Head Honcho Posted 21 February 2008 Posted 21 February 2008 Doh! http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/7256961.stm Ken Livingstone whatta guy
Bryn Posted 21 February 2008 Posted 21 February 2008 Linford Christie, Kelly Holmes, Sir Trevor McDonald, Amara Khan.... no white people involved in these olympics then? [/controversial White tabloid reader kneejerk reaction]
Webbo Posted 21 February 2008 Posted 21 February 2008 I don't see why any politician should have a say in this. Why can't the BOA decide who carries the torch?
Thracian Posted 21 February 2008 Posted 21 February 2008 Doh!http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/7256961.stm Ken Livingstone whatta guy And both are good reasons why I'll have no interest in the Olympics whatsoever.
Head Honcho Posted 21 February 2008 Author Posted 21 February 2008 And both are good reasons why I'll have no interest in the Olympics whatsoever. It just smacks of hypocrisy. I expect to see Steve Cram, Sebastian Coe, Colin Jackson, Kelly Holmes, Darren Campbell, Roger Black and Liz McColgan condemn the decision in the same way they did when Dwain Chambers decided to make a comeback. Somehow I doubt they will
Rodders Posted 21 February 2008 Posted 21 February 2008 Amara Khan Who the hell's she? Serious question - google doesn't come up with anything.
Milky Posted 21 February 2008 Posted 21 February 2008 Christie didn't take drugs deliberately. He's a legend. His supposed "drug cheat" moment came at some pointless charity like run or something towards the end of his career. He had nothing to gain at all from it. Chambers did cheat, and has admitted as much.

An athlete is responsible for what enters their body(no quips please )-Just ask Alain Baxter!
Tommy G Posted 22 February 2008 Posted 22 February 2008 Linford Christie, Kelly Holmes, Sir Trevor McDonald, Amara Khan.... no white people involved in these olympics then? [/controversial White tabloid reader kneejerk reaction] I was thinking that actually...
Milky Posted 22 February 2008 Posted 22 February 2008 Is gullibility one of your strong points? An athlete is responsible for what enters their body(no quips please )-Just ask Alain Baxter! why would Linford take drugs at that stage of his career I've seen a programme on it, and with facts in hand i've form the opinion he's not guilty.
Daggers Posted 22 February 2008 Posted 22 February 2008 why would Linford take drugs at that stage of his career Good point. Why would a washed-up athelete with nothing left in his life except one last shot at proving something to himself and the atheletic community at large bother to take performance enhancing drugs?
Milky Posted 23 February 2008 Posted 23 February 2008 Good point. Why would a washed-up athelete with nothing left in his life except one last shot at proving something to himself and the atheletic community at large bother to take performance enhancing drugs? , pathetic comment. That's way, way over the top. He had nothing to prove to himself or the athletic community. Those olympic and world medals speak for themselves. In 1999, he was persuaded out of semi-retirement by his training group to compete in an indoor meet in Dortmund, Germany. But the routine doping test found traces of the banned substance nandrolone. Although the British Athletic Federation found him to be not guilty, the IAAF overruled and confirmed the suspension. He was found to have metabolites of nandrolone in his urine, which may have been accidentally introduced to his system by taking legal nutritional supplements. The IAAF rejected that explanation, and gave Christie a two-year ban from athletics, despite UK Athletics feeling that there was 'reasonable doubt whether the drug had been taken deliberately. The ban did not extend to coaching activities. Christie has always denied any wrongdoing. "If I took drugs there had to be a reason to take drugs. I had pretty much retired from the sport."
Head Honcho Posted 23 February 2008 Author Posted 23 February 2008 , pathetic comment. That's way, way over the top. He had nothing to prove to himself or the athletic community. Those olympic and world medals speak for themselves. It doesn't matter if he meant to do it or not he had illegal substances in his body. It's not rocket science.
Milky Posted 23 February 2008 Posted 23 February 2008 It doesn't matter if he meant to do it or not he had illegal substances in his body. It's not rocket science. I just don't like to hear him being called a drug "cheat"
Raj Posted 23 February 2008 Posted 23 February 2008 Linford Christie, Kelly Holmes, Sir Trevor McDonald, Amara Khan.... no white people involved in these olympics then? [/controversial White tabloid reader kneejerk reaction] Surely they will use the likes oF Seb Coe,Steve Ovett,The Chritian bloke who did the long jump(cant remember his name, but he was wicked!) and the javelin bloke from Loughboro... Christie didn't take drugs deliberately. He's a legend. His supposed "drug cheat" moment came at some pointless charity like run or something towards the end of his career. He had nothing to gain at all from it.Chambers did cheat, and has admitted as much. ...someone FORCED him to consume him!!!
MPH Posted 23 February 2008 Posted 23 February 2008 why would Linford take drugs at that stage of his careerI've seen a programme on it, and with facts in hand i've form the opinion he's not guilty. whos to say he didnt take them earlier in his career? He could of taken them at certain stages and not been caught. Also if you take drugs at a certain stage and then stop taking drugs the muscle gain doesnt just drop off your body, you get the benefit of the increased muscle gain for a good couple of years.. also, i have no doubt as dwayne chambers has said that there are many people taking drugs for things which they are not tested for..
