I was thinking about it today are we the biggest team to ever play in league 1?

teams who have never played in this league

Arsenal

Chelsea

Everton

Liverpool

Manchester United

Newcastle United

Tottenham Hotspur

West Ham United

A part from them are there any "big" teams?

forest - were good for about 2 years they are hardly big

leeds - have never been good they ended up runner up a few times in the 70s so they are not a big club

sheffield wednesday - were big 100 years ago so were preston they are no longer big

man city - have never been good they lost 8-1 to middlesbrough for crying out load

derby - :crylaugh:

so am i right in thinking we are the biggest team to ever play at this leval?

Hahahahaha. No.

Unless you class being shit as being a big club. In which case we would be in the Premier League.

Errr.... are you having a giggle?

Both Forest and Leeds played at that level last year and are bigger clubs than us.

They have had genuine domestic and european success.

Don't know why I bother.

Wa nker.

Man City:

Twice champions.

Four FA Cup wins.

Two League Cups.

A European Title.

30,000+ gates in the third tier.

They play in a stadium built for the Commonwealth games, in the third largest city in England.

Their active fanbase is about 1 million, in the UK alone.

They are owned by a former Prime Minister.

They sh*t all over us.

Pull yourself aside and have a word.

You too? That's really starting to irritate me now.

Biggest club in league one.....get out mate. Leeds are far bigger than us and so are forest. Based on history.

Just take off those teams from the current Premier League table and you've still got plenty of teams that have played in this tier, that are bigger now, and have bigger histories than us.

Aston Villa strike me as the most obvious, surprised no one's mentioned them yet. Blackburn obviously, Bolton have won four FA Cups, Man City see above, Boro have been UEFA cup runners up, Pompey were nearly the first team to ever do the League / FA Cup double (when we stopped them) and Sunderland have 6 (admitedly pre-war) titles.

Stupid, stupid thread.

I love statistics. You can't argue with facts.

Villa and Sheff Wed got near-50000 crowds in the third tier.

But we have still more potential than Blackburn, Boro, Bolton and Pompey. Even during this season we regularly got bigger gates than three of those teams.

And in the Premier League era, only the big four have won more trophies than us.
