delivery of a substantial amount of investment in the playing squad. the loss (temporary or not) of Fulop is only symptomatic of all of this as it is apparent to all that he is the only premier league quality player we have had this season therefore his departure is harder totake than say that of Hammond or Fryatt or Kisnorbo.
Joe. Posted 2 January 2008 Posted 2 January 2008 I don't think we'll go down. Whether it'll go as close as last season I don't know, and I hope not. The feeling going into April thinking there was really a chance that we might go down is not one I'd like to experience again. With some more new faces in we'll be fine I think (when I say fine I mean safe). If the midfield sorts itself out and the defence can tighten up and stop making silly mistakes then there's no doubts for me we'll go down, even if we are playing shite. It's going to be another disappointing season certainly but I can't see us finishing any lower than 18th.

We didn't expect to be in a relegation battle last season let alone this season. It's crazy. I looked at a fixtures/results page last night and we've won four league games 2-0 since the infamous Watford game. Everything else has been a draw or defeat. Yesterday was one of those games where it all came together - Fulop has gone, we conceded three goals we're not really used to conceding this season, a team like QPR who have spent no more than us looked so much better going forward, we had two defenders in midfield, a blatantly unfit and out-of-form player was subbed in the first half... the list is endless. There was just so much wrong.

Sorry, fed up now and me sounding off might not be helping the club but it's making me feel better. Seeing as I don't lose my wrag, with the playing staf at least, very often, I think I'm entitled to an outburst every not and again. I know it's early days as far as the transfer window is concerned but instead of having our problem areas addressed we have Barry Hayles.

It cannot be put at the door of fans on foxestalk, and lies firmly with the culture at this club, within the management and workers, and the playing staff. Holloway is not the man to fix this problem.....he is out of his depth....we would have seen improvement in the team spirit by now. It worries me that this manager's best attributes of tub thumping aint going to work. Perhaps his sort of behaviour and management was always suited to the smaller "underdog" clubs he has managed previously, although he left both clubs worse off than when he joined them......that is a fact!!

I thought we would end up around 10th before the season started...I now believe in all honesty that we will be locked into a relegation battle, just look at the stats of the last few seasons and you will see we are performing as badly. The upside to those stats is that we didn't get relegated, but I don't see that happening again. Ollie had his 'bounce' as new manager but hasn't really impressed me so far, his first two signings are distinctly uninspiring and the loser attitude is still pervasive throughout the squad. Meanwhile we are looking at signing a player with 'potential' whereas we desperately need players of proven quality. The minute someone actually thinks of something to be positive about then let me know.

He left them on 6th February when they were 12th, after getting them promoted from League One and finishing 11th in their first season. Holloway join Plymouth on 28th June 2006 after they finished 14th in the Championship, in his first season they finished 11th and when he left on 21st november 2007 when they were 8th. Bellend Sebastian Posted 3 January 2008 Posted 3 January 2008 I think City are more mediocre than dreadful. How often are we actually completely outclassed? Not that often - conceding 3 on Tuesday was disappointing, but it doesn't happen that often, does it? I'd be more worried about relegation if we were losing 3 or 4 nil each week. We've drawn so many games in the last few seasons it isn't funny, and to my simple brain if we'd scored 1 extra goal in those games we'd have won them. Bellend's point, you ask? That we're not that far off being a side that could pick up a lot more points - not necessarily one challenging for automatic promotion, but not one looking over its shoulder at the prospect of relegation. I'm probably getting blase about relegation but we we've been here before in the last two seasons and it worked out fine, and there were plenty of our own fans writing us off long before the end of the season (myself included when Levein was in charge, if I'm honest). Although we still need to sign some more players, we have just signed a proven Championship goalscorer for a not inconsiderable sum of money, so I don't think I'm being a complete mental by thinking that the chances of our position improving over the next month or two are pretty good. I'm more bored by Leicester City these days than worried about it.
