davieG Posted 27 January 2008 Posted 27 January 2008 Ok here's the idea we select a number of 'controversial' issues with two volunteers to lead the for and against arguments; at the end of each debate a poll is taken to see what the overall view is. Process: Nominate Issues Vote on the most popular one to be discussed Identify a proposer/seconder for/against each proposal They send me their statements/arguments I create a thread with these in which is then opened up for people to respond After a suitable period the discussion is closed and a voting thread opened. Suggestions for debating: University education should be fully funded by the state Prostitution should be a legal occupation Marijuana should be made legal You should pass some form of IQ test before being allowed to vote at local and national election Organised religion is flawed 'Cosmetic' surgery should be banned Marriage Is An Outdated, Outmoded And Impractical Idea Let me know if you're interested in being a proposer/seconder for/against and what subject you'd like to get involved in. Feel free to suggest other subjects. If you got any thoughts on making this run better post them as well.
Hullfox Posted 27 January 2008 Posted 27 January 2008 A very very good idea davie. However, anyone commenting on people's views must not allow it to fall into personal abuse. And yes, I know that includes me.
Tommy G Posted 27 January 2008 Posted 27 January 2008 I love areguments normally, but this could just get out of hand and personal? Especially if Masterfox is involved..
davieG Posted 27 January 2008 Author Posted 27 January 2008 I love areguments normally, but this could just get out of hand and personal? Especially if Masterfox is involved.. I don't see why, there already plenty of topics being discussed/polled without any significant problems. It's just that they have the vote before the debate has concluded.
Sparky Posted 27 January 2008 Posted 27 January 2008 sounds good to me bit like question time , davieg your David Dimbleby
Hullfox Posted 27 January 2008 Posted 27 January 2008 sounds good to me bit like question time , davieg your David Dimbleby Actually, a question time format could be good too with a panel allowed acouple of chances at putting across their thoughts, based upon their views and also what the others say. As long as Alex James doesn't make an appearance.

Benji Posted 27 January 2008 Posted 27 January 2008 Excellent idea!! So long as it's well Mod-ed will be very interesting indeed (even if some on here will not take notice of both sides of every story )
Nationwider Posted 27 January 2008 Posted 27 January 2008 Aye, it sounds like a good idea davieG. As you suggest, the format needs to be pretty rigid. In 5Live Fighting Talk fashion, I'd love to have a go at defending the indefensible....
Finnegan Posted 27 January 2008 Posted 27 January 2008 Where do I sign up to win this beast*? *sigh. Yes. Yes. I know. Completely the wrong attitude, yadda yadda.

Nationwider Posted 27 January 2008 Posted 27 January 2008 Did you hear Jim Jeffries on Saturday? Not yet, but I've got the Podcast thingy to listen to in the car this week.
Hullfox Posted 28 January 2008 Posted 28 January 2008 Not yet, but I've got the Podcast thingy to listen to in the car this week. Two moments of pure genius. Enjoy.
danny. Posted 28 January 2008 Posted 28 January 2008 University education should be fully funded by the state - yes Prostitution should be a legal occupation - yes Marijuana should be made legal - yes You should pass some form of IQ test before being allowed to vote at local and national election - yes Organised religion is flawed - mostly 'Cosmetic' surgery should be banned - no Marriage Is An Outdated, Outmoded And Impractical Idea - no Job done.
Zingari Posted 28 January 2008 Posted 28 January 2008 Job done. the one about organised religion could lead to the title of best "mass debator"
davieG Posted 28 January 2008 Author Posted 28 January 2008 I'm guessing it's a NO then unless anyone wants to debate the issue.
Daggers Posted 28 January 2008 Posted 28 January 2008 Suggestions for debating: You should pass some form of IQ test before being allowed to register and post on FoxesTalkLet me know if you're interested in being a proposer/seconder for/against and what subject you'd like to get involved in. The only ones going to argue against that have bits of grass hanging from their lower lip.
davieG Posted 28 January 2008 Author Posted 28 January 2008 The only ones going to argue against that have bits of grass hanging from their lower lip. Fuuny you should say that, have you been eavesdropping around my house?
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 29 January 2008 Posted 29 January 2008 This must be a serious thread no "Mass debateing" jokes i am surprised
Nationwider Posted 29 January 2008 Posted 29 January 2008 I'd be up for having a go, dG. Actually, having a go could be a potential topic for debate?
