You required to field 8 players as far as i know, so a rule has been broken although technically it did not affect the end result.Fine would be the appropriate decision however this F.A? As one of the loan players scored, many Stoke fans (and others) argue that it DID influence the result. A lot of clubs will be watching the league closely. The rule is there for a reason - to stop unscrupulous boards running down the size of their squads. The league has seen fit to impose a number of draconian punishments on clubs already this season for breaches of rules.. Wednesday fans can't complain too much if the same happens here.

Owls face fine over loan players Sheffield Wednesday could face a fine from the Football League for naming too many loan players in their squad for Saturday's match against Stoke City. League rules state that only five loan players are allowed on each team sheet, but the Owls included six. Frank Songo, Graham Kavanagh, Ben Sahar and Enoch Showunmi all played, whilst Bartosz Slusarski and Adam Bolder were unused substitutes. Leeds were fined £2,000 for naming six loan players at Burnley last season.

At the end of the day, i'd want us to be staying up by more than 1 point above the drop zone anyway, so if we go down because they haven't been deducted a point then it's our own fault for being garbage for 99% of this season.

Thracian Posted 31 March 2008 Posted 31 March 2008 If the league is to keep what remains of its integrity, it MUST impose a points deduction on the owls.The ironically-named Brian Laws has broken the rules and gained a clear advantage in doing so. A fine in this case would be inadequate. Thank God it wasn't us who made this type of fcuk-up! If we had made the mistake we'd have deserved to lose the points, no question. A fine is of no consequence, is no deterrent and is inappropriate to the situation.

So the only way you can really punish a side is by docking points. I mean a team could easily pay a fine so if they know they are only gonna get a fine they might as well break the rules if it helps them get points. They probably didn't but Wednesday could have said "If we're only gonna get a fine and no points deducted we might as well play all these loan players to help us get a point"

As two of the loan players didn't even play a normal person (and others) would argue that it didn't infleunce the result. You just want them deducted points so we stay up. They'll get fined and rightly so.

They'll get fined and rightly so. Spot on The situation would have been different if all 6 had played a part in the game, but the fact is they didnt. Rules were broken and a punishment is required, but lets be realistic and sensible.

They'll get fined and rightly so. I agree. We deserve a fine for breaking the rules but it didn't influence the game.
