Horrible times for all of the families effected by this.

Watching This Morning earlier on and she lost her two daughters, one was 15 and the other 19. That is awful!

Isnt there a program on The History channel about it all tonight?

Looks quite good.

There is, yeah.

I'm sure it'll be an accurate, completely unbias program as well.

>_<

Tomorrow night.

Shit, yeah.

Wouldn't be very good if it clashed with their Champs League coverage.

Or they put the programme on about Hillborough on the actual date of it? :dunno:

:( I remember this so well, I cannot believe it is 20 years tomorrow. I was 14 and had just come in from my paper round and my mum was stood ironing with the telly on and just said 'something terrible is happening' I just sat down and watched as the horror unfolded.

Truly, truly awful. I bet it's as real for the families and those involved now as it was then. Seeing Alan Hansen on MOTD on Saturday looking a shadow of his former self whilst he talked us through his memories of what happened underlines that.

You just can't fail to be affected by this, it could have happened anywhere and to anyone.

11 May 1985

Bradford City v Lincoln City

A stray lit cigarette stub ignited a wooden terrace section at Valley Parade.

Fire soon engulfed the stand, causing 56 people to lose their lives in one of the worst tragedies in English football.

Goodness me I was 9 when this happened. It was live on telly and I watched it around my Gran and Grandads house, my Grandad was blind and I distinctly remember saying 'Grandad! That man is on fire, why is he on fire?' Of course he didn't believe me and why would he?

I think that awful image will stay with me forever.

One of the lesser talked about tragedies but a tragedy none the less.

Terrible to see the scenes of the tragedy and hear the stories of people there on the day and the families affected.

I do hope that safe standing is introduced however, using Germany as an example of how its been used and bolstered atmospheres goes a long way to showing that it can be done.

If its the Jimmy McGovern / Christopher Eccleston documentary/re-enactment from the mid-90s, after the police tried to complain about it, it was deemed to be factual other than insinuating that there was planning in that times of death were not accurately recorded, after they all came back as - even in the case of a kid who was seen alive after that point , where it was ruled that although potentially inaccurately recorded, there was no evidence of it being falsified. Every other part was basically confirmed as accurate.

Now will someone do the decent thing and give us all an inquiry.

..and this time, make it a proper one which will hold the authorities, including the police, the FA and Sheffield Wednesday, to account for their role in these atrocities.

Justice has been delayed for too long - let's make sure it isn't denied.

I'm mildly obsessed about the Hillsborough Disaster. Think it's diabolical that no-one has been brought to justice, but what can you do? Hard to prove manslaughter.

It's the one day of the year where I feel sorry for Liverpool supporters.

Can I ask why it is that an inquiry is still wanted?

This was a tragic event, an appalling accident. Everyone knows the police, ****ed up in the most horrific way. Their planning was poor, such that they did not take account of the numbers and last minute surges by fans. The old stadium and the fencing around the terraces were a death-trap. The communication was poor, resulting in a poor response to the incident. There were many breakdowns in the decision making process and the response by officers. However, the decision to open the gates was not taken by an officer intent on evil and that should be remembered. It was an accident pure and simple and could have been in any stadium in England, so we've got to be careful blaming Sheffield Wednesday or the police.

With the Taylor report, we now have the safest stadia in Europe. Our policing at football matches, despite them being pains in the *rses is amongst the best in Europe (You only have to watch some of the European games to see how fans get treated). For me, the Taylor report was the inquiry.

So I'm not really sure what justice a new inquiry can bring, or what it will tell us that we don't already know.

No such thing as safe standing and people must sit down in seated stadia .

This is a memorial service for the 96 , not a platform to discuss these issues
