Just got back from an 8-day tour of Italy with the wife - Pisa, Florence, Siena & Rome. Really nice, Rome is absolutely gorgeous. Got about on the local trains which were dirt cheap and very reliable. Drank plenty of vino.

Only just seen this, so I'm afraid we've been and gone!! Given my aversion to flying more than 9-10 hours, I don't think I'll be coming back. :(

Anybody ever been to Kos , Im going there with the fellas 1st week in August just wondered what people think

I went, and I had, on the whole, a real crap time. :(

Yeah it's a bit of a hike that's why it's always good to have a night or two stopover at one of the main asian stop overs.

Where did you go and see and howd you like it.

We stopped off in Hong Kong, which is an amazing place, but not somewhere I would like to live. The flight to Sydney from there is still one hell of a flight though.

We only stayed in Sydney for a few nights, as the main purpose of the holiday was to visit the in-laws in New Zealand. We spent our time wandering around. There's plenty to see and do. Although it was absolutely hammering it down the first couple of days we were there!! We had planned to walk over the bridge, but in the end decided it was too much hassle.

We also thought that the cost of the harbour cruises was a rip off, especially when the ferries are good value for money, and we really didn't need someone to point out where the Opera House was! We took the ferry to Watsons Bay. It was beautiful blue skies and sunshine when we got there, but we left after about half an hour or so as it began pissing it down again, although we did make it down to the memorial thingymajig. Had the weather not been so changeable, we would have taken the ferry to Manly, and made more of a day of things.

I liked Sydney more than SF. He's not really a fan of Aussies, but to be honest, the people we spoke to were friendly enough, especially the one in Rotorua!! There is a stereotype that Aussies are arrogant and brash, but I found the attitudes of the general public no different to any other city, including Leicester. New Zealand is so different; everyone will speak to everyone there, and if you're not careful, they're telling you their life story! It surprised me that SF preferred that, as he's always telling me to shut up!!

Thought you might have tried to go to surfers paradise or something for the beaches.

But to be honest a few days in Sydney is all you need, but it would of been good if you got to Bondi Beach or the blue Mountains. I think away from the Captial cities are the best personally more natural and more things to see.

Tell SF we are not all that bad but Sydney is the rudest part of Australia imo.....i promise we are genuinely nice SF :D

But if the in-laws are from NZ, then that means SF is at least part Kiwi it's in his make up to hate Aussies :D:P

Ha ha, his brother is as Welsh as he is (tee hee). He married a Kiwi! There's a sheep joke somewhere......

To be honest, June is the wrong time of year for visiting Australia. We were told that Bondi beach is overrated, in any case, and that there are better beaches to see, and we didn't get time to go to the mountains. I would like to go back, but that's to visit my relatives in Perth (well, Fremantle, it's the same place :P ), but unless we arrange to get there in about 4 stages, I'm not going!!

Yeah the flights are long as i can't sleep on any form of transport and it seems like an eternity.

Go to Queensland it is probably the place to go warmer weather, nice beaches for miles on end.

But Melbourne for everything else.....not biased at all either :D

We nearly ended up in QL instead of Sydney, which I would have preferred!!

I know, hence the :P

Freo is meant to be the place to go to in WA.....for the women and watering holes

As two US Carrier loads of Sailors are about to rock up and find out for themselves :)

Freo has some good pubs and bars, as does Cottesloe, and you have to have a few drinks in Northbridge, and hit a restaurant and some bars in East Perth on the river. Freo is as easy as heading to St Kilda for a night out, so easy enough to do it all if you are there for a week or two.

I lived in Perth for a year - and am looking forward to heading back for a month over Christmas and to Melbourne for New Year.
