Running and stuff

They generally don't, pisses me right off. Especially when you get 3-4 people just taking up the entire pavement and you just can't get past.

I usually just speed up and run at them or within a few inches, I suppose being 6'3" and 14.5 stone helps with this, although people still don't move half the time. I've clipped people so many times out running, it's ridiculous - gives me 'running rage'.

Pavement cyclists are the worst, particularly on blind corners. If I see them coming, I always make then move out of the way for me (unless its a designated shared use track) as they shouldn't even be on there in the first place. Pedestrians, particularly dog walkers seem quite happy to move aside and will even stop and move onto the verge to allow me space to get by near where I live.

Just in from a wee post work 5k trot...

if you breathe as heavily as I do (i was a smoker for 20 years) and are a bit of a fatty like me, people get out of your way cos they don't want to be the one that has to do CPR on you...

The only thing about VFFs is the sizing is REALLY important, as you wear them with no socks, so they have to fit perfectly. Also the sizing won't resemble your normal shoe size. My VFFs are size 45 (they are all only in euro sizing) which is about a 10.5, my shoes are all between 46-47 (11-12). So make sure you check the sizing guide and measure your feet super carefully - but it might be worth ordering from someone in the UK who do free/cheap returns in case you get the size wrong. Or if you go to London ever there are some places in Camden that sell them.

Do you have any names of places in Camden? I live quite nearby and might have a look.

Think it was Aldo on Neal street in Covent Garden I think

Yea they have a decent range, all full rrp unfortunately though. Also some people like vivobarefoot - they have a shop a few doors down, I prefer VFF myself for running, but vivo stuff is much cheaper.

Found out the reason my tendon snapped in my groin, was because my left foot is flatter than my right, which has wrecked my back as well.

I've to wait until 9th Jan until I can get my gait etc analysed.

Grim.

Sorry to hear man :(

You need to look into strengthening, you probably have a muscle imbalance - there should be exercises you can do to address it

Gait tests are (in my opinion) a waste of time and meaningless, as are things like support shoes, just address the physical problem and you will be fine

Just done my longest run....ever....I believe. 11km on the dot in 57.45 Pretty happy with that. Hit 10km at 52.08.

Wind was a bit of a bugger and Endomondo told me the route had 203m ascent and 152m descent. Don't know if a 50m difference is even that much tbh but it felt it :P Either way, really happy with that time and was pleased that I didn't struggle too much with the distance.

Anyone got any tips for lowering 10km time? Keep doing 10km~ runs and try and up the pace or mix it with some longer ones/shorter ones if possible?

EDIT: I did my words wrong!

Lot of hill sprints and interval sessions. They are great fun and will either make you feel like you are about to vomit, or many times actually make you vomit. Fun!

Going to run tomorrow. Went on Friday too. Wind is making it hard atm

Wind was a right pain in the arse today, all wide open where I live so it's a ****er. As soon as there were a few trees by the side of the road it felt twice as easy.

Today I did the thing that I swore I'd never do... I have bought some running tights.

I feel dirty inside.

I bet the first thing you did when you got home was to put them on in front of a mirror and admire yourself.

They are great for the cold weather.

That are quite simply amazing.

Anyway. This new year is but an hour old and it's time for us to lay our cards on the table. What I want to know are your running goals and (more importantly) how are you going to get there? I shall get the ball rolling...

This year I plan to run 3 Marathons, Edinburgh in May, Leicester in October and one abroad around the same time as one of the others - likely to be Athens. I would like to hit a sub3:30 and I'm going to do this by ensuring that I have better quality long runs, pay more attention to my pace (I'll need an accurate watch, I sold my crappy, inaccurate Soleus one) and sort out my nutrition as for a PT my diet has gone to pot the last two months - not good.

Secondary goals are the elusive sub20 5k and to enjoy the 1/2 marathons I have entered (L'bro, Silverstone and GNR) rather than race them. I wanna talk a newbie into joining me on one of them too.

Improve my times and distances basically, not sure what to though :P

I think a sub 45:00 10km would be a good start. Sub 22:00 5km as well. I'd also like to be able to run a half marathon (20km?) distance by the end of the first quarter, no time goals as yet.

Set my first goal for the year today after signing up for the Water of Life Half Marathon in Marlow on 24th March. Looks a cracking course. Aiming for 1:40, it's pretty flat but the mixed terrain may slow me down a bit.

I need some new running shoes... I normally go to Runners Need and get the latest version of the Brooks trainers I've been using for years. But I think I may benefit from buying some trail shoes (want to do more off road particularly as this half marathon is on mixed terrain). Firstly are trail shoes ok for using on the road? Or would I be better off buying normal running shoes and just doing the off road half marathon in them? Lastly can anyone recommend a decent website to get running shoes? I plan on getting a new gait analysis done in store (think my running form may have changed since I last did one) then buying the appropriate trainers online... Thanks all.
