Gary Megson was the manager of Leicester City, he took the Bolton job.

I don't want Iain Dowie but just something to bear in mind, especially as Milan seems to be very keen on him for some reason.

Milan really hasn't got a clue when it comes to managers...The only decent manager he appointed is Harry Redknapp, and he fuked that relationship up and then had to beg him to come back.

How successful does someone have to be considered for the City Job? Clearly any manager who has won a trophy in the last month or a promotion. You Might as well include the Managers of Aldershot, Exeter City and Ebbsfleet (Fa Trophy Winners) in the list of possible candidates.

Deja Vu anyone :dunno:

This is the most vital decision of all - Milan

Leicester City chairman Milan Mandaric starts his search for a new manager this week and rates the decision as the most important he has ever had to make.

The club's relegation to the third level of the game has made this a different scenario from before.

The club's recovery is uppermost in Mandaric's mind following Ian Holloway's departure on Friday.

He returns from a trip abroad later today to start the process and said: "It has got to be the right decision for the long-term future of the club.

"I will give the new manager every support. His first job will be to sort out the squad and organise the team as well as decide the preparation for the new season, which is something the previous two managers (Gary Megson and Ian Holloway) did not have.

"This is the most important decision I have ever had to make because that preparation going into next season is going to be vital. The aim is to bounce back to the Championship right away and then go for the Premier League.

"I had a three-year plan to go to the Premier League and now it is a two-year project and the right man will be able to do that."

The usual round of speculation has come up with familiar names.

Paul Lambert's surprise exit from Wycombe put him among the early runners.

Former Derby boss Billy Davies, who was linked with City before when steering Derby to the Premier League through the play-offs, is being touted again.

Ex-Hibernian boss John Collins could be a contender and former City first-team coach John Gregory, who managed Aston Villa in the top flight, has been mentioned. But Mandaric said: "Until I make my decision, it is all speculation and rumour.

"I am sure if Iain Dowie was not at QPR he would be in there as well.

"He was before but there is no point in paying any attention to all of that.

"I am determined to get the right man.

"The others so far have not worked out as we would have wanted but I am not going to look back, only forward, because that is the only direction for this club."

The situation of Holloway's staff - head of recruitment Gary Penrice and coaches Tim Breacker and Des Bulpin - has yet to be resolved.

But it is anticipated they will also leave because a new manager would usually want his own team around him.

Mandaric did say that he hoped to have the major changes in place before the second week of next month.

He is well on course to meet that deadline or even beat it.

Leicester City

I have it on good authority Milan Mandaric is on the verge of agreeing a compensation fee with Pete Winkleman of Mk Dons after successful talks with Paul Ince.

Ince possibly be bringing star midfielder Keith Andrews to the Walkers with him and also Dean Lewington only if the Foxes cannot hold on to Joe Mattock. The rest of the Dons squad will be staying put.

Wait for this to develop.

If this does not come off Billy Davies is second choice

Milan weighing up "quality" list by Bill Anderson

Leicester City chairman Milan Mandaric is working through an "encouraging" list of applicants for the vacant manager's job.

Mandaric171106.gif

Since Ian Holloway parted company with the club by mutual consent on Friday, Mandaric finds himself not short of options.

City's dip into the third tier of the game for the first time ever might have been a deterrent to some candidates, but Mandaric said: "I have looked at those who have expressed an interest, and I must say I find the quality in the list of names very encouraging.

"It shows that some very good people still see this club as one with potential and with the ingredients to become a top-flight side once again, even though we are currently in the third level of the game.

"They want to be given the chance to take us up again.

"So I will take my time, go through the names and give it a lot of thought because, as I have said, this is the most important decision I have ever had to make, and already there are a lot of good candidates."

Mandaric is working towards having the new man in place before the deadline he set, the second week of June, to have a new structure established and put the club on a strong foundation both on and off the pitch.

He is also looking forward to the challenge set by the fact that Leeds failed to get into the Championships by losing their play-off final against Doncaster on Sunday, and look set to be a powerful League One force again under ex-City man Gary McAllister.

Had Leeds gone up, City would have been the biggest name in League One, but Mandaric sees this as simply a great incentive for the up-coming campaign.

He said: "It adds to the competition and I am looking forward to going head to head with them for promotion.

"We are going to be very competitive next season and I believe we can take on Leeds and come out on top.

"It is going to be a very tough division but I am confident that, with the changes we are going to make, we will be a force next season. We will try and make sure we go up at the first chance."

Psychologically Mandaric is about as subtle as a demolition ball.

Being confident and determined is one thing but making statements about what we're going to do to Leeds is so naive, especially in our position.

It just gives the opposition added incentive.

Far better to take the pressure off, play down our chances, praise the quality of the opposition and your respect for them.

All Mandaric is doing is making it harder for people and creating anxiety with his constant obsession with instant success.

Gonna do this, gonna do that impresses no-one when your club's a serial loser.

Never mind Leeds, better to focus on simple achievements in the first place.

Like getting a manager.

Building some spirit in the club.

Getting a respectable team.

And scoring back-to-back wins.

As a club we're like a baby. We've not learned to walk yet, let alone run.

Begs the question "Why didn't these quality candidates put themselves forward when we were one division higher? :dunno:

Fair question, but actually when you think about it taking on a risky Championship side if more of a professional risk than us in L1. The only way is up. Baby.

Because they would have been classed as crap for the championship

I would bet a significant sum of money that one of those applicants is John Gregory, he's applied pretty much every time the job has become available for years now.

From BBc Radio Leicester

Foxes eager for swift appointment

Leicester City chairman Milan Mandaric says he wants to name Ian Holloway's successor as Foxes manager by the middle of June at the latest.

Mandaric is keen to give the new man as much time as possible to prepare for the new season.

He told BBC Radio Leicester: "My goal is to appoint a manager not later than the 15th of June."

Ex-Derby boss Billy Davies has emerged as the favourite, while former Wycombe boss Paul Lambert is also in the frame.

Mandaric said: "We are generating interest of the people which is very encouraging."

The search for a new boss is under way after Holloway left the club by mutual consent on Friday.
