FoxesAreBlue Posted 28 August 2012 Posted 28 August 2012 There is something wrong. I don't know why, but at the minute I am completely fed up with the marathon training, I've read all the books and they all have the same advice about remember the reasons why I'm running and it's not something that everybody could do blah blah blah.... Change the record. I have quite a mixed bag of training sessions planned; fartlek, hills, sprint intervals, cruise intervals, strides, long runs and loads of cross training too; On the bike, elliptical, in the pool etc but all I want is the next two races out of the way so I can put my feet up. I recently went down to Saffron Lane for a few laps of the track and wouldn't mind having a pop at the 400m next season, I'm VERY slow at the minute but I think I would enjoy the training for the 400m more than I am the longer distances at the minute - and I can always come back to marathons later in life. EDIT: My 400 pb is 1:10 BUT the first week I went I had already ran 12 miles that morning and the second time I was suffering from DOMS from a heavy leg session two days before. This week I'm expecting to beat that.

Long bike ride/short run, mid distance run, football and then my weekend long run.
Guest Col city fan Posted 29 August 2012 Posted 29 August 2012 Was speaking to a chap earlier who does triathlons. Not in any professional way but just for fun! He told me theres a shop on Clarendon park road (that I didn't know about) that gets you on a treadmill and plays back the film of you running. In this way, the machine analyses your 'gait'. You can then get exactly the best pair of running shoes that meet your needs according to how you run. Just thought id share this..

It's called a Gait Analysis, and pretty much all running shops provide this service (and by running shops I don't mean sportsdirect!)

Could be, my running week kind of resembles this at the minute: Monday: Rest/Crosstrain Tuesday: Hills/Fartlek either 60 mins or 8-10miles Weds: Crosstrain Thurs: as Tuesday plus Intervals at Saff lane Stadium Friday: Crosstrain and 4-5 miles nice and slow Sat: Rest Sun: Long Run
leicesterisme Posted 30 August 2012 Posted 30 August 2012 Did 5k yesterday, was a real struggle to be honest, I was really up for it before aswell. (Which is very strange for me) Did exactly the same route today, really could not be arsed... It was an absolute stroll
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 1 September 2012 Posted 1 September 2012 Did my first ever 10km run today, really stoked as i did it after a few beers last night and it was freezing. Twanged my calf just before the 3km mark but just pushed thru it. Time was slow 1hr 04mins but i'm over the moon i got thru it as 2 months ago i battled to run a km with out stopping. Super sore now and it may ruin my dance moves tonight.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 1 September 2012 Posted 1 September 2012 Good work, you'll never forget your first race, even of its also your last! Just on the 4:30 bus to London to do a course in Running today looking at diagnosing gait analysis, writing programmes for marathons, training approaches etc should be good! Cocked up though because I bought my bus ticket for the wrong day so it's cost me an extra £32 ffs

I've done one race before (Coventry half marathon FIVE YEARS AGO) so it will be good to get back on the horse.
Guest Posted 1 September 2012 Posted 1 September 2012 I think you're supposed to use your own legs, Koko, using a horse would be cheating.
Alexikokopops Posted 1 September 2012 Posted 1 September 2012 I think you're supposed to use your own legs, Koko, using a horse would be cheating. Hampered by the fact that I'm allergic to horses. I really haven't thought this through have I?
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 1 September 2012 Posted 1 September 2012 The thing i'm pleased the most about is i did it on my own and with no ipod, i thought i was mentally weak and my mind was telling me to stop after 3 minutes. when my calves packed in the inner voices were louder and louder. Managed to just keep going and going. Never thought it was possible to run non stop for over an hour but i was wrong now pretty confident. Also luckly my mum is a sports remedial massues so got the calves and lower back worked on, she said my calves were the tightest calves she has ever encounted in her whole career could be in even more pain tomorrow.
Bluefoxtim Posted 1 September 2012 Posted 1 September 2012 Just back from a 20 miler to equal my furthest ever distance. 2 hours 52 minutes. Quite happy with that. Hoping to squeeze under 3:45 for the full.
danny. Posted 1 September 2012 Posted 1 September 2012 I've had to stop training for the Leicester Marathon as ended up at a&e and then Glenfield cardio for a few days last week, something up with my heart. They told me I can't do the Marathon They didn't mention the half though...
James. Posted 1 September 2012 Author Posted 1 September 2012 Did my quickest 10km for ages today. 46:40. Not exactly earth shattering but nice to know the training is going in the right direction. I reckon I'll be able to do sub 45 by the end of the year.

I reckon I'll be able to do sub 45 by the end of the year. Good work. I'm doing a 10k tomorrow down Regent's Park and hoping for sub 50 mins. That said it's my first race since a half I did 5 years ago so we'll see how it goes. And Danny, sorry to hear that!
FoxesAreBlue Posted 1 September 2012 Posted 1 September 2012 Just been in Regents Park today doing a running coaching qualification! 1st time in London as an adult apart from the marathon. Visiting a mate tonight who lives just outside the Olympic park too, the stadium looks Huge! Sorry to hear about the old ticker Danny. Is it something that can be fixed?

You should have popped along this morning!
Nick Posted 2 September 2012 Posted 2 September 2012 I did it in 47:42 by my timing. I'm pretty pleased since it's my first race in five years! Well done mate - good going.
Vacamion Posted 2 September 2012 Posted 2 September 2012 You chaps run at light speed compared to me. Great Scottish Run this morning - I lugged my lardy ass round iin 1hr 5mins or so... Now off to rest, ice, compress and elevate those achilles tendons.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 2 September 2012 Posted 2 September 2012 You should have popped along this morning! Couldn't I'm afraid, I had to come back to Leicester although after yesterday's nightmare journey home I wish I had stayed! Learnt a lot on the course yesterday about different schools of thought on running and did quite a bit of analysis of running styles, certainly gave a quite a bit to think about. Did you know that there have been a number of studies and they have found that no matter what speed you run at the most efficient cadence is 90 steps per minute? We tested each other without knowing this fact beforehand and my cadence was around 97spm.
SemperEadem Posted 2 September 2012 Posted 2 September 2012 Did my first 10 k today in Sheffield, 51.05 well happy with that!
FoxesAreBlue Posted 13 September 2012 Posted 13 September 2012 3 days before a fuggin big race (GNR) and I've gone a pulled my shoulder teaching a fitness class. TWAT. lots of ice gone into the freezer today.
Uncle Phil Posted 13 September 2012 Posted 13 September 2012 Knocked 9 minutes off of my 3 mile route. Finally acclimatising to those Devon hills. Chuffed.
Bluefoxtim Posted 16 September 2012 Posted 16 September 2012 How did the GNR'ners get on today then? I got 1:28:43. Quite happy with that considering my lack of speedwork recently.
