Even though your name annoys me (probably the worst nickname for a sports team, ever) you actually come across as quite a laidback guy. So that's the disclaimer out the way. But does anyone else find many Australians have a massive chip on their shoulder about the British? They really don't like the fact we're (so far) having a better Olympics than them. It seems to mean so much, whereas we just laugh and enjoy it they're getting worked up. I don't know if it's a cultural thing or whether they hold resentment towards us due to the history... Maybe our friends down under on this forum can give an insight into the feeling towards the British over there? It's not just Olympics either, it's everything, although often sport related. Obviously us Brits love to beat the Aussies but they seem to take it so much more seriously than that and I often get the impression they can happily dish out the insults and banter but are nowhere near as good at taking them.

I actually didn't know you guys were a head of "us" in golds until JTB brought it up last night and ask if we have many potential golds to come.

But I just get the impression from news reports, quotes from Australian sports people and my own experiences of Australians that there is some bitterness of some sort going on.Maybe it's just me. It really hasn't been mentioned and i listen to a 24 sports radio show when ever im in the car and sometimes at home and it hasn't been mentioned at all about from the occiosnal passing comment. When the medal tally is read out it will be like Gbr are doing excellent and putting us to shame. I must admit the chip on the shoulder thing was something you FT'ers made up i really didn't think it was what all of England thought thats why the call from the radio was really quite surprising as its not something i have ever thought about. apart from a friendly rivalry in sports. If above doesn't make sense forgive me.

If above doesn't make sense forgive me. from the observations i can recall having made, it seems that the aussies are very loud and proud/boastful when they are winning, but if they are losing they go a bit quiet, like they aren't really bothered. but you know they are, cause you can see how much they like to win. to be fair, for 20 million people, they don't do a bad job in a lot of sports; curiously, correct me if i'm wrong, but predominantly in team sports...
