Alexikokopops Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 I've got Josh Freese hair, yes I do. They're giving it to anyone and that means you...
Cat Burger Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 I've got Josh Freese hair, yes I do. So you've gone for that gay virgin look then?
Libertine Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 Personally I'd go for either Jimmy Chamberlain or John Bonham Jimmy and Grohl are my favourites but for the best... I'd probably go for Bonham.
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 5 January 2008 Posted 5 January 2008 I have three nominations: Buddy Rich Animal (aka Frank Oz) Keith Moon I'd say probably some Jazz drummer OR someone who can play African Drums... very difficult
Finchy Posted 5 January 2008 Posted 5 January 2008 Steve White, class drummer. Without a doubt the best British drummer around.
shen Posted 5 January 2008 Posted 5 January 2008 Gavin Harrison Danny Carey Ginger Baker Billy Cobham Josh Freese Mike Portnoy That's my list of best drummers I know of... In my biased opinion I think Carey edges it. His drumming is so complex yet so melodic and immaculate. Brilliant.
Smiffy Posted 5 January 2008 Posted 5 January 2008 Bonham and Grohl are both great calls but I'd have to go with Lars Ulrich...even if he is a bit of a tit!
shen Posted 5 January 2008 Posted 5 January 2008 Bonham and Grohl are both great calls but I'd have to go with Lars Ulrich...even if he is a bit of a tit! Hmmm, I remember watching a docu on Metallica and how the mixers and sound engineers were cursing over Ulrich. They have worked hours on end to correct his drumming mistakes on Metallicas albums. When I heard them live he was also horrible at keeping a steady beat... but I guess he's good at entertaining!
Libertine Posted 6 January 2008 Posted 6 January 2008 I like Lars, but the drums on St. Anger are probably the most horrible I've ever heard. Not bad drumming, just awfully produced.
Smiffy Posted 6 January 2008 Posted 6 January 2008 I've seen them live once and Lars rocked as expected! But then anything good said about Metallica should automatically be assumed that their last 2 (maybe 3) albums are not included. Black album was the beginning of the end.
Finnegan Posted 7 January 2008 Posted 7 January 2008 They're giving it to anyone and that means you... So you've gone for that gay virgin look then? Well at least one person got it! Shame on Cat Burger.
stez Posted 7 January 2008 Posted 7 January 2008 Ginger Baker was right up there !! yep Reni yep and whoever said john bonham also charlie watts, mainly because he seems to hate playing them so much, but also because of the story i once heard about him (may or may not be true, but is a great legend); mick jagger was stropping around a hotel moaning about HIS drummer pissing him around, being late and such, outside watts' door, very loudly. hearing this charlie watts put on his best suit, made himself respectable, went up to jaggers hotel room, knocked on the door, punched him in the face and said "you're my f ucking singer"
AoWW Posted 7 January 2008 Posted 7 January 2008 ...also charlie watts, mainly because he seems to hate playing them so much, but also because of the story i once heard about him (may or may not be true, but is a great legend);mick jagger was stropping around a hotel moaning about HIS drummer pissing him around, being late and such, outside watts' door, very loudly. hearing this charlie watts put on his best suit, made himself respectable, went up to jaggers hotel room, knocked on the door, punched him in the face and said "you're my f ucking singer" Classic!
Deathside Posted 7 January 2008 Posted 7 January 2008 For the style of music I like I think you will be hard pressed to find anyone who comes near to Mick Harris (Best known for his work with Napalm Death) - Unfortunetly brillient drummer but a complete cóck
Trav Le Bleu Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 I know it's not exactly contemporary and already been mentioned, but it has to be Buddy Rich surely! Gene Krupa not bad either. The thing with most "bands" (by which I mean 4/5 piece rock/pop bands, rather than the BIG bands, which were more likes orchestras) is that they really don't give a drummer room for expression - big bands used to have (maybe still do... dunno any current ones!) great drum solos and let their drummer really let rip for minutes at a time. Fantastic! Maybe more contempory drummers such as Travis (Hey, nice name ) Barker could match that, but they'll never get the chance to prove it
Trav Le Bleu Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 What about slash (guns n roses) I'll reserve judgement until I've heard him
stez Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 I'll reserve judgement until I've heard him it's well known slash played drums on moby dick! check out everyone pissing off from the stage on 1.18 edit i actually prefer bonzo's montreux for sheer atmosphere
Trav Le Bleu Posted 12 January 2008 Posted 12 January 2008 Yah, and I've never heard any Moby Dick, so judgement is reserved
