ASH17LCFC Posted 18 March 2008 Posted 18 March 2008 Walsh was the ultimate football hero for City. There's no doubting he loved that shirt. Walshie wasn't the greatest footballer by a long shot. But he was all heart, all atitude and he conveyed that spirit to all around him which had the most significant effect. I well remember Walshie the attacker. His sheer bloody mindedness scared defenders into mistakes. He scored too, stacks of times but his attitude was copied by others to the point where even the Arsenals and Manchester Uniteds were uneasy when City sent the heavy brigade up for a corner or free-kick. Endless appearances, bloodied shirts, personal confrontations, the shaking fist to his team-mates, toether with the considerable achievements and trips to Wembley... It all added up to a warrior and how we could do with such an inspiration today. Spot on with everything. Walsh is probally Mr Leicester City more then anyone. The guy wasn't the best but made up for that with his never say die attuide and full blooded displays plus scoring 2 past the sheep. A great makeshift striker aswell.
davieG Posted 18 March 2008 Author Posted 18 March 2008 WOuldn't see be a bit of a GILF though, I mean Brians mrs must have been in her fifties??? Little was only in his mid thirties when he came to us.
Dr The Singh Posted 18 March 2008 Posted 18 March 2008 Little was only in his mid thirties when he came to us. Was he, it must have been the doses of white hair he had that made him look older!!!
C-man Posted 18 March 2008 Posted 18 March 2008 Barry Hayles is already my hero so I'm tempted to go for Stearman...
Daggers Posted 18 March 2008 Posted 18 March 2008 Stearman. And I never thought I'd ever say that if you'd asked me last season or the beginning of this.
Flynny Posted 18 March 2008 Posted 18 March 2008 I can Stearman being with us for a long, long time, and I think if we do go up next season or the one after he'll make a decent Premiership player. Mattock'll be with us a fair few seasons too I reckon.
Simi Posted 18 March 2008 Posted 18 March 2008 Stearman - probably the only guy that gives half a shit about this club. Despite Hendrie's antics at the weekend.
Raj Posted 18 March 2008 Posted 18 March 2008 Stearman - probably the only guy that gives half a shit about this club. Despite Hendrie's antics at the weekend. And Mattock.
clazkel Posted 18 March 2008 Posted 18 March 2008 Stearman for me. He's turned around his season round alot. Yeah Stearman for me to, he has improved soo much this season and he gives 100% when he goes in for a challenge and he never seems to back out. He seems to give all hes got every game, and i think hes really positive when he goes forward. I think he is one of our longest serving players now aswell (don't quote me on that tho). He needs a song!
Kilworthfox Posted 18 March 2008 Posted 18 March 2008 I don't wish to go against the poll but the mighty saviour Stears has not got it in him to be a hero like Walshy
clazkel Posted 18 March 2008 Posted 18 March 2008 I don't wish to go against the poll but the mighty saviour Stears has not got it in him to be a hero like Walshy I don't know if he can be a legend like Walshy but he is the only player in the team who has the potential to be a legend, apart from Hendrie (after his performance on sat) but i'm not sure if Hendrie will show soo much enthusiasm every game.
Daggers Posted 18 March 2008 Posted 18 March 2008 I don't wish to go against the poll but the mighty saviour Stears has not got it in him to be a hero like Walshy I argue that. This lad has been vilified (loudly) by drunken assholes for trotting out shite performances ( ) and yet he has worn his LCFC heritage on his sleeve, pulled his socks up and produced major advances in his level of performance. I truly believe that him and Mattock are the only two out on the field that actually care about the club to any level beyond 'paycheck'. Fair play to the boy, he commands my respect and the best of hope for the future. He really could make Leg status.
Thracian Posted 18 March 2008 Posted 18 March 2008 I sometimes wonder if people realise how hard it is to play wing back but Stearman seems to finish games with as much drive and determination to get forward as when he starts. He's more than usually skillful for a defender and well able to retain possession in forward positions and to deliver crosses that are difficult to deal with. His tackling has become more tenacious and his marking tighter since he made a mistake a couple of months back which led to a goal and, doubtless, a ticking off that he's clearly reacted to in the best possible way. I'm quite sure that as our team improves he can have even greater influence though he's got a way to go yet before I'd talk of with quite the same reverence as Pontus Kaamark, Peter Rodriques or Richie Norman.
