Rocky Dennis Posted 28 May 2013 Posted 28 May 2013 Did London 10k Yesterday, my first ever 'proper' run 57m 40s. Really got the running bug now
FoxesAreBlue Posted 31 May 2013 Posted 31 May 2013 Did a slow recovery 2 miles today at 10min/mi pace and my legs STILL feel ruined from Sunday, that was a hell of a race, originally planned 10 days of recovery before training properly again but I think I'm going to have to extend it. Also, I have eaten some absolute shit this week, I swear I've put on a stone.
cambridgefox Posted 8 June 2013 Posted 8 June 2013 38:50 and a new PB. Wow,that is fast.Wife competed in her 1st 10k and was mid 50mins,nearly 20 mins quicker( checks calculator )she is 42. Anyway she as got in the London Marathon through Banardos £1600 to find mind you. Her mother and brothers went through Banardos so charity close to us,but probably not most people.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 8 June 2013 Posted 8 June 2013 Loughborough Half Marathon tomorrow. Praying for rain
FoxesAreBlue Posted 8 June 2013 Posted 8 June 2013 Loughborough Half Marathon tomorrow. Praying for rain I've dropped out of that, for me - I don't see the point in doing it when it was supposed to be a warm up for Edinburgh two weeks ago - in any case I have a track event instead now to get spanked in again. All the very best of luck though!

All the very best of luck though! Thanks, it's been a bit shit really. I simply don't have the self discipline to train as often as required. When we decided to do it- NYE, it only gave us 3 months to get ready. We had to train according to this program we'd found. We'd really nailed it, I was doing just over 10 miles in under 1hr 30mins. Since it got postponed though I've only ran about 5 times, twice of any distance. Its doubled the period of time from 3 months to 6 months so its becoming a right pain in the arse to try and train. It was easy running in the cold (not the snow) as you warm up when running. How the weather has been the last few weeks though it makes it so much harder. The only reason I'm still doing it is because of sponsorship money.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 8 June 2013 Posted 8 June 2013 This is it although to be fair to them, this is likely the earliest the could re-arrange road closures, first aid, water stations etc. If it was next week I would have done it as that would have been 3 weeks post marathon - but the team gets point no matter how badly I lose tomorrow so I'd rather help them out than struggle through Loughborough.

Banardos is a great charity. Ely must be a great area to train for London. Long flat stretches with no hills! Good luck to her. She's got plenty of time to train but don't let her push herself to far too soon.

Seriously Andy well done on your Edinburgh time. it can really hurt when things don't go wrong. Any sub 4hrs time is good. Wish I could get close to it these days.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 9 June 2013 Posted 9 June 2013 Finished it in about 1hr 49mins. 5 mins slower than Sheffield Half which I did 9 years ago
Ozwin Posted 9 June 2013 Posted 9 June 2013 I need to get in on this again, been a while now. Keep putting it off because I've got no decent shoes and don't really want to fork out £60 for a pair. Might just whack the astro turfs out and just go for it while it's nice out. Just finding excuses I reckon.

The Year Of The Fox Posted 9 June 2013 Posted 9 June 2013 Confirming what some of you no doubt already thought On a side note, look how a fine a specimen of a man Iwan Is A welshamn looks!
FoxesAreBlue Posted 9 June 2013 Posted 9 June 2013 Well done boys - what were your times?? I had a mare at my event: 1500m 5:11.9 3000m DNF (cramp in lower back) Fvcking pissed off about it tbh, should've ran Loughborough.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 9 June 2013 Posted 9 June 2013 Not certain yet, around 1hr 49, the other lad came in a couple of minutes behind me They're not putting the results up til tomorrow/Tuesday
Steven Posted 9 June 2013 Posted 9 June 2013 You will all be pleased to know my Achilles has finally healed.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 10 June 2013 Posted 10 June 2013 Did pretty shit actually. Just got the results http://www.giving-back.co.uk/images/db/dt_event/1/signup/results2013.TXT I came 257th. I thought I was on about 1 hour 49, which after rechecking my Sheffield one from 9 years ago would've meant I was only a minute slower yesterday, and the Sheffield one was ran whilst super fit in the army. I'll have to settle for 1hr 53. What's the difference between the run time and the chip time? The run time was when the clock was first started but being so far back in the order is the reason as to why my chiptime is different? IE The chip activates and deactivates as you cross the start/finish line?
FoxesAreBlue Posted 10 June 2013 Posted 10 June 2013 Correct, go off your chip time. Sub 2 hrs off poor training over the last 3 months ain't bad.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 10 June 2013 Posted 10 June 2013 Correct, go off your chip time. Sub 2 hrs off poor training over the last 3 months ain't bad. I ran about 10 miles in 1 hour 25mins roughly before the snow hit early March. Since then I've done a 4 miler, a 3 miler, attempted an 11 miler but had to stop at 9, and completed an 11miler so I guess it's not too bad considering how much I drink and smoke.
Ozwin Posted 11 June 2013 Posted 11 June 2013 Decided just to get out there and do some running, no faffing about with GPS or iPhone apps, was so much fun. Nothing to distract me or make me run stupidly quick like I used to, I just ran at my own pace. This sort of time is great too, nobody around but runners and cyclists. Can't wait to get back out there, my calfs ache a bit but there's no twinges around the shins *touch wood* so hopefully I'm alright in that department. Loved it. Just worked out how far I ran, did nigh on 6K, albeit stopping twice for a breather. Immense. I haven't done any proper exercise in like 4 months. Still got it.
Ozwin Posted 14 June 2013 Posted 14 June 2013 Ok, I can see why you guys talk about being hardly able to walk after runs now. 3 days later and my calves are still aching to ****. The morning after felt like I'd been shot in the back of both legs!
The Year Of The Fox Posted 14 June 2013 Posted 14 June 2013 How fast were you running? I don't protest to be athletic by any stretch, but stiff after a 4 mile run?? (unless it was done in around 30 mins then I'll let you off!)
danny. Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 If you aren't used to it 4 miles is a long run. 99% of people probably can't even run 4 miles at any speed.
