Corky Posted 1 March 2009 Posted 1 March 2009 I normally run around for a bit on Thursday nights, really can't be bothered to stick to any sort of routine. You're not along in not being arsed Joey.
Guest Posted 1 March 2009 Posted 1 March 2009 I bet you didn't have brown wee at the end of it.I planned to go that far! I had some Gatorade with me, but didn't wee for a good couple of hours afterwards

JoeyB Posted 1 March 2009 Posted 1 March 2009 I can run up and down the stairs fine, but when it gets to something a bit more than 10 yards i get tired and out of breath

Monk Posted 2 March 2009 Posted 2 March 2009 Hope the training is still going well. Thanks so much for the sponsorship Lisa! Also thanks to Nathko Darkervic, Alex, James and Nationwider for their support, it really is appreciated. Training has been difficult because of the knee, went for an 8 mile run yesterday, longest in about a month and really hurt my knee. I'm in a LOT of pain this morning and seriously quite worried about competing at Reading in 4 weeks... not great. There's a specialist running shop in Canary Wharf so I think I will go down there, get a support and some ultra cushioned shoes. Will rest it for a few days but not a lot else I can do I guess.

Guest Posted 2 March 2009 Posted 2 March 2009 That's a real shame, I hope it sorts itself out. I had a scare with my knee before the marathon, but thankfully I recovered quickly. Hope it's the same for you
Dr The Singh Posted 2 March 2009 Posted 2 March 2009 I've been jogging for about 3 months, and I generally have weak 'groins', lately one of my groins has become sore, is there any thing I can do to limit the soreness????

Limit your 'exercises' between running. I ran about 20 miles last week. Have just spent over £150 on proper running gear, it makes SUCH a difference

Bluefoxtim Posted 3 March 2009 Posted 3 March 2009 First time I have had experienced running in the rain and the wind. Fudge me! 4 miles felt like 8! So hard to breath with the wind just pushing you back

Some people would probably pay money for that, mind

Monk Posted 4 March 2009 Posted 4 March 2009 James - tell you what, I'll limp the race with my screwed knee and you can walk with a few packs of fags along the way. We should set a similar time I imagine. Furthest I have run is 9 miles, that was a while back, furthest recently is 8 miles but I was in agony after that. Off to the running shop in Canary Wharf now on my way home to get some advice.
Bluefoxtim Posted 5 March 2009 Posted 5 March 2009 Back from a run, 8.23 miles to be precise. Done in just over an hour. Well pleased with that Done very little training and the great north run is months away. Am I being cocky to say that it's gonna be piece of cake? ...I'll tear some ligaments now eh...

Sounds like you're well on course, although apparently the GNR is a tough course. Some hill work and shit like that would probably be a good idea. Monk - I ran home from work this evening, only 4km and I ran pretty quickly but it wasn't as easy as it should have been. Close to dropping out of Reading to be honest, just not had the time to put in the mileage. Will see how this weekend goes.

James. Posted 29 March 2009 Author Posted 29 March 2009 Monk! How did you get on? I actually went for a run today to try and clear the guilt of laming out of the Reading half. Did about 10km in 55 minutes or so and it felt surprisingly easy... maybe I should have done it after all. Signing up for Windsor though, you should do that one.

My knee gave out after 5 miles. Then my hip after 7 and then the arch of my foot after 9. Really pleased I made it to the end as I was in a lot of pain for the majority of the race. This morning I am in fcking agony, came back from Reading on the train this morning - changing on the underground at Oxford Circus where there are no escalators was particularly painful! Still, I am well up for another one as if I don't have an injury I should be able to beat that time by a good 20 minutes - energy levels were good throughout. Thinking of doing the Royal parks half in October - any interest? Raised £950 in the end for the British Kidney Patients association - awesome.

Through the pain barrier and some by the sound of it. Great fundraising effort as well. I'm going to do Windsor again this September... you should do that, it's a fantastic course and atmosphere. Speaking to a mate of mine who did Reading he said the atmosphere was pretty poor and it was a bit too busy.

Brilliant effort to get round with all that going on, and well done on the cash raised
Monk Posted 30 March 2009 Posted 30 March 2009 It was my first 'competitive' run, and my longest run before Sunday was 9 miles back in January. Since then I have struggled to train through injury. I knew it was going to be painful so I just set out to get to finish line regardless of time. I was so nervous before the start for so many reasons. I really have never been fit at all and to prove to yourself that you can get around a 13 mile circuit at all given how ill I have been in the past is an achievement up there with getting a degree for me anyhow. I really enjoyed the day out and will definitely keep on running. Thanks to everyone who has offered sponsorship, advice and encouragement over the past few months it really made a difference!
