Floating Fox Posted 24 June 2008 Posted 24 June 2008 To be honest I'd be surprised if the club were willing to pay for something like that. Unnecessary expenses (however much they will be welcomed by supporters) are probably a no go area following relegation... Yeah they said the same the past 2 years, we've had meetings with them. They hate the fact that no-one brings those flags they handed out to games anymore. Shame on you all.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 24 June 2008 Posted 24 June 2008 Why dont we ask the club to buy us a giant Leicester shirt? Couldn't we just use Rab's from last season?
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 24 June 2008 Posted 24 June 2008 Oh - and I'd chip in £10 to the fund - no more mind! And when it's done with - will the flag be cut up into equal peices and our bit distributed to us?
lavrentis Posted 25 June 2008 Posted 25 June 2008 Yeah they said the same the past 2 years, we've had meetings with them. They hate the fact that no-one brings those flags they handed out to games anymore. Shame on you all. The small ones like at Chelsea, I will cry if we get like that.
James. Posted 25 June 2008 Posted 25 June 2008 Just got off the phone to Peter Jones. Nice chap and very receptive to the idea. Main issues as follows: 1. Fire safety. Safety officers have to be reassured that the material will not catch fire. Seems like a fairly easy problem to overcome as the manufacturer will surely be able to guarantee this. 2. Location. I suggested the top left corner as you look out from the Kop. Here it is in view of the away fans, L1, the Kop, etc and also in an area that is often sparsely populated (apparently that section is used for people using the restaurant but Peter wasn't expecting that restaurant to be particularly busy next season..!). 3. Size and shape: The key issue is to find the section of the ground where the flag is going to go and base the shape of it on that. There's no point having a giant square flag if the section of stand is triangular, circular, etc. Peter said he is happy for us to go into the stadium to discuss possible areas, sizes and shapes. 4. Static/moving. The problem with passing the flag over the crowd is that you will reach areas where there just isn’t the volume of people to keep it going. Peter was fine with the idea in theory but as Fez has said in practice it may not be feasible. 5. Cost. Peter confirmed by suspicions that the club would be unlikely to provide any funding for this. He did mention the possibility of an auction of signed shirts, etc but to be honest I think we're best off doing the funding ourselves through Foxestalk and maybe Talking Balls. Next steps: this needs to be discussed in person. Peter said he will be around over the next few weeks and is more than happy to stay behind after work to discuss this with Fez and whoever else wants to go along. Difficult for me as I'm in London. Encouraging conversation overall. I know people are very wary of going through the club for things like this and also are a little disillusioned after N Block. But this is a relatively simple idea to implement and I think with some more discussion face to face it's something we can have in place for next season.
Monk Posted 25 June 2008 Posted 25 June 2008 Thats great work James thanks for doing that. Did you discuss taking the flag to away games also? Would a triangular flag really work at another ground?

Would a triangular flag really work at another ground? Again, nice stuff James... Getting the club to help us get it into away games is an important issue, I think.. To be honest, passing it over the heads isn't really needed, the old one was shit (That was mainly because it had a giant sponser on it ) when the "kop" was 3/4 full, it won't even be half full for most games this year. Having its own spot in the ground would be nice. Maybe if Fez gave the full dimensions to PJ, he could see what area of the ground we could put it in?

I think it may be more a case of finding the area where it'll go and then basing the dimensions on that... as opposed to the other way round. I didn't mention the away game thing but I'm not sure as to what role the club would play. If we take it to an away game it's only going to be the safety stewards there that we have to contend with, right? And as long as it's fire resistant we should be ok. It's a fair point though so Fez can raise that when he speaks to Peter.

Yeah but if the club helped us like the do with Jobbers drum sometimes by contacting their H&S numpties then it would help imo...
Fez of Mahrez Posted 25 June 2008 Posted 25 June 2008 Any news from the club yet? I'm going to follow up JTB's call to Peter Jones with an email tomorrow morning and try to arrange a meeting with him next week. Just to clarify as well, the club will NOT be contributing anything financially. To be honest I wouldn't even want them to.
James. Posted 30 June 2008 Posted 30 June 2008 Just heard from Fez, he's meeting Jonesy at 5pm on Thursday to discuss all things flag-related... Fingers crossed we keep the momentum going.
Mickey O'Neil Posted 1 July 2008 Posted 1 July 2008 Just heard from Fez, he's meeting Jonesy at 5pm on Thursday to discuss all things flag-related... Fingers crossed we keep the momentum going. Tell Fez to plant the seed for a red kit for the 2009/10 season
