Alexikokopops Posted 30 March 2009 Posted 30 March 2009 Finished in 2:30 or thereabouts. My knee gave out after 5 miles. Then my hip after 7 and then the arch of my foot after 9. Really pleased I made it to the end as I was in a lot of pain for the majority of the race. This morning I am in fcking agony, came back from Reading on the train this morning - changing on the underground at Oxford Circus where there are no escalators was particularly painful! Still, I am well up for another one as if I don't have an injury I should be able to beat that time by a good 20 minutes - energy levels were good throughout. Thinking of doing the Royal parks half in October - any interest? Raised £950 in the end for the British Kidney Patients association - awesome. Bloody hell, good effort! I reckon you could get under the 2 hour mark if you were fully fit
General Smuts Posted 30 March 2009 Posted 30 March 2009 Congrats Monk! I wish i had the balls to do a half let alone a full Marathon. I've been saying for years how much i want to do the London Marathon but i'd need someone to hold my hand i think.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 30 March 2009 Posted 30 March 2009 Bloody hell, good effort! I reckon you could get under the 2 hour mark if you were fully fit If I can, anyone can
Guest Posted 30 March 2009 Posted 30 March 2009 Well done Monk It's a cracking feeling when you've finished ain't it? We went straight down the pub after we did the Leics half last year, undid all the good work of the previous 2 hours of running by caning 6 pints of Guinness Does anybody fancy getting an FT group together to do a half or 10K sometime?
Alexikokopops Posted 30 March 2009 Posted 30 March 2009 If I can, anyone can That was my thinking I also managed to pull a calf muscle so I couldn't run for the few weeks before AND fall over on the one run I managed in that time and get an infection in my hand. Shambles!
Monk Posted 30 March 2009 Posted 30 March 2009 Thanks - yeah it's a great feeling crossing that line (despite the first few steps after I stopped running when I realised how fcked my knee was). Sounds like a decent idea - It would either have to be in Leicestershire or London though. Went to an all you can eat Chinese last night - I don't think they'd budgeted me into the £13.50 price tag. Let's just say there's significantly fewer ducks around this morning.
James. Posted 30 March 2009 Author Posted 30 March 2009 Does anybody fancy getting an FT group together to do a half or 10K sometime? I'm up for that.
Alexikokopops Posted 30 March 2009 Posted 30 March 2009 I'm up for that. Me too. Lets keep it to us three (and Monk) so we don't have to leave London.
Guest Posted 30 March 2009 Posted 30 March 2009 Cool. That's a few of us and I'm sure lots more would be up for it. If we get some names who are definites then look into doing one later in the year, and decide on which location so we've all got time to plan ahead for it. I reckon we could raise a fair bit for charity
James. Posted 30 March 2009 Author Posted 30 March 2009 Windsor could be worth a go? Really nice course, good atmosphere, mid-late September...
Guest Posted 30 March 2009 Posted 30 March 2009 Me too. Lets keep it to us three (and Monk) so we don't have to leave London. It's a local run, for local people.
Monk Posted 30 March 2009 Posted 30 March 2009 I'm up for Windsor, but if you want to make it a 10k so more FTers could get involved it could be more fun.
James. Posted 30 March 2009 Author Posted 30 March 2009 I'm up for Windsor, but if you want to make it a 10k so more FTers could get involved it could be more fun. I think anyone who is determined enough could be ready to a half marathon in September.
General Smuts Posted 30 March 2009 Posted 30 March 2009 I think anyone who is determined enough could be ready to a half marathon in September. Im in especially if its in London.
Guest Posted 30 March 2009 Posted 30 March 2009 I'm up for Windsor, but if you want to make it a 10k so more FTers could get involved it could be more fun. Good point. There's the Great Capital Run in July Great Capital Run EDIT: shall we get some kind of poll/signup going to see who's definitely up for this? Then we can see who's more interested in 10K/Half Marathon and see what the consesus is as to which we prefer.
Monk Posted 30 March 2009 Posted 30 March 2009 I think anyone who is determined enough could be ready to a half marathon in September. Yeah, and it gives my knee chance to recover!
General Smuts Posted 30 March 2009 Posted 30 March 2009 I really need to start running again. This would be the perfect excuse.
Guest Posted 30 March 2009 Posted 30 March 2009 Well done Monk, you've done us proud! Me too. Lets keep it to us three (and Monk) so we don't have to leave London. Midlandists.
Alexikokopops Posted 30 March 2009 Posted 30 March 2009 Midlandists. It's not my fault we're of a higher social standing than the hoi polloi
Guest Posted 30 March 2009 Posted 30 March 2009 It's not my fault we're of a higher social standing than the hoi polloi You keep telling yourself that.
Alexikokopops Posted 30 March 2009 Posted 30 March 2009 You keep telling yourself that. I'm sorry but all correspondance must come through my butler.
Guest Posted 30 March 2009 Posted 30 March 2009 I'm sorry but all correspondance must come through my butler. I hate you, Butler.
Wezleylowski Posted 30 March 2009 Posted 30 March 2009 Can anybody recommend some decent running shoes?
Guest Posted 30 March 2009 Posted 30 March 2009 Can anybody recommend some decent running shoes? I've been advised to get a gait analysis done. A lot of my friends who run say that it's worth the money to find out which running trainers are best suited to your particular feet. I've generally been running in Asics for a while but not really checked whether I may be able to get some beter priced and more suitable footwear Maybe Lisa or one of the other runners who've been doing this a bit longer than me may be able to give a bit more insight on this
