Bryn Posted 30 March 2008 Posted 30 March 2008 The staggering deal that makes Ameobi the most expensive loanee in English club historyStoke are so desperate to get into the Premier League they agreed to pay Newcastle a £575,000 'transfer fee' for their loan of Shola Ameobi, even though he may only be at the club for six weeks. It's a staggering deal that makes Ameobi the most expensive loanee in English club history. And the final figure for the striker, who has not scored for nearly 18 months, will approach £1million if Stoke go up via the play-offs, with a bonus due to Newcastle on promotion. But City chairman Peter Coates said: 'We wouldn't want to look back and think we haven't had a go. We have done a deal and taken that risk. There are no guarantees but we're trying not to miss out.' In addition to the down-payment to Newcastle, Stoke will also meet the player's £25,000-a-week wages until the end of the season on May 4. He will stay at the Britannia Stadium if the club reach the play-off final on May 24. fooking hell. I reeckon it'll be a waste of money as well.
Kilworthfox Posted 30 March 2008 Posted 30 March 2008 fooking hell. I reeckon it'll be a waste of money as well. Never rated the guy! He is shiite!
Asha Posted 30 March 2008 Posted 30 March 2008 Even from just watching the championship, you can tell he won't score many.
SamL Posted 30 March 2008 Posted 30 March 2008 I think it would be rather funny if they fail to get promoted after all that. Never rated the guy, sounds like a waste of money. Glad we're not in their shoes.
sdb Posted 30 March 2008 Posted 30 March 2008 Ameobi should be good at this level. Bit pricey but could prove priceless
Durnerz Posted 30 March 2008 Posted 30 March 2008 Think who they could have got for that amount of money. Ameobi was good 4-5 years ago but not now, just shows when Shearer retired it was his big chance and he never looked arsed, happy to sit on the bench or reserves at Newcastle getting paid.
lildave3 Posted 30 March 2008 Posted 30 March 2008 That's madness, can't see how they thought he'd be worth it.
Head Honcho Posted 30 March 2008 Posted 30 March 2008 Even from just watching the championship, you can tell he won't score many. With 6 games to go I doubt he will!!! He didn't play too bad imo and arguably should've had at least one penalty.
DB11 Posted 30 March 2008 Posted 30 March 2008 It would be very funny to see Stoke not go up. Ameobi missing a penalty in, say, the play off final
Simi Posted 30 March 2008 Posted 30 March 2008 It would be very funny to see Stoke not go up. Ameobi missing a penalty in, say, the play off final Or, the winner against us on the final day of the season which sees us relegated.
DB11 Posted 30 March 2008 Posted 30 March 2008 Or, the winner against us on the final day of the season which sees us relegated. We'll be safe by then I hope
SamL Posted 30 March 2008 Posted 30 March 2008 What a waste of money - just another Elvis. Elvis who? Do you mean (ankle)?
Samilktray Posted 31 March 2008 Posted 31 March 2008 The Stephen Pearson deal sounds pretty pricey too.
Jack Posted 31 March 2008 Posted 31 March 2008 Half a mill, for Shola Ameobi for 6 weeks, that is madness!
tartanowl Posted 31 March 2008 Posted 31 March 2008 Pearson caused us problems on Saturday, I was very surprised when they took him off. Ameobi was shite though and very lucky to have stayed on the pitch. He should have been sent off. If Ameobi's performances continue like that for Stoke he will be a monumental waste of money.

The Reverend Posted 31 March 2008 Posted 31 March 2008 What a farce! This guy is average at best - how he can justify that is beyond me. For that sort of money Stoke could of got a player who isnt as injury prone as Jimbo Wesolowski and has scored a goal within the last 18 months
Joe. Posted 31 March 2008 Posted 31 March 2008 I bet Newcastle were laughing all the way to the bank when they accepted this offer. Watch Ameobi score against us last game of the season to put Stoke up now....
Jack Posted 31 March 2008 Posted 31 March 2008 Watch Ameobi score against us last game of the season to put Stoke up now.... Aslong as we are safe I couldn't care less
Bryn Posted 31 March 2008 Author Posted 31 March 2008 Reminds me of a conversation I had with a mate once; if instead of buying a player for a million pounds, you could buy one solitary goal, would it be worth it? Like spending all that money might seem wasteful but if he scores one goal in his whole time there that gets them the extra points they need to go up it'll be worth it. Thought provoking, but even so, a shit signing.

Still Shit though
