Ric Flair Posted 19 August 2008 Posted 19 August 2008 Why Flair??? Just think this country has lost it's identity with the way we have become a nanny state to cretins who are allowed to get away with things here. Australia have a far better policy, from immigration to country values. I was perhaps being a tad unfair when I said we were wankers as the only plus point I see of Great Britain at present is our sense of humour. I'm sure if I lived in another country or studied other countries policies, then i'd moan about that as well.

I do agree to certain extent, it's the fact that nothing ever seems to get any better in this country, things just get worse!! We are a nation of moaners, other countries get up and do something about it, including mass protest and general vigilantism!!!

The People's Hero Posted 19 August 2008 Posted 19 August 2008 This country is a steaming pile of arse if you're British. I shouldn't be struggling to make ends meet. I really shouldn't. I don't want hand outs. I just want this country to look after my interests for a change. Fu ck you lot, what about me?!

Absolutely Singh, you've hit the nail on the head there as well. Not only has the country become a joke, but we have become so disillusioned that we have lost the desire to stand up for what we believe in. I prefer to moan, than do anything it. I'm a hypocrite!
The People's Hero Posted 19 August 2008 Posted 19 August 2008 Aborigines? I was shocked to see Aubergines on a menu at a pub a few weeks back. I mean, I know we are advanced by comparison and sure, I bet they taste great - but is there not something of a moral issue in eating them? Not really in to cannon-ball-ism.

hairy Posted 19 August 2008 Posted 19 August 2008 Aborigines? I think you find the worst atrocities were committed by the British and then later the Australians
Daggers Posted 19 August 2008 Posted 19 August 2008 What the Australians did to our language is a bit of an atrocity.
hairy Posted 19 August 2008 Posted 19 August 2008 What the Australians did to our language is a bit of an atrocity. Innit!
Alexikokopops Posted 19 August 2008 Posted 19 August 2008 Why are WE POMS when in reality the early white australians were the prisoners on her majesty's service. surely making the australians POMS? If you're refering to the popular story that it's from teh acronym "Prisoners of mother England" then your answer is that P.O.M.E. is entirely made up to explain the nickname "pom", a false etymology.

I've always been told it was Prisoners On her Majestys Service
hairy Posted 19 August 2008 Posted 19 August 2008 I've always been told it was Prisoners On her Majestys Service I thought it was from the prison situated on the Thames near the Houses of Parliment that had P.O.M. painted on the roof. It was from there they left for Oz. But in reality most Ozzie's emigrated there after the war. They are very proud if they can trace their Ozzie family line back three generations.
ozleicester Posted 19 August 2008 Posted 19 August 2008 ok...from a pom living in OZ. I have been here since childhood, but remain a pom...and england supporter always, and believe me...given the results of the past 10 years..particularly in cricket..its a very difficult life. Aussies see sport as their single valuable input into the world..lets be honest..name 3 aussies who have done the world a service...so..sport is the answer..and when they win...they are damn loud..when they lose...its always someone else fault. At the end...it is a country with only 20 million people who provide an excessive amount of world champions and are very proud of their sporting achievements.
Alexikokopops Posted 19 August 2008 Posted 19 August 2008 I've always been told it was Prisoners On her Majestys Service Nah, all them acronyms are made up to try and explain it, not the reason for it. No one's really sure where it came from is what I heard when I were at a museum in Australia.

I'm a hypocrite! 175,000 brits emigrate each year - come, join the exodus! btw, i always thought pommes was all about potatoes, cause we're all white and starchy? ha, now there's the next great british crime show, about a potato and a small wooden box that solve crimes..... starchy and hutch-
