Raj Posted 6 March 2008 Posted 6 March 2008 Yes I agree pal & by the way I don't mean to murk Gandhi & don't doubt that he did alot of good but it is known that he was racist towards black africans & had more time than most for Hitler as was brought up by The Singh in the other thread. Thats his own views. That was 1940's. and im sure in them days people said things they would not get away with nowadays. Just like Spinny Hill Club having a sign stating"No dogs and blacks allowed' in 1970's(My Dad told me!!!) this is the 21st century Im sure if people trawled through hundreds of books of someone like Martin Luther, they could have said something about him being a bigot or whatever. Just like even now, people think Hitler was right and the Holocaust didnt happen. Just cant change the views of people Thats what makes he World go round Everyone is entitled to their won views,i couldnt give a fcuk. Thats my view and i dont care if anyone agrees! P.S... you there on Sat? L1???
BigGibbo Posted 6 March 2008 Posted 6 March 2008 That's Ridic! Is this some new hip word you're trying to fly I don't think its gonna take off!

What I wouldn't give to be a skinny asian bloke
FilboFox Posted 6 March 2008 Posted 6 March 2008 No. What has Ghandi got to do with us? We are British and he fought against us to help liberate India... why would we put a statue of him up here? Crazy idea... I know there are lots of Indians here but the figure of Ghandi has nothing to do with this country and they should understand that.
Raj Posted 6 March 2008 Posted 6 March 2008 Don't diss the Rushey Mead, buster. Erm...sorry! That's Ridic! Oh Fcuk.....he's back! Amen Im not sure yet im still a little under the weather so may struggle to make it, its doing me fookin nut now It'll be my 4th match missed if I do miss it. BigGibbo Posted 6 March 2008 Posted 6 March 2008 Dirty Bastard! Wishful thinking aye Raj you filthy queen!

General Smuts Posted 6 March 2008 Posted 6 March 2008 OI! Just for that you can get the Cappucinos in on Sat!!! I wont be there
Raj Posted 6 March 2008 Posted 6 March 2008 I wont be there Fcuk sake! First time i ask you to buy me a drink and you bottle out! Bloomin Englishmen!!! And with that i am logging off to go home(Evington NOT india!!!!) Love you all!
FilboFox Posted 6 March 2008 Posted 6 March 2008 I mean would you stick a statue of Queen Victoria up in India... I very much doubt it as they'd be tearing it down within a few days as it'd remind them of the occupation that we had over them... what reason have we for then putting a statue of the person who arguably instigated the fight back against us up in the middle of the country? Like I said, there are a lot of Indian's here but they should realise that Ghandi is a great political figure for THEIR country, not ours and therefore there shouldn't be a statue here.
Sparky Posted 6 March 2008 Posted 6 March 2008 Fcuk sake!First time i ask you to buy me a drink and you bottle out! Bloomin Englishmen!!! And with that i am logging off to go home(Evington NOT india!!!!) Love you all!
Uncle Monty Posted 6 March 2008 Posted 6 March 2008 this argument just seems to be another excuse to have a go at the asain community imo
Dr The Singh Posted 7 March 2008 Posted 7 March 2008 People will always have bad things to say about ANYONE.The likes of Jesus,Martin Luther King,Malcolm X,Mother Teresa etc....if one person idolises them another one will hate them. Its the ways of the World. Im sure there are even people who hate me or BigGibbo!!! However this statue business is a load of bollox. I even wrote in to the Mercury(i do that now and again!) to express my views. I admire Gandhi(THAT is MY view!) But NO WAY should a statue be built in his honour. Even though it is for Belgrave Road and partly funded by The Hindu temple or whatever(20k i think!) We shouldnt even have one of Lineker(legend though he is) Some may say Walshie has achieved more for us than Lineker We have a statue in Gallowtree Gate commemorating all 3 Sporting teams(major ones! ie Tigers,Cricket and City)and that is great. No one can moan about that(though im sure they will!) We have a park named after Nelson Mandela...fair enough surely? BUT why do we need a statue anyway???...of ANYONE!!!! Within days it will probably get vandalised or something.. There are people like Sir Alec Jeffreys, the inventor of DNA profiling who has helped enormously with crime fighting. People have mentioned the Attenborough boys, Joe Olton,Daniel Lambert even... Leicester is a dump at the moment. Millions are being invested into it. Lets get the infrastructure right before we fcuk around with stupid statues! Im going now!!!! Raj, why would anybody hate the like of Jesus,Martin Luther King,Malcolm X,Mother Teresa, as far as I know they have done nothing wrong to anyone in relation to the likes of Gandhi, if