Cheese Me Posted 8 June 2008 Posted 8 June 2008 Nuno Gomes. The sole striker for a team that have every chance of getting to the final / winning it. And 100/1 on Betfair to be top scorer. 100/1

And 100/1 on Betfair to be top scorer. 100/1 Not a bad shout actually. Although TBH, I think it will be Podolski, Klose, C.Ronaldo, one of the prolific proven players that always score and are the likely choices.

I have Klose at 11/1 just for the fact he could be 3 games up on all French, Dutch and Italian strikers because they all play each other in the groups.

Ric Flair Posted 9 June 2008 Posted 9 June 2008 That Brazilian lad whose now somehow Polish looked quality when he came on last night. Can't spell his name, so won't bother.
Lovejoy Posted 9 June 2008 Posted 9 June 2008 That Brazilian lad whose now somehow Polish looked quality when he came on last night. Can't spell his name, so won't bother. Guirero (sp?) or something like that.
Lovejoy Posted 9 June 2008 Posted 9 June 2008 I think Henry will be out to prove a point. Potentially golden-boot winner if he's picked for all the games.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 9 June 2008 Author Posted 9 June 2008 I think Henry will be out to prove a point. Potentially golden-boot winner if he's picked for all the games. I'd put a fair bit of "wedge" for Henry top scorer.
shen Posted 9 June 2008 Posted 9 June 2008 That Brazilian lad whose now somehow Polish looked quality when he came on last night. Can't spell his name, so won't bother. Roger Guerreiro
Ric Flair Posted 10 June 2008 Posted 10 June 2008 Roger Guerreiro That's the chap, very impressed by him on Sunday. Hope he does the business against Austria.
C-man Posted 10 June 2008 Posted 10 June 2008 I wouldn't have said Arshavin if I knew he was suspended for the first 2 games.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 11 June 2008 Author Posted 11 June 2008 I wouldn't have said Arshavin if I knew he was suspended for the first 2 games. It has been mentioned a few times in here. Russia looked half the team without him. Engelaar looked very promising for Holland the other night, but I'd be lying if I said I'd had heard of him before Monday.

lildave3 Posted 11 June 2008 Posted 11 June 2008 you wouldn't bet against Robben starting as soon as he's fit though... Yeah but he wouldn't replace Engelaar even if he did.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 12 June 2008 Author Posted 12 June 2008 you wouldn't bet against Robben starting as soon as he's fit though... Depends whether Van Basten plays the same team in the next game. If they perform well, I can see him wanting to keep that basic shape throughout the tournament, whether or not Robben is fit or not.
simonthefox Posted 21 June 2008 Posted 21 June 2008 Once upon a time we may have looked at competitions such as this with potential-transfer interest, but alas, those days are no more. Anyhoo, there are still players that catch your eye. Here's a team that have impressed me thus far: GK - Buffon (Italy) - Consolidated his place as the best in the world, kept Italy in it several times RB - Anyukov (Russia) - Great going forward, seems to spend more time attacking than defending but is damn good at it CB - Servet (Turkey) - Managed to keep the Turkish defence together despite being injured CB - Simunic (Croatia) - Might be remembered for something other than the 3 yellows debacle now LB - Zhirkov (Russia) - Not great defensively but has a hell of a cross and a fair bit of skill as well RM - Sionko (Czech Republic) - Skillful, attacking, always looked able and likely to score a goal CM - Modric (Croatia) - Despite being small he's shown he can handle himself, Tottenham looked like they've got themselves a good player CM - Sneijder (Holland) - Great technically, scores amazing goals, an integral part of the as yet unstoppable Dutch machine LM - Arda (Turkey) - A bright spark in an otherwise fairly skill-less Turkish team, can score decent goals as well ST - Arshavin (Russia) - Only played one game so far but looked amazing, as he did for Zenit. Big clubs may be eyeing him up ST - Olic (Croatia) - Misses more than his fair share but runs his socks off and really irritates defenders Who else has impressed you?
Koke Posted 21 June 2008 Posted 21 June 2008 Arda is still my man. Too bad the kid will miss the semi final (along with half the Turkish team). Very skillfull player and can player on either wing.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 22 June 2008 Author Posted 22 June 2008 Ronaldo to Madrid for Sneijder and cash anyone?
Sparky Posted 22 June 2008 Posted 22 June 2008 Arda is still my man. Too bad the kid will miss the semi final (along with half the Turkish team). Very skillfull player and can player on either wing. Yeah ive been impressed with the fella

Swiss - Derdiyok & Behrami Czech - Know all about Sionko from FC Copenhagen already. A player reborn. Portugal - Bosingwa & Deco Turkey - Arda Germany - Podolski Croatia - Modric, Pranjic and Olic Austria - Korkmaz Poland - Boruc Netherlands - Sneijder, Engelaar, Afellay, Van Persie & Robben Italy - ... France - Henry Romania - Mutu & Rat Spain - Villa, Silva & Iniesta Russia - Arshavin, Pavlyuchenko, Semak & Anyukov Sweden - ... Greece - Karagounis
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 23 June 2008 Author Posted 23 June 2008 Austria - Korkmaz Korkmaz really impressed me as well. Was lightning for Austria down the wing.
