Suffolk_fox Posted 15 August 2008 Posted 15 August 2008 I have a new job offer which I have accepted, but today I have to give in my notice to my MD. I will be sent home on Gardening Leave for a month, but the boss has really been friendly this week esp as I have been covering the warehouse this week. Giving him my notice will be like shooting my cute little pet puppy... Any clues how to handle this without getting him really pissed off?
Bryn Posted 15 August 2008 Posted 15 August 2008 I'd just be firm and professional about it. At the end of the day you have to progress in life and your boss needs to recognise that. You can always offer to take him out for a pint as a thanks for whatever, or something.
billyfox1 Posted 15 August 2008 Posted 15 August 2008 Just be honest, if they get pissed off don't worry about it. You don't work there anymore

Thing is, I got a bit pissed last night, and slept in a bit and in my mad haste to leave home on time I forgot my wallet. I doubt he'd accept anyway so it could be worth a gamble .
MPH Posted 15 August 2008 Posted 15 August 2008 wait till he is on the phone walk into his office make some gesture about not wanting to disturb him put the letter on his desk, walk out his office calmy and then when round the corner run for your life.

The People's Hero Posted 15 August 2008 Posted 15 August 2008 Have a big row with someone else in your office. Use that as an excuse.
Tabou Posted 15 August 2008 Posted 15 August 2008 Have a big row with someone else in your office. Use that as an excuse. Conversely, spice it up by getting some friends in police outfits to storm the office and arrest you on charges of warcrimes/murder/terrorism/embezzlement/kidnapping/lewd act, public toilet, member of parliment. * *delete as appropiate.
The People's Hero Posted 15 August 2008 Posted 15 August 2008 Resign and then confess you've always fancied him and would love to meet up in the future. I suggest that'll probably get him off your case.
Tubes Posted 15 August 2008 Posted 15 August 2008 Had to hand my notice in for the first ever time today, was absolutely bricking it but when I handed it him and explained I had been offered an apprenticeship he understood and accepted it. Went a lot easier than expected, just go for it and if worst comes to worst you'll be leaving in a week anyway.

Think it is handing in notice season, I gave my written notice in today aswell. I'm going travelling round the world for 7 months in October. I had already told my boss verbally about 3 weeks ago as didnt want to leave him short so he had plenty of time to find my replacement for when October comes. He was abit shocked at first but then came around and said he didnt blame me and wished he would have done. Then spent 20 mins talking about my travels and said to give him a call when I get back and there might be a job available for me when I get back if I want it. Was worried how he would take it but that put my mind at ease and should get a really good reference off him when i get back. Been with the company 2 years since uni, and its been really good experience for it and be a shame to leave the company.
Stuliasz Posted 15 August 2008 Posted 15 August 2008 I have also recently joined the FT society of notice handing ins although it was a week or two ago. Start my new job on Monday.
davieG Posted 15 August 2008 Posted 15 August 2008 But have you seen Suffolk Fox's boss? Nothing in the world is new, transvestites have been coming out for years.
