You'd never find out who they were on about cos it cost about £2 a minute to ring. And we never signed any "international aces". Then watching the videprinter with all the transfer deadline deals on Ceefax. Leicester In J Watts - Sheffield Wednesday (pretty steady defender, that'll do) M Izzet - Chelsea, loan (who the f**k is he?! Geo V Posted 30 January 2008 Posted 30 January 2008 I used to also love Ceefax for the latest scores, flicking onto the text page whilst mum was watching Dallas and going mental and threatening to grass me up to my dad The Merc used to be the one regarding transfer news for me as back in the day we were low profile and I used top moan at not seeing any City goals on TV, deals in the national press or transfer updates on Ceefax. We seem to have gone the opposite way these days with non-stop national coverage, even the shite news.

These days some twat can change a Wikipedia page and within minutes half of Leicester is trying to get on another club's messageboard finding out about some kid on loan. Everyone's got an opinion before the bloke even sets foot in your own stadium. Within two or three games he's either shit or amazing. So to summarise - the internet: rubbish.

Actually coming to think about the MON season we got promoted, for some players i didn't realise we actually had signed someone until i got to the ground or near leicester. I was only young but word didnt spread much.

One of my best mates, who i'd say knows his stuff about Leicester. Season ticket for many years and all that. Well Patrick Gerrbrand had been with us for about 3 months, had played a few games, but it hadn't registered with my mate that he existed. In fact it took a 60 yard through ball to Iain Hume to bang one in against the Shaggers for him to ask who and where have we had that defender from? after i'd mentioned his name later on. Mind boggling.

However i remember sitting there on the sofa just watching it all day to see if wed signed anyone, I used to get really excted and shout to my dad DAD DAD we have signed someone, hed come up and look. usually replying with "Never heard of him, now dont shout me again unless there is a big signing made" ! Qaulity days!!

On an aside digital teletext > analog teletext. It was really annoying when it would skip forward before you had read the whole page and if you used hold it would skip forward two pages and you'd have to wait eight pages to get back to the bit that you had missed. Grr.

He turned out to be really good. No one around me knew of him either, can't have completed the transfer long before the game. Was it his debut? Or were we all just a bit slow back then>?

It was indeed his debut, he'd signed late the night before but somehow we had clearance for him to play. On the way down to the game I heard he'd signed, but I thought it was for Wimbledon and not us!!!
