turkish14 Posted 28 July 2008 Posted 28 July 2008 not sure if this is worth a mention but went to a house that overlooks the training pitches today, and the owners who have lived there years say they've never seen the players worked so hard, and you can hear the coaches really pushing the players. They also said ollie only had them down there a few hours a day and the fitness wasnt to the same levels as pearsons. imo the players did look knackered towards the end of last season so hopefully they'll pull there fingers out there a***s and be ready for the 9th.

Good to hear, on numerous interviews on world etc different players have commented on how it is good to have structure and be training properly to get as fit as possible.

That is how long clubs train for mid-season.
Nationwider Posted 28 July 2008 Posted 28 July 2008 It's all relative. You can only judge fitness after they've played 2/3 league fixtures. What it looks like on the training ground is irrelevant, and impossible to judge.
HitchinFox Posted 28 July 2008 Posted 28 July 2008 What it looks like on the training ground is irrelevant, and impossible to judge. Agreed. When you're playing 2 games a week at the back end of a long season in April you will train completely differently to the way you would during pre-season... Still, I like the thought of the little ****ers running their socks off and at least pretending that they care...

And there was you being all pedantic with Bert yesterday
Bert Posted 28 July 2008 Posted 28 July 2008 Impossible to ascertain a players fitness on the training ground? You sure on that? And there was you being all pedantic with Bert yesterday I've just come from the park. Swings and roundabouts there too.
turkish14 Posted 28 July 2008 Author Posted 28 July 2008 But Ollie Wasnt Here For Pre Season Tho. Martin Allen Was In Charge For Our Pre Season Last Year. Pre Season Is Harder Work Than Mid Season Isnt It i cant remember mentioning martin allen or last years pre-season in my post. on ollie,i dont think im the only 1 who thought the players looked tired during the latter halves of the games after xmas, imo this is down to ollie and the coaches. It's all relative. You can only judge fitness after they've played 2/3 league fixtures. What it looks like on the training ground is irrelevant, and impossible to judge. agreed, tho the people who live at the house have been living there over 20 years, many pre-seasons they would of seen/heard various coaches taking training,so for them to say what they said in my post hopefully says the players will be well prepared compared to previous seasons.
Ashley Posted 28 July 2008 Posted 28 July 2008 Good to hear, lets just hope this pays off during the comming season.
Milans Foxes Posted 28 July 2008 Posted 28 July 2008 Ive been fairly impressed by how few injuries the players are picking up. Normally, after a few weeks off at the end of the season, players come back with low fitness and are therefore prone to picking up injuries like muscle strains etc. Can't remember any news of injuries since Pearson started except Clem and Kisnorbo who were injured before the pre-season. Just shows how well the fitness coaches are working, warming up the players properly etc as keeping the majority of the players injury free throughout the season will be a big help.
sham Posted 28 July 2008 Posted 28 July 2008 Also did anyone see that all of City's players on saturday were wearing a black fitness monitor across their chests/stomach at the kettering game? Maybe Pearson is monitoring their fitness and see how many miles/kilometres they're running per match and what is expected? Sounds a great idea to me!
Guest Posted 28 July 2008 Posted 28 July 2008 You can read too much into statistics. It's alright saying so and so ran 8k+ during the 90 minutes, but if he only touched the ball a handful of times, and was unable to pass to a team mate, then it's a wasted effort.

Totally agree with you but atleast we wouldn't have to worry about tiredness or lack of effort due to unfitness, then it would be based solely on ability and so far it seems and looks good!
Wooly Posted 28 July 2008 Posted 28 July 2008 We hear this every single pre-season though. Everybody is optimistic, so after every friendly you hear 'they look much fitter this year don't they'. Guarantee we had it under Allen!

He's going to be drowning in stats this season - there was the vacancy advertised at the endish (I think) of last season for someone to do all the data analysis for matches - passes, runs, tackles etc.

dandannieldanok Posted 28 July 2008 Posted 28 July 2008 Weren't we told the same thing last pre-season, that Allen had the players working really hard under a strict regime, only for things to fall flat in the first fixture. Let's just hope the same pattern isn't emerging.

billyfox1 Posted 28 July 2008 Posted 28 July 2008 We hear this every single pre-season though. Everybody is optimistic, so after every friendly you hear 'they look much fitter this year don't they'. Guarantee we had it under Allen! Didn't he sound really good saying that he'd made De Vries lose lots of weight and he was looking sharper than ever. Then we sent him to Leeds to break his toe.
Nationwider Posted 28 July 2008 Posted 28 July 2008 Impossible to ascertain a players fitness on the training ground? You sure on that? And there was you being all pedantic with Bert yesterday Impossible to judge compared to the opposition. If we are very fit, but MK Dons are very, very fit, they will most likely score a scorching breakaway goal in the last minute against our flagging defence. As for Bert, he described Clemence as the best midfielder in the world ever*. I had to step in to restore a sense of calm. * Not actual words.
Spiritwalker Posted 28 July 2008 Posted 28 July 2008 I can not remember a pre season where we haven't been told this year is the hardest the players have ever been pushed in training. Army camps and hill running spring to mind . However I was suprised at how fit the players looked on Saturday on what was a very hot day, Fryatt and Howard in particular looked slimmer than last season.
