FoxesAreBlue Posted 5 January 2013 Posted 5 January 2013 Did Brauny parkrun today for the first time since last April. Was good toget down again and I'm going to try and do more this year. Took the first lap slow as I turned up late and didn't have a chance to warm up but accidentally stopped my stopwatch when I checked it at the end of the first lap (12mins) so no idea what my time was. I would hazard a guess as 23mins as I sped up for the 2nd half.
Vacamion Posted 5 January 2013 Posted 5 January 2013 Ah, Brauny parkrun - I still feel a bit sick when I think of that blummin' hill in the middle of it. If you've never run it before, it kind of takes you by surprise. Today was "new years resolution" day at parkrun in Glasgow... Numbers were WELL up. I hope their determination to get fit lasts.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 6 January 2013 Posted 6 January 2013 Turns out my time from yesterday was 21:53, not a pb but better than I thought, I beat a few with their 50 parkruns shirts too
FoxesAreBlue Posted 11 January 2013 Posted 11 January 2013 The ballot for the 2013 Great North Run is open. http://www.greatrun.org/events/event.aspx?id=1 If there was ever a big race which is great or beginners with a better atmosphere and bigger field than the London Marathon then this is it. The first time I ran it in 2011 ranks among one of my life highlights so far and 13.1miles is not impossible to train for even with the most hectic of lifestyles. Take the plunge and give it a go, the medal is worth your hard work and it's a cliché, but when you cross the finish line, even if you're in pain (which if youve trained, you wont be!) you will feel like a million quid.
Rincewind Posted 11 January 2013 Posted 11 January 2013 There is another cycling machine in the BHF shop I work in. Safe for pedestrians.
FoxyPV Posted 12 January 2013 Posted 12 January 2013 Found out the reason my tendon snapped in my groin, was because my left foot is flatter than my right, which has wrecked my back as well. I've to wait until 9th Jan until I can get my gait etc analysed. Grim. Found that my hips and pelvis has slightly rotated causing everything else to fvck up. Getting my rehab programme next Wed. It was an odd experience jogging on a treadmill with someone watching you, shaking their head and tutting.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 16 January 2013 Posted 16 January 2013 Been a bit lazy pre and post Xmas so looking at signing up to do some runs to help motivate me. So these are my rough plans 10km - On the Melbourne Grand Prix track a week before the race so all the stands etc will be up. (March) 13.4 km run against an old steam train....i wont beat the train as it finishes around 56minutes. Plus the course looks hilly as all hell. (May) Half Marathon - Around Melbourne finishing at the MCG. Think that would do me considering i've only done one 10km fun run in my life.
Alexikokopops Posted 16 January 2013 Posted 16 January 2013 Hope the rehab goes ok Foxy an good work ROOF. I started my marathon training on New Year's Day. This Sunday I've got to run 13 miles, which means next Sunday I'm going running the furthest I've ever run (which is currently 13.1 miles). It's starting to get real. Anyway, 6 miles to do on the way to work this morning if I ever get out of bed.

Someone told me that costs £50 to run, seems like a lot of money! Anyway i haven't done any running at all since early December and i'm doing a 10k with this club tonight, hope i survive!
Alexikokopops Posted 5 February 2013 Posted 5 February 2013 Got a bit of an iffy calf at the moment. Irritating. Haven't ran since Thursday. Had a bit if a go today but it still wasn't great. I could probably run the 3 miles home I was planning but figured the pain, while not debilitating (just mildly irritating), was probably telling me it wasn't a great idea.

It's worth every penny, and more, the GNR was my first "big race" and it is honestly one of life's highlights - and I've been lucky in the experiences I've had so far.
FoxyPV Posted 7 February 2013 Posted 7 February 2013 Been told I can start running again!! Woop woop!
ACF Posted 7 February 2013 Posted 7 February 2013 Been training for the football season coming up, finally cracked 5k the other day. I have problems with my breathing, can't slow it down whilst running, if anyone has a solution I would be extremely grateful.

I have problems with my breathing, can't slow it down whilst running, if anyone has a solution I would be extremely grateful. Just focus on it. I had to do that for a while, try and time it with movements of your arms or legs, like two arm swings breathe in, two more breathe out or whatever timing you want to do it. Worked for me

Worked for me Thanks for that mate, will try tomorrow! Seems I get more tired from breathing than the running, if that makes any sense whatsoever!

Run slower, the more you train the easier it gets, as you get fitter ease up the speed.
Charl91 Posted 7 February 2013 Posted 7 February 2013 Finally started running again after a 5 month break, so unfit at the moment. Worked out a 2.5 mile route for now, which I've a few times and I'm getting the old problems of sore shins and pain behind my right knee. Hopefully as I get more used to running again I'll get less injured.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 7 February 2013 Posted 7 February 2013 Trained at the track the other night in the pissy rain, felt very slow - I started out in the quicker group but dropped into the slower group. I ate late so got stitch for the first time in years - breathing was a struggle and as hard as I tried to catch the guy in front I simply could not get there. Poor session for me all round really. The session was: 200m 400m 1200m 1200m 400m 200m With 200m jog recoveries in between each distance

Hopefully as I get more used to running again I'll get less injured. Are you wearing the right trainers? Or are they old? Might be worth going to a specialist running shop and getting on a treadmill as you shouldn't really be getting pain. I used to have pains in my shins to the point I would have to stop and hobble home. When I went to get some new trainers, and after i had walked up and down the shop, the lady asked if my shins hurt. Surprised at her magical powers she pointed out that my feet rolled in so recommended some shoes where the insoles were built up to counteract this. I bought a pair of brooks and have never had the problem again over the 4 marathons and 1 half I've trained for and ran since.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 8 February 2013 Posted 8 February 2013 Got my 2nd ever 10km in 4 weeks and want to beat my time from the first one i did in October. Issue is i've been lazy and barely training but going to do a 10km and 5km this weekend and see how my times are going

Failing that see a podiatrists, as i've said numerous times before i had so many issues before i saw a podiatrist they work wonders.

Yeah, I did think it could be the trainers, but these ones are relatively new and designed for running, plus it's a problem I've had in quite a few different pairs. I think it must be a combination of being out of practice/unfit, running on tarmac and just being heavy in general - I'm about 14 stone and fairly broad since I normally weight lift rather than cardio, so not really built like a runner at all (unlike my brother who is practically an ethiopian). But if it continues it probably would be worth popping down to a specialist running shop, wouldn't suprise me if was my technique that's causing it. I got it in the first few weeks in the summer, but it went away after a while - hopefully the same will happen this time!
FoxyPV Posted 8 February 2013 Posted 8 February 2013 Been told I can start running again!! Woop woop! I am in horrendous amounts of pain.
Hinckley Fox 3 Posted 10 February 2013 Posted 10 February 2013 Got my first marathon coming up in April. I'm running it for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust who have kindly sent me a Tshirt to wear on the day, unfortunately it's cotton though so its going to be soaked through and heavy on the day. Was thinking of getting a heat base layer and wearing that beneath to try to make it a bit more comfortable but not sure if that'd actually be beneficial?
