According to my optimistic predictions. In a month's time if we have won 4 and drawn 1 of the previous 5 games, so win 4 draw 1 of the next 5 matches, we will be in 12th place and only 6 points off the play offs. Yes with 13 points out of the next 15 we will only be 6 points off the play offs. Its possible, our next fixtures on paper are easy,

Palace and Plymouth at home, we should start winning all home games now

Norwich and Blackpool away, they are down there near relegation zone with us

Watford away, the only tricky one although their home form is poor

Come on Leicester! Just win 4 of the next 5 games and we have a great chance!

If we win all of the next 5 games we should only be 4 points off the play offs.

Thats all it takes a 6 game winning run and we are right back in it.

We are not out of it yet and im being serious.

On the other hand we could lose 4 out of the next 5 then lose more and end up relegated.

Nice one Kilworth and gotta love your optimism (6 points short? NOT IN 2 GAMES TIME! :D ) But personally I'd still be happy with 21st this season, though from yesterday's evidence a top half of the table finish doesn't seem out of the question.

Admittedly I am posting this on the evidence of yesterdays performance, not the Southampton or QPR ones. Before going into the Coventry game the team had managed 27points from 26 games. As I stated in my look to cov at home thread we have to judge the team Holloway builds from yesterdays game. Now I know everyone points to Palace under Dowies an ugly **** and Sunderland under Keane as sides who have great 2nd half of the seasons and go up. I am not suggesting that going up will be the best thing for the club, but it would not hurt financially.

However a performance like yesterdays has made my mind wander to what if we could do that every week? I am optimistic by nature and may need to be put back in check! I am expecting to go to Naach and get 3 points if we can field the same side or better next satdi. No doubt in my mind at all!

I would also say the thing everyone says that every team in this division can beat another on their day. All I can think is that our day will come much more often in the 2nd half of the season than it did in the 1st half :scarf:

Lets look at the facts! We are 11 points off of the playoffs with 19 games to go. Total of 57 points up for grabs. We can get a total of 87 points. Last season Southampton finished 6th with 75 points 2006/2007 final standings (select tab 2006/2007).

Where will we drop the 12 points?

So how many points will we get from the remaining fixtures?

A Norwich WIN

H Palace DRAW they are in good form!

A Blackpool WIN

H Bittermouth :giggle: WIN will they have 11 to play us?

A Watford DRAW they are poor at home

H Norwich WIN

A Kovscum WIN Certainly if today is anything to go by

A Cardiff WIN they have not been great, neither had we tho

H Preston WIN they are worse than we were

H Bristol C WIN

A Southampton Lose Good side, we never do well against them

A W B A Lose Good side, and we will drop points somewhere

H Hull WIN Although they are improving I expect to beat them

H Scunny Utd WIN they are a poor side

A Sheff Utd DRAW Who knows what you get with them

H Colchester WIN they are a poor side too

A Barnsley WIN we always beat them, even when we were awful

H Sheff Wed WIN They were awful when we played them last but have improved, so have we though

A Stoke DRAW tough place to go, on their day they are as good as any.

Total 43 points from 19

Final Total 73

Prediction 8th however will be close if we could reach playoffs IMO

Love your attitude, maths is a bit tight though mate, I hope you are right.

I've just had a go on the bbc predictor, predicting every side's results for the rest of the season. I've got us finishing 11th, which I'd personally be delighted with. West Brom and Bristol City take the automatic spots. Bristol City surprised me as I expected Crystal Palace to nick it, but I guess it comes down to who has to play who next. 3rd to 6th are Stoke, Charlton, Palace and Watford. 7th to 12th goes Cardiff, Sheff Utd, QPR, Ipswich, Leicester and Wolves. 13th to 17th are Hull, Burnley, Southampton, Plymouth and Norwich. 18th to 21st are Coventry, Barnsley, Blackpool and Wednesday, with Preston, Scunny and Colchester dropping to League One. How much easier would it have been if I knew how to screenie! Anyway, have a go see what you come up with, realisticaly, be interested to see if anyone gets us in the play offs. And Kilworth Fox, I'm loving the optimism! Finally feels like good times might be upon us.

