Ben Alnwick makes his return for the Foxes after recovering from a thigh injury while England Under-21 international Joe Mattock, Wesh Under-21 midfielder Andy King and Hungarians Gabor Bori and Zsolt Lackso will also feature. Lathanial Rowe-Turner, Craig King and Ricky Sappleton are also named in the starting line-up ahead of the Academy's final game of the season against Chelsea on Saturday. Leicester City: Alnwick, J Chambers, Mattock, A King, Worley, Rowe-Turner, Bori, Kishishev, Sappleton, C King, Laczko Subs: Pentney, Magunda, Beswick, Cox, Garner
Sods Posted 16 April 2008 Posted 16 April 2008 Looks to me like Joey won't play on Saturday then. Easily his best game last season was Barnsley away.
Mark Posted 16 April 2008 Posted 16 April 2008 What on earth is Ollie playing at, Reserve team football for Mattock now?
Ric Flair Posted 16 April 2008 Posted 16 April 2008 What on earth is Ollie playing at, Reserve team football for Mattock now? It really is disgusting. It's the final straw for me. Get rid of him, the man is a moron. Mattock has been getting better and better in recent weeks going forward and finally starting to become more consistent. Clapham has looked a yard off the pace and been in and out through injury for the past 2 months now. Mindless stuff. Quite a strong reserve team though, no McKay or Chambers though.
Mark Posted 16 April 2008 Posted 16 April 2008 Beswick and Laczko usually take up the left side anyway don't they? He's no need to be playing Mattock and that's him off in the Summer whether we stay up or not now. Weso and Mattock have both influenced the team in recent seasons in staying up and now they're nowhere to be seen.

Mattock has been one of our better players this season, he should be playing for the first team.

I'd also add that King has never let the team down when he's been called into action this season but since Holloway's arrival doesn't seem to get a look in.

Mattock didn't play on Saturday so that might be due to an injury. If that's right, he's probably just building his fitness back up for Saturdays game. Mattock shouldn't be playing reserve football, he's arguably our best left back at the moment.

Possible I suppose but Holloway has chosen Clapham ahead of him before just the same as he chooses Oakley/Clemence ahead of Weso.

Perhaps saved for the Chelsea Academy match as our chance of finishing second ahead of Spurs seems to be slipping after last week's 1-0 defeat by Fulham.

I doubt he needs to regain fitness after missing just one game

Bert Posted 16 April 2008 Posted 16 April 2008 Beswick can't even start for the rezzies - And he's being touted for a first team spot?
Thracian Posted 16 April 2008 Posted 16 April 2008 Beswick can't even start for the rezzies - And he's being touted for a first team spot? If you ever went you'd realise they often rotate players and, like McKay, Beswick may still qualify for the Academy side against Chelsea Saturday. Assuming of course that he's not being held to one side as an option for the first team cos we don't have many/any specialist left wingers. I, and one or two more now, have touted Beswick not because I think he's the greatest winger ever or the finished article but because we need to score some goals and someone needs to deliver the free-kicks and final passes that might produce em. While others have tried and largely failed or been packed off elsewhere, Beswick has been ignored. If you can think of better for those particular jobs I can't wait to hear about him.

What a fucking overreaction. For all you know he's only getting 45 minutes ready for Saturday.
Ric Flair Posted 16 April 2008 Posted 16 April 2008 What a fucking overreaction. For all you know he's only getting 45 minutes ready for Saturday. I would have considered that, had I not been told by someone who know's Joe Mattock that Joe was dropped for absolutely no reason on Saturday, so he's fully fit. Therefore why would one need 45 in preperation for Saturday?.
Bert Posted 16 April 2008 Posted 16 April 2008 What a fucking overreaction. For all you know he's only getting 45 minutes ready for Saturday. Yes, that's why the previously injured Jamie Clapham came straight back into the starting line-up.
davieG Posted 16 April 2008 Author Posted 16 April 2008 From The Albion OS Albion Res 0 Leicester Res 3 Posted on: Wed 16 Apr 2008 ALBION reserves conceded penalties at either end of the game as they were beaten 3-0 by Leicester City at The Hawthorns. The Baggies fielded a side containing four senior pros but Bostjan Cesar was removed from the original starting XI and left out altogether, Youngster James Hancox slotted in at centre-half, with Ashley Holmes taking his place on the bench. The Baggies found themselves a goal down as early as the ninth minute when a long crossfield ball from the left found Gabor Bori and he burst into the box. Tininho challenged the Foxes midfielder and appeared to get a touch on the ball but the referee awarded a spot-kick, which Reniel Sappleton slotted home to Michal Danek's right. Ten minutes later Lateef Elford-Alliyu found Josh Knight down the left and he cut inside before firing a right-foot shot just wide of the far post. A game of little action eventually saw Tininho find Sherjill MacDonald down the left and he rounded former Baggie James Chambers before bursting into the area and firing in a low six-yard shot from an acute angle. Ben Alnwick took the pace off the Albion ace's strike with his legs but the City goalkeeper needed Lathanial Rowe-Turner to clear the ball of the goalline. Six minutes before the break a neat interchange of passes between MacDonald and Elford-Alliyu resulted in MacDonald chipping the ball to the back post where Knight and David Worrall both came within inches of sliding it in. MacDonald was in the action again in the 55th minute as he picked the ball up on the halfway line and bundled his way past four challenges before shooting wide of the left-hand upright from just outside the box. Two minutes later MacDonald crossed for substitute Ricky Nicholls, whose shot cannoned off a Leicester defender and raised cries of handball from the hosts that were dismissed. Jared Hodgkiss pounced on the rebound but fired straight at Alnwick. Eight minutes from time Gary Breen's clearance fell to Ryan Beswick and he squared for Andy King, who struck an 18-yard shot past Danek to double the visitors' lead. And Breen's night went from bad to worse in the 86th minute when he inexplicably handled the ball from a cross to give Zsolt Laczko the chance to fire home the second penalty of the night to Danek's left. ALBION (4-4-2): Danek; Hodgkiss, Breen, Hancox (Holmes 78), Tininho; MacDonald, Labadie (Nicholls HT), Worrall, Compton; Knight (Samuels HT), Elford-Alliyu. Subs not used: Pike, Saied. LEICESTER (4-4-2): Alnwick; Chambers, A King (Beswick 60), Worley, Mattock (Magunda 60); Bori, Rowe-Turner, Kishishev, Laczko; Sappleton (Cox 79), C King. Subs not used: Petney.