Dames Posted 18 March 2008 Posted 18 March 2008 Walsh was indeed a good player, but hero? Have you heard the bumwash the bloke spouts on Radio Leicester. Jesus. He's not the brightest bulb in the box. I don't see why what he says on the Radio should bring him down? No its not aimed at you personally i've read a few comments over the months of people whinging about him and saying he's lost legendary status because he sometimes gets a little over enthusiastic on the radio. Its stupid really, not every ****er in this world is a genius wether people like it or not.
accessory Posted 19 March 2008 Posted 19 March 2008 I don't wish to go against the poll but the mighty saviour Stears has not got it in him to be a hero like Walshy  He may be local, but that doesn't necessarily make him Premier quality. And as for caring about the club, if an offer comes in (as may happen over the summer), he'll be off.
C-man Posted 19 March 2008 Posted 19 March 2008 I sometimes wonder if people realise how hard it is to play wing back but Stearman seems to finish games with as much drive and determination to get forward as when he starts.......I'm quite sure that as our team improves he can have even greater influence though he's got a way to go yet before I'd talk of with quite the same reverence as Pontus Kaamark, Peter Rodriques or Richie Norman. Richie Norman is God. He coaches football at my college and being a full-back myself, I've learnt so much from him. As well as hearing about his 25 yarder at Old Trafford every other week.
davieG Posted 19 March 2008 Author Posted 19 March 2008 Opinion: It takes time to be a hero! by Andy Mann Ian Holloway's call for his players to bring the passion back to Leicester City will strike a chord with supporters. "I think it's been lacking over the past few years and we have to bring that back," the City boss said yesterday. Holloway, who played and manages with his heart on his sleeve, singled out some of the Blue Army's idols of the recent past - such as Muzzy Izzet, Gerry Taggart and Steve Walsh - to underline what he is looking for. Many fans will agree with him. But heroes, like those mentioned above, are not made overnight. They come from stability and from building relationships with supporters. That has not happened in recent years as successive managers have sought to build and rebuild the squad. Walsh made 449 appearances for City, Izzet 323 and Taggart just short of 150. Such has been the bewildering turnover of players at the Walkers Stadium that only Iain Hume, Patrick Kisnorbo and Richard Stearman have made more than 100 appearances of the current squad. More than 100 players have worn the famous blue jersey since City moved from Filbert Street in 2002. In that time, the question of which name to have on the back of a new shirt might have beaten one or two fans. Indeed, it would be interesting to know if there are any bearing Luigi Glombard's name after his 10 minutes at Ipswich last season. This campaign has seen that turnover continue, with two of Martin Allen signings, Jimmy Nielsen and Sergio Hellings, not even making a first-team appearance. In total, City have used 37 players so far this league season, more than any other team in the Championship. Bristol City, in contrast, have used 25 players. With that turnover in mind, it is easy to see why fans might feel players do not share their passion. But try telling the likes of Kisnorbo or Hume, or City fans Stearman and Joe Mattock, that they do not care about the club. The passion supporters crave is there, as demonstrated most recently by the fightback against West Bromwich Albion. "That's what we need now for the next seven games and to carry it on into next season," said Holloway. And, if that happens, the Blue Army could well have their next generation of heroes to replace Izzet, Taggart, Walsh et al.
FilboFox Posted 19 March 2008 Posted 19 March 2008 100 players in 6 years... Thats virtually like saying a brand new squad every year! And to be honest, I can't see it stopping after this years performances, many new players will be coming and some old ones going in the summer... hopefully anyway!
renards Posted 19 March 2008 Posted 19 March 2008 Can't see any becoming heros. Problem is maybe in football generally, unless you have money you loose any half decent player. Good to see Stearman and Mattock up there, but nobody could blame them for moving on, this is how players make money. ..................unless of couse we reach ther promised land
ibbosuk Posted 19 March 2008 Posted 19 March 2008 I don't see one, but if pushed...and it better not be to hard, Oakley.
Uncle Albert Posted 19 March 2008 Posted 19 March 2008 Im going to say Andy King. Dont know why but something drawn me to him.
Joe. Posted 19 March 2008 Posted 19 March 2008 Like the others I'd go for Stearman and Mattock. Stearman's really turned himself around since that bollocking of Ollie's and he's a much better player for it. Mattock's a local lad and being young still he's determined to do well for this team. Both two players who put their all in for our team when they play at the moment.
ASH17LCFC Posted 19 March 2008 Posted 19 March 2008 Hume has got what it takes to be a hero here. I know he's not had a great season this year but when he's on form, he's probally our best player.
