Darkzzz_ Posted 9 August 2008 Posted 9 August 2008 Get in there!Who said League 1 isn't easy, why it took Forest 3 years I will never know. Come on! 4th will be our lowest spot of the season. We are going up. P.S loving Gradels determination and nice flag. Cant believe a City fan would talk this way. This league will not be as easy as we think. I like anyone would like it to be plain sailing, but it won't be. Today was good, not superb, but something we can build on. Lets enjoy it, but lets not talk like we are promoted already. There is a long long way to go.
dandannieldanok Posted 9 August 2008 Posted 9 August 2008 Pleasing result, I think we just about deserved it but it was a tale of two Leicester's. Up until the penalty, we put on an excellent display of attacking football and they just could not cope. We had pace and trickery down both wings and both Oakley and King were winning all their 50/50s. Fryatt and Howard shared numerous one-touch link-ups and we genuinely looked like a class team, but as soon as that penalty hit the back of the net we just whimpered away and let a pretty poor opponent pass the ball around. When we scored the second goal I was relieved and so were 23,000 others because we were under the cosh no matter how you dress it up. Fryatt, Gradel and Morrison stood out as the star performers for me and unlike what seems to be the majority of you, I thought Tunchev was shaky and off the pace, I hope for better once he's settled in.
sdb Posted 9 August 2008 Posted 9 August 2008 tres pleaed, some really good football, Oakley, Fryatt and Gradel looked superb. periods of the game where we switched off however (imo). teams with more confidence/quality would have punished us. but for an hour/70 mins we looked v interesting

lavrentis Posted 9 August 2008 Posted 9 August 2008  I was feeling good at the time. Yes I understand It will be a long bumpy ride
Salieri Posted 9 August 2008 Posted 9 August 2008 Working all day so couldn't even listen on the radio but just trawled my way through all of the in game, post game, player ratings comments etc and it makes for pretty positive reading. Sounds lke the defence were pretty solid, Gradel exciting once again and Fryatt maybe at last beginning to look like he could start to realise his potential. (early days i know!) Watched the post match press conference on the OS and how refreshing was it to see the response from NP? No wisecracks or soundbites, just an honest appraisal of the game, constantly re-iterating the point that it is only the first game and there is a hell of a long way to go. He knows, as i think we all do that despite the good start (which is an amazing feeling after so many opening day disappointments) that there will be many ups and downs to come. After the last few years we deserve something to cheer about so who can blame us for getting carried away?! Onwards and upwards from here!
Flynny Posted 9 August 2008 Posted 9 August 2008 Fryatt's trying to lead the line instead of dropping deep, and looks much better for it. Maybe it's some actual service removing the need for him to do that? That or Pearson's had a word.

