Gandhi aint got note to do with Leicester, Gary Lineker was City born and bread, a true legend of Leicestershire, acually when he worked on the market my Grandfather worked next to him. All the Indians down melton road who have been wanting Gandhi...not in a racist way thou.

You shouldnt have to explain yourself really mate!

Im sure no one on here thinks you are racist, you are just airing an opinion. No doubt you feel you have to justify yourself because of the stupid politically correct brigade that seem to be everywhere these days, that take the slightest thing anyone says as an insult to someone when it clearly isnt!

Supporters of Ghandi and Gary Lineker are set to be disappointed.

Welsh actor and sculptor Sir Hannibal Lecter is to unveil a statue of Tommy Cooper in the dead comedian's favourite city of Leicester.

Lecter, who was, himself, born in Port-Talbot, is the patron of the Tommy Cooper Society, and started chipping away at the statue, made entirely from human body parts, three years ago. It's thought the 80-foot piece will be unveiled later this year.

Cooper and Lecter never met, but were great fans of each other's work. Indeed, Lecter, who played murderous cannibal Anthony Hopkins in the Silence of the Lambs, is known to enjoy doing impersonations of Cooper at parties and other social gatherings.

A spokesman for Mr Lecter told the BBC:

"Hannibal really was a fan of Tommy Cooper. He loves the way he wore that fez."

Asked how Mr Lecter obtained the materials for the sculpture, the spokesman said:

"Just like that. Not like that. Like that!"

Feel free to sign the Downing St petition, which is oppossing the early day motion that keith Vaz has put through parliament, in favour of a Gandhi statue to be erected in Leicester!

Go here to sign the petition http://petitions.pm.org.uk/Gandhi/

There is also another petition, simply saying that we oppose the erection of a Gandhi statue, which I started initialy untill finding the Downing St petition was aparent, and gaining more momentum.

but feel fee to sign this petition as well, and you can also put a comment on this petition if you wish.

To sign both just adds more weight to the cause.

Go here to sign this petition http://www.petitiononline.com/ngs/petition.html

If you are not bothered about this statue, then that is fine, simply don't sign the petition.

There is obviously smarter more beneficial things to spend the money on,

But it is only a statue at the end of the day :dunno:

Theres another thread for this somewhere anyway.

Sign the two 'No to Gandhi statue' petitions,

one is a Downing St petition against the early day motion Keith Vaz put through parliament, calling for the erection of the Gandhi statue, and the other simply opposses the erecting of the statue.

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Gandhi/

http://www.petitiononline.com/ngs/petition.html

I actualy started the second petition shown here.

and have been on BBC Radio Leicester which they only used a few seconds of an interview, BBC Radio Leeds fora few minutes, the Independent and Daily Star News paper, Times Now TV which is a national TV station in India, and CNN India!

My point for oppossing the statue is that it is not about stsatues really, its about the English finaly speaking out after years of being ignored and watching parts of our City of Leicester being colognised with not much intergration at all, whilst the English are pushed out etc

We all are fine with controled imigration, but when it is on mass and starts to change the face of your country, then the English have every right to want to preserve our land, history culture and identity if we wish, as is the right of all other indigenous peoples all over the world.

What a silly idea! I don't live in Leicester myself but I have spent quite a lot of time there because its where my grandparents live. Shouldn't statutes feature someone that has a local connection with the city, not some general historical figure? Gandhi represents the idea of non-violent resistence, the independence of India from the British Empire, good stuff but it doesn't have any connection with the city of Leicester. Why Gandhi in particular, why not some other virtuous historical figure? I can't see any reason why Keith Vaz introduced this idea other than some kind of weird sop to Leicester's asian community, which is an absolutely terrible reason to erect a statute.

Indeed.

If folk can raise enough funds for a statue of Lineker in Braunstone or somewhere else in the city, I'm sure the city council wouldn't have a problem with that either.

As for bandwagon jumpers and attention seekers, better ask "Ingy" about them. He was the one who ran to the Sun telling tales, a fact he somehow forgot to mention in his post.

Whats with the slanderous libel comments?

Would you like to enlighten me on what you are talking about?

You have ignored my comments already.

as stated this is not about statues entirely.

Its about areas of Leicester being colognised and the English being pushed out and culturally cleansed in their own areas, which is very wrong.

If your happy to be culturally and even ethnically cleansed, then why not go the whole hog and go and live in India where you will be more hapy by the sound of it.

Indeed.

Also I didn't aproach any news paper concerning this issue, only the Independent news paper came to me.

and even if I did aproach any news papers or any media, it would be to expose this nonsense of this statue in order to let our people know what exactly is going on in their city and country, as unlike you, I care very much about the English and England.

So if the poles, Somalis, Afghans, Iraqis, Russians, Turkish etc etc etc wanted to fund anything in this country it is OK then? they can all just start slaping up what they want changing the face of England?

Its a charity not registered in England or britain for that matter, who are proposing to fund it, so how about a charity registered in England who catour only for the English (see www.steadfasttrust.org.uk) wanted to fund a statue of Churchill or Enoch Powell in India, they certainly would be up in arms and wouldn't have it,

so the Englsh have every right to not want a statue of the racist Gandhi, who split his country in two and made some hugely racist comments about black Africans and who was known as an Indian nationalist.

It's privately funded therefore I really couldn't care less.
