Joe. Posted 12 April 2008 Posted 12 April 2008 Cheeky sod, you know what I meant. There's a lot riding on this game yes. Everybody, just have a good time regardless of what happens. Sing your hearts out. But yeah seriously, you're original post is spot on. Take note people and get yourselves to Barnsley!
Foxhateram Posted 12 April 2008 Posted 12 April 2008 newbie!!! I've been a city fan nie-on thirty years!!! - your belief is false and unfounded and its twats like you that have put this club in this precarious position - keep the faith eh?!!! hehehehehehehehe oh dear me, you have picked on word out a long post to use aganst me. in order to create some sort of debate between me and you. The word newbie refelcting how many posts you have made on this site. did i mention keeping the faith? would be nice if people read my posts rather then skimming and picking out certain words. good day to you sir.
Lillehamring Posted 12 April 2008 Posted 12 April 2008 surely, it's not quite the doom and gloom people are suggesting here... things to consider. 1. this is a game that we could have easily lost - they had nothing to lose, we are under extreme pressure 2. we came back from a goal down, how many times have we done that this season 3. we are no further behind ssouthampton than before 4. we picked up points on cov and the freefalling blackpool 5. shef weds have to pick up at least a point against a confident team just to keep up with us 6. we scored a goal 7. we don't have to worry about not winning back to back games in the next match 8. we never gave up 9. the colchester reports i have read said we were the better side, and that our attack seemed strong 10. we seem to do better when there is something to play for (ie against the good teams) maybe the pressure of the final games will fire them up, after all we have seen that we can play well. yes, i know we didn't win, but lets keep perspective of the season we've had, how anyone can come on here and even use the word 'should' during the most inconsistent season ever is a joke, especially in the sentence 'should have easily won' come on, 10 reasons there to not give up on the season yet

Had we won today, we would have not won at Barnsley. Fact. Still, it was ****ing shit today. And I got really really wet today. Bollocks.
Maybes Posted 12 April 2008 Posted 12 April 2008 3. we are no further behind ssouthampton than before Today though was a really good chance to overtake them, which was passed up.
demon_dog Posted 12 April 2008 Posted 12 April 2008 I told the people around me before the game started that I thought we might lose today, because Colchester had nothing to play for so would be difficult to play against. They are the worst team in the division, yet we managed to make them look half decent!! TBF we did dominate the first half but with strikers trying to walk the ball in the net instead of shooting when given half a chance is no good. I have been a supporter of Ollie so far but after todays game I am not so sure he is the man to take us forward. His team selection I thought was wrong from the start, I feel he should have played Hume up front and also played McCauley. All week we have heard the players and management say what a big game this was, they'd be motivated and do all they could to win. What a load of crap!! It's all very well talking a good game but another matter when it comes to playing. Where the hell is the motivation and desire that we needed today. I and 22000 other fans didn't see it today. I cannot see us taking another 3 points this season with displays like that. I'm so depressed to think that we may face all of next season watching crap football in a crap division, much like todays game TBH. Sod I'm going out to get p*ssed.

Thracian Posted 12 April 2008 Posted 12 April 2008 It just makes me grieve. As a manager I'd have expected to win that game by three or four. I think we actually got the ball in the net four times they were that bad. I explained before the match that Colchester scored at least a goal every game for at least the last six and that we'd need to score two or more. We failed. Holloway's record worsened, our predicament got a little more desperate and I was left wondering why. For 20 minutes we played some football, created some chances and only failed to take the lead because, instead of getting bodies into the box, we were hedging our bets and avoiding getting caught on the rebound. Or being lazy. This point was typified when D.J. Campbell whipped a cracking low ball across the six yard box after about 10 minutes and no-one gambled, no-one took the chance for a tap in. We had more crossings than Stenna Line but no-one got on the end of them and no-one attacked the near post all game so every cross went to waste until Holloway made his changes, sadly about 30 minutes too late to ever win the game. Finally he brought in more pace, mobility and challenge, Colchester started to look ragged again and we added another 10 minutes of genuine effort to our intiial 20, meaning we completed 30 minutes of a 90 minute shift with any urgency. Much maligned Iain Hume collected the priceless goal which saved our season by doing the one thing no-one else seemed capable of, keeping his cool and hitting the target. But why did Holloway wait so long? What the hell was he afraid of and why did we play so narrow for so long? Kelly used to play narrow. I have never known such nonsense. Colchester aren't Barcelona or Inter Milan. Why negate our advantage by making life easier for the visitors? Okay, we only functioned dangerously off the right flank - our left flank is basically a mess. And, as usual we didn't deliver a free kick or corner worth the name or even of Senior League standard. I've mentioned Kisnorbo taking free-kicks before. It's like asking a boxer to do ballet dancing. But we still had enough if Holloway had given us 45 minutes of the speed, skill and movement of Campbell, Hume, Fryatt, aided by McAuley's height and heading ability. Never mind Fryatt's big miss. The kid carved Colchester apart. But we left it too late to win and really needed 45 minutes of that, with close support, and we got 10/15 minutes. If Leicester go down it will be as a result of a lack of goals, tactical nievity and a failure to go all out at teams. Little things count in football and we simply refuse to tilt the balance our way. Well done Richard Stearman and David Bell for never ceasing to try different things to work an opening on the right and for finally conjuring the cross that led to our equaliser. Well done Lee Hendrie for showing some passion and trying to lift the crowd (with Stearman) and to drive our troops. Well done Matt Fryatt for reviving our spirits and frustrating us at the same time and God Bless Iain Hume for kicking the doubters in the teeth and scoring the goal that let's us fight another day. I don't know if it will help to save us cos today left me with even less faith in our manager than I had before. But at least its a lifeline.

