SPF07 Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 Is it just me or does everyone that takes over at our place have something against Henderson?! He has never done anything particuarly wrong, in fact possibly the opposite putting in regular good performances, yet the manager persists on dropping him for another goalkeeper that clearly isnt as good. I.E Logan and now Martin. Any thoughts?
Alexikokopops Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 The man is a woeful excuse for a goalkeeper. NEXT THREAD Edit: I do mean Henderson here
Guest Chocolate Teapot Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 Yea, I don't rate Martin going by last nights performance. He fooked up for their offside goal, and looked generally shaky. Also, the first goal they scored was it deflected?
Monk Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 I thought for large parts of last night that Martin looked very good. Particularly on crosses. However his kicking is lop sided and the goals, well I might have expected someone like Fulop to keep at least one of them out. Hendo is OK. He has frequent blooper days but when he plays well he is pretty solid. I think the choice is a close one. I'd expect to still see Hendo play a fair bit.
Jay Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 The man is a woeful excuse for a goalkeeper. NEXT THREAD agreed can't catch and the worst offense of all doesn't communicate with defenders they have no idea what he is going to do if you can't command your area as a goalkeeper then you are always going to be in trouble

Father Ted Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 I rate Hendo more than this Martin. Hendo doesn't concede a single goal in 3 games, Martin comes in and conceded 4 in 2! From what I saw of him at Tranmere, poor communication, poor decisiveness and poor kicking.
Guest Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 Didn't knowitall say something about NP not having any confidence in Hendo? Personally I think it's a close call, Martin's played well and was unlucky with a couple of deflections last night
Jay Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 That will be the reason we started with 3 clean sheets and finished last season as well in the same way will it? you seem to have forgot last season finishing the season with 3 clean sheets is total rubbish we finished the season with ONE clean sheet in a row as we lost at home 3-1 to Sheff Wed in the penultimate game!!! and for one of these 3 clean sheets this season Martin was in goal for the league cup game!!! so you point is null and void I am afraid

Yes Martin was in for one but that was against 10 men. First goal last night was disgusting goalkeeping and from a personal point of view seen nothing to suggest he is better than henderson.

SPF07 Posted 28 August 2008 Author Posted 28 August 2008 shut up 2their 1st and 3rd goals last night took wicked defelections The first one was hardly a wicked deflections! highly over estimated.
bigneville Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 The first one was hardly a wicked deflections! highly over estimated. It was a wicked enough deflection to complete wrong foot the goalkeeper. Nothing Martin could have done from where I was standing.
Monk Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 The first one was hardly a wicked deflections! highly over estimated. What! I was on the 5th row and you could see it took a fairly large deflection. The original shot was going wide as I saw it and thats why he dived so late.
Jimmy Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 have you ever played in goal? when you have set yourself and started to dive even the slightest deflection is a keeper's worst nightmare, it changed the pace and direction of the ball a considerable amount considering the distance the shot was coming from and trust me from being in that position myself in the past that counts as a big defelction as he had no chance of readjusting
Bob666 Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 I agree that the first Fulham goal looks like poor goalkeeping on the TV highlights but those of us behind Martin's goal last night could see that it took a deflection - the shot also looked more powerful live compared to tv. I was more disappointed with Morrison's defending prior to the goal. I don't think that Hendo's done anything particularly wrong but Martin looks more of a confident goal keeper to me & obviously Pearson hasn't got much confidence in Hendo. However, Martin is not in Fulop's class so in the long term its not clear whether we intend to keep bringing in loan GK's or bite the bullet & pay for a class goalkeeper - I expect this won't happen until it's clear that we'll be promoted back to Championship.
Sooper Steve's shin Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 Never convinced by Henderson. For me, he's not commanding enough to be first choice. He has had good days, though, and is adequate back-up in League 1 or the Championship. Martin has good attributes, good pedigree and has shown some good things so far. I think Pearson will persist with him unless he goes right off. Our opponents haven't been great so far (in the league) so I wouldn't be too concerned about this approach of trying to build a young keeper up over the course of this season, provided of course that he's still our player next year. That's my only real issue with a loan player keeping out one of our permanent squad members. On a related note, Mark Bunn had a blinder by all accounts for Northampton against Bolton...
Alexikokopops Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 That will be the reason we started with 3 clean sheets and finished last season as well in the same way will it? So you've managed to pick up three games in which he hasn't conceeded a goal. I say three games, I mean two because Martin played in one of those. I'm pretty sure I can pick out two games in which he's been bad. QPR away, New Years day. Should have done better for at least two of teh goals. Sheffield United away, where he let James Beattie's free kick through his hands to leave us 3-90 down after about 15 minutes. It's no coincidence that every manager we've had has looked to get a replacement goal keeper in.

Samilktray Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 Not seen anything of Martin yet, but Henderson is from my experiences of seeing him in goal an awful keeper.
Monk Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 Oh pauly hendo you are the love of my life.............................
Raj Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 Oh pauly hendo you are the love of my life............................. You fancy him too then eh Monk??? Oh..erm....
syston_fox Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 So far this season they're both done a good job when they've come in and I can only recall one mistake from each of them and that was missing a cross but to be fair neither led to a goal. Last night there was nothing that Martin could do about the first goal - massive deflection! Second one was just a great strike and the third one was a hefty deflection too. Just the way the luck goes when you're away to a premiership club.
