Babylon Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 That reply is for you Babs. What have I lied about!!
Fez of Mahrez Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 What have I lied about!! No, my reply to their reply you big dope.
Jon the Hat Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 I spoke too soon... we are "Lie-chester". I took that as a reference to the way Americans say Leicester. You usually hear it on the tube... "hey, is this the train to Lie-chester Square??"
Fez of Mahrez Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 I took that as a reference to the way Americans say Leicester. You usually hear it on the tube... "hey, is this the train to Lie-chester Square??" That's a possibility. I hope I haven't inadvertently caused a diplomatic incident.
Manwell Pablo Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 I took that as a reference to the way Americans say Leicester. You usually hear it on the tube... "hey, is this the train to Lie-chester Square??" I wouldn't know, they only get as far as "hey is this the..." before I hit them. Forking Yanks
Fox in a Box Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 Steve Howard the best centre forward in the division? I must say, i'd be hard pushed to find a player whose better in the air than Howard in this division. His technique for his volley that hit the post at QPR and the way he holds the ball up, shows he's got a fair bit of technique as well. This Zsolt lad is meant to be a mean crosser as well, so Saturday is already looking a bit more chipper. I have been banging on about howard as the best thing here for years (4) to be precise. yes the best fwd we have signed for a while too.... Phil Gee or Davidson anyone.
Fox in a Box Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 They seem friendly chaps! really a walk in the park near villa then eh....
Tommy G Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 You could say the same with Curtis Davies, no doubts about his quality though. I'd love Osbourne here personally. exactly. He would be a very good signing for sure
Fox in a Box Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 Nejc Pecnik and Osbourne would be 2 worthy additions, do they play left back?
colbo68 Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 by Bill Anderson There will be no let-up in Ian Holloway's search for new players this week, even though the Leicester City manager has landed another three in the last two days. Having had his hands tied when he arrived seven weeks ago, Holloway appears to be making up for lost time now that the transfer window has opened. The arrival of strikers Steve Howard and Barry Hayles last week, got the ball rolling followed by goalkeeper Ben Alnwick and Hungarian winger Zsolt Laczko. Yesterday, Holloway signed another Hungarian winger, Gabor Bori, on loan until the end of the season from MTK Budapest, and Aston Villa midfielder Isiah Osbourne's loan spell is close to being completed. Apart from those players, City are being constantly linked in speculation with a stream of others from all over the place. No wonder Holloway is relishing the task after having to wait for so long. He said: “It has been very frustrating but now we are getting things moving. “I have never worked so hard but we are getting there. The squad will be improved and will be better balanced in every position. That is the aim and I am looking forward to getting everything together and settled down in time. “As I have said before, one of the biggest tasks was to try to snap the squad out of the air of negativity - and good, strong characters coming in should help. “In Steve Howard, I have got who I believe to be the best centre-forward in the division, and now we have got the ammunition for him and the other strikers with the new wingers. “I am very optimistic about things. That is the way I am and I have already seen positive signs. Now we have to turn all of this into results as quickly as possible.†City are still working on the chance of signing midfielder Graham Kavanagh from Sunderland with Watford also believed to be interested. Bulgarian midfielder Radostin Kishishev is set to return to City when his loan at Leeds expires on January 23. Kishishev has made five starts and two appearances as a substitute for the League One club. Leeds manager Dennis Wise said: “I brought in Kish because I was struggling, and Kish will go back on the 23rd. He's okay about that.†Thanks for the information. However, regarding Steve Howard being the best striker in the division - I guess time will tell- in my book this accolade currently goes to Kevin Phillips even given his advancing years. However, I'm very optimistic that Howard will give us goals given the right ammo
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 Beattie imo.James obviously. Ricardo Fuller, James Beattie, Kevin Phillips, Marlon King and maybe Freddy Eastwood (?) are possibly better all-round strikers than Howard; though I do rate Howard highly
Bert Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 Looks set to be happening today then, so be aware around 4pm. Mixed reaction from the villa fans - guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Ric Flair Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 Ricardo Fuller, James Beattie, Kevin Phillips, Marlon King and maybe Freddy Eastwood (?) are possibly better all-round strikers than Howard; though I do rate Howard highly Again, people are getting confused. Holloway used the term 'centre forward' that term has always been used to describe the old fashioned 'big' striker that leads the line in the mould of Alan Shearer, Jan Koller, etc. But then again, perhaps Holloway does think Howards the best striker in the league, but i'm sure he means the best who can lead the line and win aerial battles, which Beattie is about the only player who could rival Howard to that in this league IMO.
Babylon Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 Again, people are getting confused. Also people are forgetting the Holloway is quite clearly insane.
Simi Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 1 month? I've got no doubt that he's a good player but 1 month seems a bit pointless. By the time he's got settled in we'll be having to change things around again and find a new pairing in midfield. Just seems very short to me really.
Thracian Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 The club is getting more and more like the rent-a-crowd circus I expected when MM arrived. In 50 years I fully expect that Saturday will be the first time I'll not be able to recognise more than half of the side. I just hope this latest reshuffle gets justified by turning up some aces? Cos if it doesn't I think sympathy will be in short supply. At least that was the message I was getting at the ground last night. Came as quite a shock really.

I think it's pretty clear the most important decision of the season was something Mandaric got horribly, horribly wrong and ever since then we've been digging a bigger and bigger hole for ourselves.
Staf Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 Really pleased to see that Osbourne is close to signing. I think it will be good if we can get Kavanagh as well then we will have cover in the centre of midfield
Bryn Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 Really average player, will never make it at the top level. Although maybe first team football and confidence may help him? I'm really un-impressed with what I've seen of him thus far though. Ouch.
WetFlannel Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 Howard best striker in the Championship? I believe there is a guy called Kevin Phillips playin for some Birmingham club, who will claim that title.... Phillips is 34 by the way, just for all of you saying a 35 year Hayles is over the top...We lost Johnson to Leeds, and the Kavanagh deal looks like not materialising, so we still need a centre mid, a winger and maybe a leftback as I see it.I feel excited again. Still I did so in the summer too, but Ollie actually identified our problems, and 2 wingers and a proper targetman already signed up must be a step in the right direction for once. Thank you for backing me up saying age doesn't matter. It seems most people write a player off if they're over thirty. Anyway, I'm feeling evry optimistic with these new signings in place now, and Osbourne will only benefit the team. Lee Martin would also be a good addition, and then I think we could make a real push up the table. Maybe a centre mid would be nice, but I think were looking strong enough to get out of the mess we are in
Boycie Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 I feel that we need a new full back and thats it, when the players find their form i think that we will be fine.
reynard Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 Hope he is still looking because we could really use a left back, centre half and 2 central midfielders even on top of those we have just signed. Still need to clear some out though and there doesn't seem to be much happening there.
Finn Claw Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 So far so good, we have been crying out for a midfield all season. With the hugarians hopefully it means we can blood Gradel a bit give him 20 mins here are there without expecting too much from him. A central mid (OSbourne) and perhaps a left back We could do with off-loading a load of players hopefully come 31st Jan and the panic buying and someone will bid for the dross, though i doubt it
Thracian Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 I think it's pretty clear the most important decision of the season was something Mandaric got horribly, horribly wrong and ever since then we've been digging a bigger and bigger hole for ourselves. Don't know why we're always at loggerheads. You're a good old boy really and know your football in the main.
MPH Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 That's a possibility. I hope I haven't inadvertently caused a diplomatic incident. *sigh* you were doing so well.....