We've had yet another chance to put it in our own hands again which we've squandered against a team that offered very little. A lot of people were saying before the game that if we can't beat Colchester at home then we deserve to go down. I think we do deserve to go down to be honest. A football team, especially in the modern era of 3 points for a win, needs to score goals to earn the right to any success. We were actually getting better results when we were creating far less chances. I agree that it was wrong of people to "expect" a win today but when it comes down to so few games of the season then it is bound to frustrate people given the pressure we created in the first half without scoring - knowing now that we need to go to Barnsley and win there instead. We will run out of get-out-of-jail cards soon and it's games like today that have been the difference.
Daggers Posted 12 April 2008 Posted 12 April 2008 I had a delightful steak & stilton cheese pastie, at New Street. I can strongly commend them.
FleckneyFox Posted 12 April 2008 Posted 12 April 2008 This is slightly random but who was the guy standing around in the warm up not doing anything, he was wearing the training kit, i think it was the same guy sitting on the bench wearing jeans and a white hoody. I thought it may have been Levi?

davieG Posted 12 April 2008 Posted 12 April 2008 Ian Holloway says his side showed 'great character' to fight back for a draw against Colchester United at the Walkers Stadium on Saturday. Despite his side having the majority of the possession, the Foxes went into the final stage of the game a goal down after Kevin Lisbie had given the visitors the lead. But a last minute leveller from substitute Iain Hume meant that it was honours even on the day. The draw moves City up to 21st position in the table with three games remaining. Holloway said: "We showed great character to snatch something out of the fire today. We dominated the play, but we have got to do more in front of goal. You just cannot miss chances like we are missing. "We created more than enough chances to win the game again today. DJ Campbell has got a great cross in during the first half and that should be a tap in. "The boys were a little bit edgy and we weren't moving as fluently as we can. We have had 15 shots and only scored one goal. The frustrating thing is Barry Hayles' header in the second half was not offside and should have been a goal. "People might be thinking that a point from that game isn't good enough. But if we can win our next two then we will take some stopping. "We have gained a point on Coventry and we have still got Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley to play. We have got to show character."
davieG Posted 12 April 2008 Posted 12 April 2008 We were lucky today because the fat lady wasn't able to find the microphone hidden in the folds of her flesh.
FleckneyFox Posted 12 April 2008 Posted 12 April 2008 Was he 5'1'' ? He was fairly small dark/tanned skin, looked a bit like DJ
lavrentis Posted 12 April 2008 Posted 12 April 2008 He was fairly small dark/tanned skin, looked a bit like DJ I saw him too. Did he get the ball out the net once and also hung around on the right post.

Flynny Posted 12 April 2008 Posted 12 April 2008 The frustrating thing is Barry Hayles' header in the second half was not offside and should have been a goal. I'd forgotten about that. Fucks sake.
lildave3 Posted 12 April 2008 Posted 12 April 2008 Also, should we have had a penalty when Howard appeared to be pulled down? Clutching at straws here
StroudFox Posted 12 April 2008 Posted 12 April 2008 Well I have to say I am not going to be that negative. I thought the atmosphere was cracking - went home with a sore throat and hoarse voice. Stearman was really psyched up and was great watching him get wound up and trying to wind the crowd up. I thought Hayles played well on the wing but think Campbell should have gone off, I didn't think he did that well. I was just really frustrated that we didn't score earlier, apart from Hayles' disallowed goal - I want to see that on TV because I thought it was onside. There were never any men in the box to head, tap or put the bloody ball in the net. Howard was crap. No-one seemed brave to have a go at scoring. Fryatt's sitter was embarrassing. Hume annoyed me when I saw his interview on Sky sports. He was saying the crowd need to stay behind the team. Well they did today, couldn't fault it. But how many players thanked the crowd at the end? 3: Clapham, Kisnorbo and Stears. If they don't give anything to the crowd, why would they want to give anything back. On a more positive note, I always felt we would draw Colchester and am not too worried at the moment as long as we win some of the other 3!! A big ask I know.

A big ask I know. that's a very interesting point actually, at the vålerenga game last week, after the final whistle every single player joined hands and did this weird reverse bowing thing to every stand, and the crowd did it back, you'd never see anything like that in england... i should film it and send it to milan, say: get your players doing this, build up some respect between the two parties....
robbieLOVESthealmightylcfc Posted 12 April 2008 Posted 12 April 2008 It ain't ovet til it's over. exactly, its too tight to say were going down at this satge ffs were not even in the drop zone up dum asses
Fox You Forest Posted 12 April 2008 Posted 12 April 2008 If we do go down the person i will feel really bad for is Max Gradel had a blinding season in League 1 he has probably been looking forward to playing for Leicester at a higher standard but could find himself playing in League 1 for another season. * Thats apart from all the obvious. Fingers crossed it wont happen and i dont believe it will despite what Ultra may think. " "