I agree with your summary Think Tunchev wll be quality when he gets used to English football, but he's not the fastest. I think we played well, and with a young(ish) team handled things pretty well.
Guest Posted 9 August 2008 Posted 9 August 2008 Enjoyed the first half, but for all the domination I did feel that we would regret not capitalizing on this in the second half. At times, I did think we were going to be undone, but the luck was with us today. Gradel though, I know the final ball is lacking, but he doesn't like to lose the ball, does he? What a guy. If we can play like we did before the penalty, I'm going to enjoy this season!!
Bellend Sebastian Posted 9 August 2008 Posted 9 August 2008 I was pretty pleased with what I saw. I'm sure we can get better, but for large periods of the game we were very positive and even if the end result wasn't always there but that will come with time, hopefully. The goals for Fryatt will be a massive confidence boost for him, I'm sure. MK Dons were a lot crapper than I expected them to be - I'd be interested to see how we fare against more established L1 clubs. I expect some will shut up shop more effectively than the Dons did, so set pieces may prove to be crucial and I hope the corners improve. It was the first time I've seen Gradel, and for once there is a possibility that the hype may be justified. Hurray! I also saw Raj, which was EXHILARATING, as you'd expect. He's such a nice bloke
Lillehamring Posted 9 August 2008 Posted 9 August 2008 i'm surprised no one has reflected on the fact that NP won his first game in charge, not something that happens too much at this club... also, would people confirm that the apparent 'weakness' in central mid might be connected to the fact that we seemed (on the radio, based on opinion on here) to be heavily using the wings?
bigneville Posted 9 August 2008 Posted 9 August 2008 I still can't believe. Whilst awaiting for the game to kick off for the second half. Looking toward the back of L1. Seeing Kilworth_Fox wearing the shirt below. Brilliant.
daveyboy Posted 9 August 2008 Posted 9 August 2008 Good result, played well in prolonged spells. And like many have said Gradel, Fryatt and Tunchev looked the better of the team, although Tunchev is walking a fine line between giving away dangerous free kicks and penalties with the way he sometimes handles players - he was all over their striker at one point and it could have easily been a penalty. Very happy with the game as a whole though and Pearson's reaction of praise and improvement is pleasing. Anyone know why we no longer use multi-ball system anymore because it was taking ages for the one ball to get back in play?!
Thracian Posted 9 August 2008 Posted 9 August 2008 Up until we scored we were awesome and camped in their half. We sat back a bit after that but still controlled the game, 2nd half had me worried shades of yesteryear with a fair amount of hoofing particularly from Henderson and deep defending with Dickov & Fryatt out of sight of our midfield. They had a good 30 min spell when they controlled the play and had started to look dangerous although they only created a couple of chances. Then Max decided he'd had enough beat their No 2 with some neat and persistent play shaking his hand as he left him standing came back 5 minutes later for a repeat performance entering the box slipped a simple pass to Fryatt to wrap the game up. The voice of reason.

Yep, the only reason we were light in the centre was because we wanted to move the ball wide early. Despite this I thought Oakley had a great game and King wasn't bad either.

Both would have been a damn sight better second half if there'd been people driving forward instead of camped behind the halfway line. They must have looked up and thought they were scanning a wilderness.
NFFC Chris Posted 9 August 2008 Posted 9 August 2008 Congratulations on your win today, tougher tests await for you though.Your first away game next week will symbolise a real test.

BlabyFox Posted 9 August 2008 Posted 9 August 2008 Am I the only one who thinks we played poorly for long periods of the game. I went to the game and was satisfied with the first 15-20 minutes but after that and especially the second half, I thought we played very poorly. I expected us to dominate and create really exciting football throughout, and have more chances- but that only happened occasionally through Gradel The 2nd half was last season standard but because we won 2-0 knowone seems to care We resorted to long ball bollocks throughout the second half and barely had anything to cheer apart from the fryatt goal and the appearence of Dickov If we'd have put that performance in against a championship side we'd have been beaten or at least badly outplayed. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt with it being so early in the season but I am slightly worried if thats the best we can do

I couldn't believe the negativity of our tactics once we scored.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 9 August 2008 Posted 9 August 2008 I think you can forgive people for accentuating the positive. The team are still getting to know each other and try to organise themselves. We needed to win at all costs and personally I thought we played quite well anyway. We had forgotten how to win so I'll take victories however they come while there are still plenty of encouraging signs, which there were today - mainly Tunchev, Gradel and Fryatt individually speaking.
Tommy G Posted 9 August 2008 Posted 9 August 2008 I saw Beswick arriving at the game with about 15 people in the back of his old polo (style! ) that included Jonny Hayes - will he ever play again? Is Beswick now completely out the frame, or just not ready yet? I was slightly concerned over Mattock today defensively, I'm not saying Beswick is the answer though..

I'd agree about those three and did mention your point about needing to win the first game whatever while I was supping in the pub. Trouble is I think it really is Pearson's approach having looked at his record and I damn well hope he changes cos I'm sick of manager's who shut up shop when we score. I said the Charlton fiasco would get us relegated and this season goal difference could get us promoted. We've no need to fall back voluntarily against a side we could have scored five against. And if we finish third I'll mention the point again.
Tommy G Posted 9 August 2008 Posted 9 August 2008 Beswick's injured isn't he? I'm sure his missus could inform us - she had a good old rant on here earlier in the week!
