General Smuts Posted 5 May 2008 Posted 5 May 2008 Can we not just have one thread of New Manager Options?
JoeyB Posted 5 May 2008 Posted 5 May 2008 Jose Mourhino Even Better Choice :thumb: I for one would like Dowie, no one wanted Warnock and he did well, maybe Dowie will do well as no one wants him Dont forget he did well at oldham at this level, he got Palace promoted to the prem from bottom 3 in champ, and did well at cov untill they withdrew money
Ajax Treesdown Posted 5 May 2008 Author Posted 5 May 2008 Can we not just have one thread of New Manager Options? Nah!!
Zingari Posted 5 May 2008 Posted 5 May 2008 fairly sure he is one of the few that would take the job , slight worry about his confrontational style though, but i'd like to see him back here
Basingstoke Fox Posted 5 May 2008 Posted 5 May 2008 Not particularly keen, Im one of the people who would like Ince, I think he would come to us but anyway Newell could actually be a good choice but he did turn us down a couple of years ago
Basingstoke Fox Posted 5 May 2008 Posted 5 May 2008 Yes please. I think thats the shortest post Ive ever seen from you
Koke Posted 5 May 2008 Posted 5 May 2008 Yes please. I concur 1 - He got a good footballing philosophy. His teams play good passing football 2 - He plays youngsters and he's got an eye for talents. Yes please.
Webbo Posted 5 May 2008 Posted 5 May 2008 Milan's had 3 opportunities to appoint Newell and hasn't, even though he was unemployed and we wouldn't need to pay compo to his club, That should tell you what his chances are. Personally I think his stance against bungs might be a problem.
Uncle Albert Posted 5 May 2008 Posted 5 May 2008 Can we not just have one thread of New Manager Options? Here You Are General
The Reverend Posted 5 May 2008 Posted 5 May 2008 Milan's had 3 opportunities to appoint Newell and hasn't, even though he was unemployed and we wouldn't need to pay compo to his club, That should tell you what his chances are.Personally I think his stance against bungs might be a problem. I wanted him when he was first linked. Good manager at Championship level, so we could do with him in League 1.
filbertway Posted 5 May 2008 Posted 5 May 2008 Thracian why don't you apply when it becomes vacant It's win win for us then, we'll hav sexy free flowing football, or it'll shut you up
MPH Posted 5 May 2008 Posted 5 May 2008 Thracian why don't you apply when it becomes vacant It's win win for us then, we'll hav sexy free flowing football, or it'll shut you up we would need nappy changing facilities in the Home dressing room...
daveyboy Posted 5 May 2008 Posted 5 May 2008 Good record and all that... Would be a great choice in my opinion!
filbertway Posted 5 May 2008 Posted 5 May 2008 Appointing him would go down well with the female fans... Thracian?
Ultra Posted 5 May 2008 Posted 5 May 2008 He also got the best out of Howard and Bell when he was at Luton. Shame their present manager couldn't do so..
Ultra Posted 5 May 2008 Posted 5 May 2008 Not particularly keen, Im one of the people who would like Ince, I think he would come to us but anyway Newell could actually be a good choice but he did turn us down a couple of years ago ...when Luton were above us in the league, and there was talk of them moving to a new stadium. In order to keep Newell, the then Luton chairman made a number of promises which he then failed to keep. If Mandaric takes more of a back-seat role next season (which may well happen for business and health reasons), Newell could well be tempted to come here.
l444ry Posted 5 May 2008 Posted 5 May 2008 Not sure if he's just another Ian Holloway type manager, in that he is flattered by his relative achievements at "smaller" clubs. He nearly threw away a 16 point lead at Hartlepool (gained by Chris Turner) before falling out with his chairman. His record of achievement at Luton was no better than Holloway's at Bristol Rovers, Plymouth and Q.P.R. And he then fell out with their chairman again. This serial falling out with chairmen doesn't bode well for any relationship with Milan Mandaric. Personally, I think it would be preferable to go down the Martin George route - a young, hungry manager, on the way up and unsoiled by any failure.
wurmer Posted 5 May 2008 Posted 5 May 2008 I don't think that Newell and Mandaric would be compatible.. Considering Mandaric's current pending legal issues over alleged irregularities regarding transfer payments, and Newell's vocal claims of bungs and fraud in the game - this isn't gonna happen...
breadandcheese Posted 5 May 2008 Posted 5 May 2008 Personally, I think it would be preferable to go down the Martin George route - a young, hungry manager, on the way up and unsoiled by any failure. I'm banging the Paul Lambert drum* *Although I wouldn't mind Newell or Steve Tilson.
Webbo Posted 5 May 2008 Posted 5 May 2008 I'm banging the Paul Lambert drum* Didn't we go down the up and coming Scottish manager route with Levein?