they did then i would guess that there mask of divinity be removed and rightfully be taken off there pedestool?????? Raj, you like most don't knwo the truth about Gandhi, the man was a racist, explioted his ashram, betrayed and lied to many under the guise of his mathatma image, double standards aren't the word, and most of all he betrayed his own people for his own purposes, he was a shrewed politician!! ALthough I would add, he saved the hindu dharma\varna system as we know it, what a shame, the dalits may have had the rights that all should enjoy!!! Read my comments on the other thread: http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/index.ph...20&start=20 In Short, he wouldn't outlaw the caste system\descrimination, wouldn't allow his son to marry a different race, betrayed non hindu's including the sikhs, he made various racist comment s against blacks during his time in south africa (he often called blacks Kafir which is an racist insult, and his views on Hitler (his aryan brother) were alittle contraversial. This notion of Gandhi defeating the brits with non violence is bollocks, gandhi\India paid the British $50 million for there freedom, and India at the time was in turmiol with the ensuing partition and religious violence, Britian were skint form WW II and could not control India, so they offered Gandhi a chance to be a supreme hero and inturn got cash and there allegience! The fact that India could have gained freedom in 1918, where Britian was at it's weakest after WW I is a testament to Gandhi, who refused to be part of the freedom movement because he was not at the forefront of the movement, instead he came out with....'I refuse to gain freedom with violence,' and refuted all attempts and even called the legendary freedom fighter Bhagat Singh a traitor and would not intervene on his hanging, but amazingly due to Bhagat Singhs popularity began calling him a national hero, after his hangin ofcourse. He was a shrewd politician, af the highest cunningness Below are some exerpts on Gandhi's racist views: GANDHI ON BLACKS AND RACE RELATIONS • “A general belief seems to prevail in the colony that the Indians are little better, if at all, than the savages or natives of Africa. Even the children are taught to believe in that manner, with the result that the Indian is being dragged down to the position of a raw Kaffir.” »Reference: The Collected Works of Mahatma Gandhi, Government of India (CWMG), Vol I, p. 150 • Regarding forcible registration with the state of blacks: “One can understand the necessity for registration of Kaffirs who will not work.” »Reference: CWMG, Vol I, p. 105 • “Why, of all places in Johannesburg, the Indian Location should be chosen for dumping down all the Kaffirs of the town passes my comprehension...the Town Council must withdraw the Kaffirs from the Location.” »Reference: CWMG, Vol I, pp. 244–245 • His description of black inmates: “Only a degree removed from the animal.” Also, “Kaffirs are as a rule uncivilized - the convicts even more so. They are troublesome, very dirty and live almost like animals.” - Mar. 7, 1908 »Reference: CWMG, Vol VIII, pp. 135-136 To the British during WWII: “This manslaughter must be stopped. You are losing; if you persist, it will only result in greater bloodshed. Hitler is not a bad man.” »Reference: G.D. Birla’s “In the Shadow of the Mahatma”, p. 276 The Durban Post Office One of Gandhi's major "achievements" in South Africa was to promote racial segregation by refusing to share a post office door with the black natives. Sergeant Major Gandhi Learn how Gandhi became a Sgt. Major in the British Army and eagerly participated in the 1906 British war against the black Zulus. Gandhi and South African Blacks Gandhi wrote extensively about his experiences with the blacks of South Africa. He always termed them "Kaffirs" and his writings reveal a deep-seated disdain for these African natives.
Dr The Singh Posted 7 March 2008 Posted 7 March 2008 this argument just seems to be another excuse to have a go at the asain community imo Not at all, let's not generalise either, Gandhi is a Indian\Hindu Icon from the Gujarat community. My roots are from the Punjab and of Sikh Origin, people from my origin have no love affair with Gandhi!!! The people mooting the idea are gujarati hindus, and belgrave road is prominantly gujarati, so it's not a asain issue as such, and to connect me with this proposal or with the gujarati community, I would find offensive!! Just to add, naming a park\street etc is quite different to havig a statue, the park has a use for the general public, and is not a graven image of Mandela, I would have had no problem with them naming a park after a Indian icon other then Gandhi because that cooont was a racist, but a statue is a symbol, statement, a rememberance that reflects the people who see it!!!