Kilworth, you're a great guy who talks a whole lot of sense on many occasions but what you're suggesting isn't realistic and, even if it's possible, we can do without the "expectations".

We haven't even seen this team play away yet and there are so many potential pitfalls anyway.

a) Opposition countering our approach once they know how we prefer to play.

b) The very notion of winning so many away games.

c) Injury to key players.

d) Points dropped simply through having a bad day.

e) Points lost by the opposition excelling themselves.

f) Points lost to the pressure of the situation IF we start to challenge.

g) Referees ruining all our plans like at Ipswich.

I'm shall do no more than savour what happened yesterday and look forward with renewed enthusiasm to what comes next.

It's an old but wise adage...concentrate on the next game and on doing your very best in that.

In fact I'm a big believer in playing things down before matches and in never setting points targets or declaring our intentions.

It only means added pressure you can do without. I like all the pressure to be on opponents.

I did the BBC predictor thing been ridiculously optimistic and we only managed 10th!

It's way to unrealistic this season and it would be a complete disaster if we were actually to go up. Possibly even more embarrassing than what's happening to our Sheepish friends.

I said at the start of the season that top half was realistic, I suppose that could still happen, for me that would turn out to be a good season for us and leave us plenty to build on.

If we get promoted this season, we'll do a Derby.

Build a team for the back end of this season, then push on next season and make a real go of it.

I think you're right on the promotion being a disaster point. Far, far too soon. It won't happen anyway of course. We finished 11th when I had a crack on the BBC predictor, and if I'm honest I was letting heart rule head. I wold genuinely be happy staying up, albeit comfortably, and getting to pre season which is when I will be excited to see Ollie build a promotion challenging side.

Thats interesting, i also did it, and i ended up with leicester on 72 points!!! It was very ambitious, but i am an optimist after all!!!

I don't think we'll make the play-offs this season and I think it'd be best if we didn't, especially if failure has a detrimental effect on next season! I'm not going to dampen the optimism though. You've got to aim high and then if you fall short you'll still have done alright. You have to dream as a supporter that the almost impossible may become true!

You are being too generous to the good teams. There is no way 73 points would be 9 points off the play-offs. However, there is no way we'll get 73 points!

I love Leicester fans!!

1 good performance and we think we are a play off team and thinking of Wembley!!

If we lose to Norwich next sat we will be back to being a bunch of miserable bastards for a week!!!

Brilliant performance yday but we need 5-6 of these in a row for anything worthwhile!

Up the City!!!

Not at all from what I saw on Monday. As the result proved :ermm:;)

I am glad that I was not as slated as I thought after Kov but we have to face facts!!!!!!! We have picked up 7 points out of 9 games once playing a rival in their cup final, and twice playing in form teams ending one run we have conceded a total of zero goals and scored 3! We have done well in the 3 games, some may say we have been fortunate, I say that's bollocks as you make your own fortune in life and football. Hayles was in the right place at the right time and Norwich could not score against our defence and we hammered Kov.

The playoffs are a small possibility and we have started the right way to prove Olly's ambitions a reality. :appl:

10 points off playoffs.

Posted
And only 7 from relegation!!!! :D:unsure:

We were in the relegation zone so we have been 7 points or more better than other teams who were around us! Glass half full

Or a win against a Cov team that are plummeting faster than gravity, a point from Norwich where we were seemingly lucky not to be 3/4 down at half-time and a win with a fortuitous last minute shinner where we created very little. I would say our luck's changed rather than we've suddenly become a promotion chasing team.

Beware class is permanent luck changes with the wind.

No such thing as luck!

Coventry were out outclasses plummeting or not, we beat them, therefore we are better than a side in bad form.

Norwich did not score, and we have now the 2nd best defence in the leauge, not luck

We had the ball in Palace's area in the 89th minute and we scored, before the attitude was more likely to have been defensive and we would have had the ball in our area (certainly under Megson) and we would usually have conceded. Which I remember led to a thread remembering when we last scored a late winner.

Ollie obviously doesn't agree with you as he's been bemoaning our bad luck for weeks and admitted we were lucky to get a point from Norwich.

Playoffs?

You're having a laugh. Mid-table would be a more realistic target, anything higher than that would be a bonus for me.
