Samilktray Posted 22 August 2008 Posted 22 August 2008 After nearly 2 months of being messed around by PC World and there 'Tech Guys' over my computer theyve finally caved. Been given the money to buy a new computer/laptop, so i need some recomendations. I need a laptop which will be capable of running Football Manager and housing alot of music on there for within £650. Any suggestions?
MC Prussian Posted 22 August 2008 Posted 22 August 2008 I wish you had more money than that. I'm no longer a regular laptop owner and proud of it. PC laptops just won't really do it, but you might want to check out http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/?tag=cnetfd.dir for more assistance.

Thats the cash i'm being given from them. They sent me out a brand new graphics card and mother board, and have now told me to keep them and sell them, so however much money thats worth will be added to the budget. But thanks for the link.

JoeyB Posted 22 August 2008 Posted 22 August 2008 Go for a desktop instead, they are much better, easier to upgrade etc and cheaper than a laptop. for a PC with the same spec as a laptop you can save like £200 Just a quick look on currys and this one looks good for £700 http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/store/cur_...gory_oid=-34986 Entertainment PC so it will do what you are looking for
Alexikokopops Posted 22 August 2008 Posted 22 August 2008 appart from having to buy all new copies of your software and FM, Mac's are pretty, but thats all I'm going to buy a Mac. All I really use my computer for is the internet, emails, Football Manager and watching stuff. I embrace pretty.

MC Prussian Posted 22 August 2008 Posted 22 August 2008 appart from having to buy all new copies of your software and FM, Mac's are pretty, but thats all Err... Depends on the amount of software you're already using and there's also tons of cool freeware out there that can easily replace most PC programs. My FM 2008 works on PC AND Mac, btw. And not only are Macs pretty, they're also pretty powerful.
Bert Posted 22 August 2008 Posted 22 August 2008 Haven't you forgotten something? Porn is included in "watching stuff"
Katy Posted 22 August 2008 Posted 22 August 2008 Lappys are great but each to their own. I have an Acer aspire 5315 and it does me, it cost £299. I would never go back to a desktop personally.
James. Posted 22 August 2008 Posted 22 August 2008 Porn is included in "watching stuff" I actually meant Alex had failed to boast about the inevitable Virgin discount he'll get on purchasing a Mac.

Desktops are cheaper and also come with more GB and memory, too. However, it's more a question of usage. I've had a desktop for years, but always felt hindered by not having been able to take it with me (out of practical reasons, obviously ). I've opted for a MacBook Pro instead, allowing me to work with my own computer whenever and wherever I want to. I've had a couple of issues with my last desktop and it was a pure hassle taking it to the retailer to have it repaired and then getting it back once more. Transportation mayhem!
Samilktray Posted 22 August 2008 Author Posted 22 August 2008 If I wanted a Mac book or whatever, whats the cheapest I could pick one up for?
Alexikokopops Posted 22 August 2008 Posted 22 August 2008 I actually meant Alex had failed to boast about the inevitable Virgin discount he'll get on purchasing a Mac. 17 % off
JoeyB Posted 22 August 2008 Posted 22 August 2008 If I wanted a Mac book or whatever, whats the cheapest I could pick one up for? Talk to alex, bit of cash in hand and TLC should sort you out ;)
Alexikokopops Posted 22 August 2008 Posted 22 August 2008 If I wanted a Mac book or whatever, whats the cheapest I could pick one up for? £699 with 1GB Ram and 120GB hard drive. Oh, and 2.1 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (whatever that means)
Samilktray Posted 22 August 2008 Author Posted 22 August 2008 £699 with 1GB Ram and 120GB hard drive. Oh, and 2.1 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (whatever that means) I'm tempted, I just dont know how well I'd get on with the mac software.
Alexikokopops Posted 22 August 2008 Posted 22 August 2008 I'm tempted, I just dont know how well I'd get on with the mac software. Why worry about functionality when it looks that pretty?
Samilktray Posted 22 August 2008 Author Posted 22 August 2008 Why worry about functionality when it looks that pretty? I like your reasoning.
MPH Posted 22 August 2008 Posted 22 August 2008 for £650 you really could get a pretty decent pc - try to remember that any similar spec laptop will run slower than its desk top equivalent as the parts are made and adapted to work inside a much smaller environment... try somewhere like Mesh computers who will have a whole range of laptops and desk top computers at pretty reasonable prices... or places like this will alow you to design and build your own laptop pcspecialist.co.uk they do desktops aswell so you can pretty much desing your own computer depending on your budget... if you want more memory but a smaller hardrive then you can do that, for example..
coale39 Posted 22 August 2008 Posted 22 August 2008 2gb ram http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/White-Apple-Macbook-...id=p3286.c0.m14 Simular laptop http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Dell-Studio-15-1535-...id=p3286.c0.m14 Or get a really good Desktop for that money.