Babylon Posted 7 March 2008 Posted 7 March 2008 I think the saying goes "One mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter". I not particularly bothered by the fact there is going to be one, but the more I think about it the more it strikes me as people wanting to set more barriers... ie. This is our area, our temples, our statues. Which is not a good thing for a City that supposedly prides itself on our integration. As DavieG pointed out in another thread, the ethnic communities are encouraged to celebrate their individuality. Where the english individuality is being diluted because we have to be more "inclusive". The left wing think tanks that come up with and allow these schemes are causing problems rather than helping. Would they let someone put up a statue of the pope? Probably not for fear of upsetting a few people of other religions... I know it's not entirely the same as he is a religious icon but you know what I mean. This decision is obviously going to upset some of the asian community and the white community, so the same rules should apply.

You may be The Singh by name but what qualities do you have or show of Sikhism? Alot of my family ARE true Sikhs who dont eat meat, dont consume alcohol, goto the Gudwarah on a regular basis(NOT just on wedding days and then get pissed afterwards!) Dont go on about 'My people' this and 'my people' that when you speak for a minority of Sikhs. Im bored now.....
Babylon Posted 7 March 2008 Posted 7 March 2008 I love inter asian arguments... I work in belgrave and the battles that go on in our car park are brilliant.

Dont go on about 'My people' this and 'my people' that when you speak for a minority of Sikhs. Im bored now..... WHat have I said that is wrong, read your history and get your facts right first, my oarents are from the punjab and of Sikh origin!! What is a true Sikh, what do you know about SIkhism Raj??? Have you ever read Bani, or the mool mater, do you know the difference between, rehat, maryada and the difference between sajedhari, khesdhari and amritdhari! DO you know about mokhsha and how it's obtained???? Do you know what the scriptures say about alcohol, meat, etc?? I won't go into detail, Sikhs CAN eat Meat, there is no rehat, or hukham to say otherwise, INFACT Sikhs can eat BEEF!! There is no scripture that says don't eat meat!! ALkhal Takht, the highest authority have confirmed this!! Sikhs shouldn't Intoxicate, or take substances that cause harm to the body!! That is a weakness that many have, but not once have I said i'm a perfect SIkh!! WHere is it written that a SIkh who drinks is no longer a Sikh???? If I am to be classified as a SIkh, then I would be a Sehajdhari Sikh, notibly I was married according to those bani that were hukham for all SIkhs to take, again this is rehat! FACT, MAJORITY OF SIKHS ARE SAHEJDHARI that EAT MEAT & DRINK I go gurdwara quite often if you want to know, mum goes virtually everyday and has been going for over the last 35 years, my mates dad is the commitee chairman of holy bones??? My kids go abni and punjabi school. My knowledge of Sikh history is quite extensive!! Infact, I would say that I know more about Sikhi then 95% of all Sikhs, and I would gaurentee those %'s against your relatives!!! Raj, firstly get your facts right!! Secondly, for someone to make accusations without proof is shamful and i'm quite angry that someone should do so!! And who the FOOK do you think you are judging me!!! Your bored, then why bring the issue up, obviously you have a problem, come on Raj what is it, man to man??? If I have offended you then say where and how, be a man instead of making such statements!!! WHat you going on about mate, 'my people' etc, who are my people, what is my background, i'm a proud British Sikh, just cus I don't subscribe to the notions you do, does not make you right and does not make you wrong. And if i'm a minority so be it, did you know that stil in India to criticise Gandhi you would be put in jail, the truth is comming out, even Indian historians are acknowledging it. I don't force others others to agree with me but I will make my point whether someone like's it or not!! NAME ME ONE SIKH TEMPLE SHRINE OR MUSUEM THAT HAS GANDHI's PIC IN IT. Sikhs do not acknowledge Gandhi!! I could go really deep, but read punjab history, punjab has it's own distnct genome, it's own distinct cutlture and history, so i'm not wrong. If your man enough prove what I say is wrong, I would gladly apologise for any mistakes I have made!!! Raj, it's only fair that you reply to my post after what you have said!!!!
Dr The Singh Posted 7 March 2008 Posted 7 March 2008 I love inter asian arguments... I work in belgrave and the battles that go on in our car park are brilliant. There's no arguement, I have no issues with Raj or anyone, i'm quite happy taking criticism if valid, I hope my response has answered the questions he asked!!! Sometimes the truth is bitter!!!
