Thracian Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 I know, conceding goals against Fulham is a disgrace. Lynch him! Goals conceded, be it against Fulham or Derby Reserves, are goals conceded. Plenty of goalkeepers have had inspired games against both kinds of opposition.
Nationwider Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 Posted similar before, its not about who's the best keeper.Martin has been sent/allowed to come to us (top div to div 3) to get match pratice. LFC will of insisted that he plays, if he doesn't they will take him back..simple They don't give a monkeys about us, or us paying part of his wages, just their keepers development. Sums it up exactly. Which is why I have doubts about choosing loanees over signed players but it doesn't cloud my views in this case that Martin has the potential to offer us much more than Henderson. All of the above. Liverpool "had a word" after Hendo got the nod in the first couple of league games. Expect Martin to get an extended run in the side.
Alexikokopops Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 Ah yes qpr new years day, poor game, also his first for 4 months. And if your talking about deflections, kevin Phillips free kick deflected off gareth mcAuley and went through Henderson. Any deflected shot would be hard for any keeper. You can't blame Henderson for deflected goal and not martin for one past him! Where did Kevin Phillips come in?
Paddy Posted 29 August 2008 Posted 29 August 2008 Where did Kevin Phillips come in? How did he get in there??? my mind must have been wandering! Of course I meant Beattie.
MC Prussian Posted 29 August 2008 Posted 29 August 2008 Not if he continues conceding at the rate he's done against Fulham and Derby Reserves - six goals in total! You tell me how much at fault he was against the Derby Reserves. And you can already subtract two of the Fulham goals, since they were deflected and unstoppable. That leaves us with four in two.
iancognito Posted 29 August 2008 Posted 29 August 2008 All goalkeepers make errors, misjudged crosses, spilled shots etc. Petr Cech had a nightmare in the Euros but he wasn't dropped because of that because his club and his country know that he is the best shot stopper in the business and he'll have better days. Why no-one gives Hendo that credit is beyond me. I know he has the odd 'moment' but some of his shot-stopping has been excellent not to mention his record against penalties. Why Liverpool give a shit about David Martin's development is beyond me. Their treatment of Scott Carson and Chris Kirkland in recent years has shown that they're really not bothered about developing good young keepers and would much rather buy in the talent from abroad.

FIVE managers have taken the decision to replace him, does that not tell you something about the him? shot stopping is a basic requirement and you can't carry him on the off chance we concede a pen either

bocadillo Posted 30 August 2008 Posted 30 August 2008 Henderson - Eratic, unpredictable.Martin - Eratic, unpredictable. Joe's spelling - Erratic, unpredictable
bocadillo Posted 30 August 2008 Posted 30 August 2008 Well at the moment we can only choose between Henderson & Martin (Logan seems to have disappeared off the OS Team Profiles) I wonder if that's because he is on loan at Luton.
Daggers Posted 30 August 2008 Posted 30 August 2008 Joe's spelling - Erratic, unpredictable Surely his erratic nature makes it entirely predictable that he'll get it wrong. Poor Joe - he's been copping flack for days now. Don't listen to these nasty people Joe, your Mum probably loves you.

Daggers Posted 30 August 2008 Posted 30 August 2008 Are we all talking about Championship Player of the Month nomination Henderson? Look at the quality of the other keepers in Div.III - he's one of the best...especially now Bunce has gone to Blackburn. I think people has unreasonable expectations about players. He isn't Premiership quality but, and this seems to constantly ellude people, we aren't in the Premiership.
Stig the Lawnmower Posted 30 August 2008 Posted 30 August 2008 it's much too early to judge. I've not seen anything to suggest that Martin is anything other than an average keeper, and I don't see how anyone else can at this stage. I hopr he turns out to be brilliant. we'll see. at this point in time I'd pick "the devil you know"
Flynny Posted 30 August 2008 Posted 30 August 2008 at this point in time I'd pick "the devil you know" "The devil, you know?". He is very tempting. And hell to play against.

MC Prussian Posted 30 August 2008 Posted 30 August 2008 If you're happy with even four in two you've a different outlook to mine. Of course things could always be better. We could be playing Premier League and compete in Europe, sure... But you do like talk things worse than they really are, don't you? For once, put some faith in the guys between the posts instead of giving out stick on a daily basis.
Father Ted Posted 30 August 2008 Posted 30 August 2008 I've just seen the highlights of the Fulham game and Martin's display is one of the worst I've seen for a long time. Poor reactions and he's meant to dive for the ball - not roll across the floor for it! Henderson would have saved the 1st and 2nd goals! Absolute rubbish is Martin, people say they have no faith in Hendo, I have no faith at all in Martin!

Father Ted Posted 30 August 2008 Posted 30 August 2008 Seems like the majority of people that went didn't think so Highlights Honestly tell me whether or not you would have expected better from Martin because in my eyes, even I could have done better! When he dives for the ball on the second one he doesn't even leave the ground and then rolls around on the floor!

Flynny Posted 30 August 2008 Posted 30 August 2008 Having watched that the first goal does actually look poor. The 2nd and 3rd are big asks but his positioning is pretty poor for both of them. Very, in fact.

Very, in fact. I was perfectley in line with the first goal and can tell you that Martin had no chance with it. He was going one way, it was a massive deflection that put swerve on the ball to just keep it inside the post. He did well to adjust his position to make an attempt at saving it in my opinion.

Like Syston, I was right behind it.
