Henderson: 6 (Good penalty save - had our defenders been more alert they might contested the rebound but it did fall well for Beatttie)

Stearman 7 (Another consistent and totally involved performance. Pleased though that Holloway took the chance to give Chambers some much needed game time)

Kisnorbo No mark (Did he foul for the penalty or did the Sheffield bloke put the brakes on and fall over the second he was touched? One thing is for sure the linesman couldn't have seen and assessed all the aspects from the distance away he was and the refereee, 10 yards away, would not, I believe, have given anything but for the linesman's signal)'

McAuley 4.5 (Poor game in various ways.)

Mattock 5 (Really struggled against the talented and always positive David Cotterill, as many would, but his problems were exaggerated by his having to try to get forward while having no close real with the departure of Kisnorbo. Stuck at it though, didn't hide or disappear from the game but Sheffield saw a weakness and exploited it. Might have been a more interesting battle had we had a full side)

N'Gotty 6.25 (Helped stabilise the team after the referee ruined the game as a contest with the silly sending off and deserves credit for that).

Bell 6 (Nothing like as dangerous as on his debut. We rarely threatened to get behind the Blades defence and really missed having no-one with any real pace up front).

Oakley 6.25 (One half decent chance and a solid rather than influential game).

Weso 7 (With Stearman one of our better players. Sheffield had a lot of good passing and movement and Weso covered so much ground he must have been totally spent by the end.)

Fryatt 6 (Frustrating game. One relatively simple chance when, even with two bites, he failed to put it away and hitting the second effort over commited the cardinal sin of failing to hit the target. Lively and elusive at times but never strong enough, fast enough or confident enough to make the best of what came his way.

Howard 6.5 (He was forever holding the ball up and feeding lay-offs to feet. Had a couple of on target snap shots but lost his man completely as the corner came over for their third goal)

Subs:

Chambers 6 (Very positive as he could afford to be in the short time he had but, sadly, no end product)

King 6 (City seemed to enjoy an modest attacking flourish when he came on. It was probably coincidental but he certainly kept moves going and directed all his passes accurately to feet while playing a mostly distributive role which

allowed others to get forward. I'd like to see him sharp again and able to really drive forward himself).

Worley 5.5 (One good interception and must have been thrilled to make a steady if short debut).

The fans deserved a big mention cos they were immense - the wide-ranging humour and virtually non-stop singing from "the right side" particularly was something to be proud of and made for an absolutely tremendous atmosphere which defied

the handicap we were made to bear on the pitch.

Definitely a MoM performance. In fact a straight 10. They shamed the Sheffield fans "3-0 up and you still don't sing" and the call for "hush" which was so funny. Not to mention the shoes - even the press cameraman couldn't resist gettting a shot of "the shoes".

Memorable day and, despite the marks, all the players deserved credit for continuing to give their all and for trying to play some decent football even if it was never easy against a capable, organised and clearly much-revived side.

1) He cant run with his hands behind his back!!

2) He didnt touch him

3) The ref thought he'd tripped him not pulled him back

Yes, but Kisnorbo does it every game and all he does is pull his man down all the time and when he gets the ball it's fookin HOOF! Time Kisnorbo is dropped.

As for Worley, I heard he is a monster - is he the next Matty Elliott??

how can anyone be rated over 5 when we'v just been hammered 3-0?

We weren't hammered 3-0. They scored from three set pieces.

Much of the game was well contested especially when we were handicapped down to 10 men for about 75 minutes.

Yes they might have scored two or three more and were particularly threatening with some really inviting crosses from the right.

But we didn't just sit back and soak everything up, we played a part and I've seen us play much, much worse with 11 men on occasions.

I think the fans who were there acknowledged this because their support never faltered - either for the team or for Holloway.

That's not to discount the nightmare minutes surrounding the goals or the dreadful situation the result leaves us in but there were things beyond our control that played a big, big part.

Even with their free-kick for the second goal the referee got in the way preventing our player making a clean interception during the incident that resulted in the foul. He did almost the same a few minutes later and was utterly diabolical up to halftime.

Henderson - 6

Stearman - 6

McAuley - 5

Kisnorbo - N/A

Mattock - 4 (AS would have been lynched on here if he'd played like that)

Wesolowski - 6

Oakley - 5

N'Gotty - 5

Bell - 7*

Fryatt - 3 (he makes Hammond look Linekeresque in comparison.. :o )

Howard - 6

Chambers - 6

King - 5 (looked short of fitness)

Worley - 6

Holloway - 5 (yet more bizarre tactics and substitutions)

Ref - 0. The penalty decision was appalling and compounding it with a red card was inexcusable. Send him back to the pub leagues! :@:@:@

Fans 10 - zaniest performance for a very long time. :D More of the same at Barnsley and Stoke please :clap::clap:

I have absolutely no idea how well anyone played after the third goal went in.

You have to say tho that Kismeknob did not put a foot wrong 2nd half!

Discounting the first 20 minutes I actually thought we played some decent progressive (for us) football with some simple one twos, many over lapping runs :o and some close passing taking us pass the opposition, in fact from a quality of football perspective as good as I've seen for an away match this side of whenever especially considering we were down to 10, oh and even Hendo manage to throw the ball out a few times..

Sure there was still the plethora of mis-placed passes, mostly from McAuley but then they weren't too different in that respect.

As is always the case so we just can't produce goals.

james beatie 10 :giggle:

to be perfecly honest. That is without a doubt the worst hat-trick i've ever seen. He was awful for the rest of the day apart from one twisting volley that went over, he didn't trouble us.

Mattock was in front of his man far too much and looked well out of his depth, and Bell, I thought worked hard but made very little impact. howard impressed but he had NO support for all of his holding play and knock downs.

Agreed, although at times I thought we were too intricate, for once I actually encouraged the hoof up for us to simply gain some kind of territorial advantage.

Henderson - 6 - good penalty save but could have came and punched the ball clear before they scored there third goal

Stearman - 7 - solid

Kisnorbo N/A shocking decision by the ref/linesman to send him off.

McAuley -6 - passing was shocking but his defending was good most of the time

Mattock -6 - it was hard for mattock because he was having to play left back and left mid and defend against a speedy and skillfull right mid

N'Gotty -5 - he was to slow and got skinned to easily

Bell - 8 - had there right back in his pocket in the second half. always looked dangerous and delivered some good crosses

Oakley - 7 - tackled well and made some good passes. also had a good shot which was well saved

Weso -7 - worked his socks off

Fryatt - 5 - trys to do to much when he gets the ball and missed a sitter

Howard -7 - won most headers, held the ball up well and put fryatt through one on one. also had a couple of good shots that went just wide of the post or were well saved

Subs:

Chamber -6-didn't do anything wrong for the time he was on

King - 6 Good passing but looks quite slow

Fans 10 - Brilliant especially Gangway D, E and F

shoes off was amazing

Hardly surprising King wasn't match sharp. As I mentioned last week it's ages since he played at all.

I think we need to try a team without Howard for a week. He's just not performing.

he played well yesterday against sheffield united.

We're too reliant on him, although I wouldn't drop him because of it. I thought he did ok yesterday, he had a good tussle with Ugo Ehiogu, both won their fair share in the air.

Howard did well yesterday, held the ball well won flicks. Not humes biggist fan but will be glad when he's back along side howard and not fryatt.

I'm not Howard's biggest fan but his main problem, when he's having a good game is that his strike partner, Fryatt is never anywhere near him and more often than not ensconced in midfield .

What we need is an out and out striker/goal poacher alongside him, the nearest we have to that is DJ, Hume can and has done that role but it's been so long he's probably forgotten how to play it.
