davieG Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 by Bill Anderson There will be no let-up in Ian Holloway's search for new players this week, even though the Leicester City manager has landed another three in the last two days. Having had his hands tied when he arrived seven weeks ago, Holloway appears to be making up for lost time now that the transfer window has opened. The arrival of strikers Steve Howard and Barry Hayles last week, got the ball rolling followed by goalkeeper Ben Alnwick and Hungarian winger Zsolt Laczko. Yesterday, Holloway signed another Hungarian winger, Gabor Bori, on loan until the end of the season from MTK Budapest, and Aston Villa midfielder Isiah Osbourne's loan spell is close to being completed. Apart from those players, City are being constantly linked in speculation with a stream of others from all over the place. No wonder Holloway is relishing the task after having to wait for so long. He said: “It has been very frustrating but now we are getting things moving. “I have never worked so hard but we are getting there. The squad will be improved and will be better balanced in every position. That is the aim and I am looking forward to getting everything together and settled down in time. “As I have said before, one of the biggest tasks was to try to snap the squad out of the air of negativity - and good, strong characters coming in should help. “In Steve Howard, I have got who I believe to be the best centre-forward in the division, and now we have got the ammunition for him and the other strikers with the new wingers. “I am very optimistic about things. That is the way I am and I have already seen positive signs. Now we have to turn all of this into results as quickly as possible.†City are still working on the chance of signing midfielder Graham Kavanagh from Sunderland with Watford also believed to be interested. Bulgarian midfielder Radostin Kishishev is set to return to City when his loan at Leeds expires on January 23. Kishishev has made five starts and two appearances as a substitute for the League One club. Leeds manager Dennis Wise said: “I brought in Kish because I was struggling, and Kish will go back on the 23rd. He's okay about that.â€
Ric Flair Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 Steve Howard the best centre forward in the division? I must say, i'd be hard pushed to find a player whose better in the air than Howard in this division. His technique for his volley that hit the post at QPR and the way he holds the ball up, shows he's got a fair bit of technique as well. This Zsolt lad is meant to be a mean crosser as well, so Saturday is already looking a bit more chipper.
Durnerz Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 I'm so excited..........and I just can't hide it......
Joe. Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 Ollie's doing what he said he was going to do and hopefully this has a real impact on the rest of our season. I'm excited about these two Hungarians and I'm sure Howard's relishing the prospect of playing with them both. Wouldn't like to tempt fate but Saturday's looking a lot more hopeful I think. As for Osbourne, can't say I've seen him play too much. It's another midfielder I suppose which we need, and he does have some Premiership experience which is nice. Can't say I was impressed at all though when we played Villa earlier in the season.

You could say the same with Curtis Davies, no doubts about his quality though. I'd love Osbourne here personally.
Jonezy Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 Howard best striker in the Championship? I believe there is a guy called Kevin Phillips playin for some Birmingham club, who will claim that title.... Phillips is 34 by the way, just for all of you saying a 35 year Hayles is over the top... We lost Johnson to Leeds, and the Kavanagh deal looks like not materialising, so we still need a centre mid, a winger and maybe a leftback as I see it. I feel excited again. Still I did so in the summer too, but Ollie actually identified our problems, and 2 wingers and a proper targetman already signed up must be a step in the right direction for once.
dpjfox Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 I think 2 more max.. Aleft back (probably Capaldi)and central midfielder ( prefers Norris but Osbourne could be short term solution until Plymouth drop their price) failing that Kav or Pecnik
Foxhateram Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 Sounds good, he has identified the weakneses and is by the looks ofm things fixing them. Finally some signings that have some sort of logic to them are being made. Now all we need is an improved attacking CM (Osbourne if it goes through) a LB, a RB and a new CB to replace a struggling mcauley and an out of pace N'Gotty. It is looking much better, and hopefully these new guys and anyone else we bring in can gel quickly, and we can move away from the dreaded drop zone. im optimistic (ish) but im still wary of getting to excited, weve seen this all before. im holding my judgement on these new players until iv seen them play in a city shirt 4-5 times.

Fat Ron Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 One thing concerns me... Why all loan deals?? I like the idea if all deals have an option to make the move permanant but I doubt very much that would exist in deals for Alnwick & Osbourne.

True, hopefully ollie has a list of players he knows are going out of contract in the summer and thats why he hasnt pushed for more permanant recruits.

When sunderland go down (fingers crossed) the money they want for Fulop stands a good chance of going down also.

The term was 'Centre Forward' which is different to a 'striker' in this day and age. here aren't many about like Howard that can lead the line as well as he can. Dave mentioned Beattie, who i'd forgotten about and there's Rasiak, but Howard is up there with the best of them in this league. When sunderland go down (fingers crossed) the money they want for Fulop stands a good chance of going down also. But I doubt Gordon would stay, so they'd probably keep him anyway.

Raj Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 I've been VERY negative and sceptical about City recently. However atleast Ollie knows we have problems and is trying to address them He knows where we need quality and isnt trying to hide the fact. I REALLY hope he can give us fans SOMETHING of a glimmer of hope on Saturday as what the new signings will be able to achieve once they 'gel'
Jon the Hat Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 http://www.villatalk.com/index.php?name=PN...&highlight= Fezzler, have you ever thought of a career in the diplomatic service?
Fez of Mahrez Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 Fezzler, have you ever thought of a career in the diplomatic service? They seem friendly chaps!
Babylon Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 They seem friendly chaps! That's what I thought!!! Usually you get at least one anti leicester comment.
Daggers Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 Usually you get at least one anti leicester comment. I reckon Fez got them all in to start with He's right - we are an utter shambles.
MikeyT Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 Beattie imo.James obviously. Agree with you there. Although im very happy that Howard is here, i think James Beattie is the best striker in this division, along with Philips and Howard! They are definitely the top 3 strikers in this league! I've never seen Osbourne play, but he looks like he would be a good acquisition, based on things i have read about him. Read somewhere that he is a similar type of player to Patrick Viera. Can only be good!
Fez of Mahrez Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 I spoke too soon... we are "Lie-chester". That reply is for you Babs.
