DB11 Posted 8 August 2008 Posted 8 August 2008 http://therams.co.uk/stories/rams-set-to-t...0000-for-opener Derby County are heading for a 30,000-plus gate and possible sell-out for their first game back in the Championship. The Rams entertain Doncaster Rovers at Pride Park Stadium on Saturday and 28,000 tickets have already been sold. Doncaster, newly-promoted from League One, have sold their allocation of 3,074 tickets. President and chief executive Tom Glick hailed the response of the Rams fans as phenomenal. “There is a real buzz around the town at the moment and we can sense the excitement the fans have for this season,” he said. “There are still some great tickets available but they are selling fast and, at this moment in time, we are on course to be a sell-out come kick-off on Saturday.” Derby have had home games on the opening day in five of the last six seasons. A crowd of 33,016 watched them beat Reading 3-0 in 2002, after dropping out of the Premiership, but, a year later, only 21,517 attended the 3-0 defeat by Stoke City. In 2005, a 1-1 draw with Brighton attracted 25,292. A crowd of 21,939 watched the 2-2 draw against Southampton in 2006 and, 12 months ago, another draw, 2-2 with Portsmouth in the Premier League, was played in front of 32,176. Meanwhile, Robbie Savage is highly unlikely to join Leicester City and is still in contention for a place in the squad to face Doncaster. Speculation had linked the 33-year-old midfielder with a return to Leicester, one of his old clubs, who are now in League One. But Leicester owner and chairman Milan Mandaric did not sound like a man ready to swoop for Savage, when he was asked about the Welsh international. “His name was mentioned but we have got to look at the make up of the team,” said Mandaric. “We have got to look at the togetherness we have and look at: Do we really need this sort of player like Robbie at this time?” Savage’s future at Derby remains clouded in uncertainty, despite only signing from Blackburn Rovers six months ago for £1.5m. He has been left out of the squad for the last three friendlies and was told by manager Paul Jewell to knuckle down if he wants to earn a place in the team. Who´d go to see Derby after the season they have just had

Joe. Posted 8 August 2008 Posted 8 August 2008 Who´d go to see Derby after the season they have just had Derby fans. Just a thought, it's quite possible.
Sods Posted 8 August 2008 Posted 8 August 2008 Come on Doncaster. Paul Jewell yet to win a league game.
Asha Posted 8 August 2008 Posted 8 August 2008 Who´d go to see Derby after the season they have just had What a strange thing to say. We've had a shit season, we're still watching them. Derby weren't meant to get promoted last year, it was too soon for them. They were always going to be relegated, will be good season for them and the fans this year though.
Corky Posted 8 August 2008 Posted 8 August 2008 Come on Doncaster.Paul Jewell yet to win a league game. A bad start and he is out definitely. I know he had a crap bunch of players last year but they should have won a couple of matches at least.
lildave3 Posted 8 August 2008 Posted 8 August 2008 Who´d go to see Derby after the season they have just had That's the spirit.

Guest Gist Posted 8 August 2008 Posted 8 August 2008 What a strange thing to say. We've had a shit season, we're still watching them. Derby weren't meant to get promoted last year, it was too soon for them. They were always going to be relegated, will be good season for them and the fans this year though. I love it when people say that. What were they going to do, wait around couple of seasons and then go up and come back down anyway. I don't like Derby much, apart from being our rivals they are just boring, but fair play to them pulling in that sort of crowd after that season they just had.
Tevez Posted 8 August 2008 Posted 8 August 2008 I still think it's between them and Brum for the Championship... Not forgetting Cov (play off winners)
purpleronnie Posted 8 August 2008 Posted 8 August 2008 Derby have always been well supported, it dosen't suprise me one bit.
Tommeh Posted 8 August 2008 Posted 8 August 2008 Couldn't really give a shite tbh and baffled why others do! We got the same against west Ham 1st season outta the prem in 04/05, then they soon fell once mid table mediocracy set in.
Vardinhio Posted 8 August 2008 Posted 8 August 2008 I can't look past Birmingham. Class all over the field and Phillips will score even more than last season. Reading would be the other team to look out for whilst I think Wolves will struggle.
Darkzzz_ Posted 8 August 2008 Posted 8 August 2008 Don't care about Derby, Don't care about Savage. Leicester is the forefront of my thinking. That's that!
David Guiza Posted 9 August 2008 Posted 9 August 2008 if they dont win there next few games it will be a year since there last league win
ASH17LCFC Posted 9 August 2008 Posted 9 August 2008 Jewell will get sacked very soon, the fans hate him.
Matt Posted 9 August 2008 Posted 9 August 2008 Hahaha, I can go into work taking the piss out of my boss on Monday. The twat was one of the first to "congratulate" us on our relegation last season. ...I must remember to ask for my pay-rise first though!
Fox You Forest Posted 9 August 2008 Posted 9 August 2008 Jewell you dirty sex pest!!!JEWELL OUT JEWELL OUT
dandannieldanok Posted 9 August 2008 Posted 9 August 2008 Anyone heard Jewell's interview on SSN, he says "once we scored" before quickly correcting himself. Wishful thinking 'eh Paul
