I could just imagine Pearson explaining his need to get Dickov fit to Gradel and Adams before announcing the team.

As for Dickov's "very good game" I don't see much evidence of that judging by the fans' player ratings.

I think you'll find his average to be just over 6 which might put him close to this week's booby prize.

"Very good game!" You're not talking about his poker on the coach back are you? :D

Gradel played half an hour though and didn't play particularly well.

We're top of the league, we've just stuck four goals in away from home. Why can't people just enjoy it and stop thinking they could do a better job in charge?

I think it's being done for the youth and experience mix - with a fairly young and inexperienced back line, you need people like Dickov and Oakley around to help them through. The wing puts him alongside King in front of Gilbert and close to Fryatt as well.

Just my opinion Thrac!!

I think you may rely on ratings too much??

I thought he worked very hard, supported the front 2 quite well and had some good overall play.

Frankly im amazed there is any negativity about Dickov or Saturday's game, what was the result again?

All about getting him match fit innit!!

As for Pearson being obliged to play him, what a loada bollox.

Conspiracy theories should be confined to JFK,The lunar landings and 9/11!!

For the record Dickov had a very good game IMO, too many whingers on here!! :frusty:

What?

When did he have a very good game?

The only time he's had a good game since he's been back was Fulham, when he was played up front.

He was poor yesterday.

Thank god for that!

Seriously, what's wrong with people. Gradel has been carrying a... do you know what, I can't be bothered!

We could score almost every minute of a game, go 89-0 up but miss a 90th minute penalty and people would complain.

Just a thought,

How long will Gradel hang around being a 30 minute player?

When he is fully fit, Gradel has to start imo.

Exactly, and i would rather have Gradel than Dickov :P

Opinions differ in this game mate, i dont think he was poor-the result kinda suggests im closer to the truth than you!

I assume you didnt join in the standing ovation when he went off then?

What did he do then?

He barely tracked back, he didn't even offer much going forward. His only notable contribution was a ridiculously timed lunging tackle that earned him a booking.

He gets a standing ovation because he's Paul Dickov, not because he played well.

Just because we won 4-0 doesn't mean everyone had a game game pal ^_^

Whatever!!

I prefer positivity to negativity.

As this thread is about Dickov I would personally say he had a good game (ok maybe not very good) But I also think that everyone who gave him a standing ovation when he went off would agree. (Thats most people that were there by the way)

I think its a bit unfair to target Dickov for criticism. He's a striker being played out of position, stick him up front and he'll get the goals. Unfortunately for him, Howard and Fryatt are quite rightly the 1st choice pairing at the moment but if he gets his chance, then im sure he'll take it.

It's an interesting debate and has been highlighted largely because its pretty much the only question mark you could put against NP's decision making thus far. I don't necessarily buy into the conspiracy theories but must admit it is very strange to put a 34 yr old striker on the wing when we have 2 genuine right wingers chomping at the bit.

Gradel is a very potent weapon to have coming off the bench when the oppostion is tiring, but if thats the thinking then why hasnt Adams been given a fair crack of the whip?

Like i said, its the only "criticism" ive got so far but whilst we are winning in such style i think i can live with it!

Oh i'm not criticising him really, like you say, he's not a winger. But when people say he had a good game when I don't think he did, then i'll say so.

In fact, I agree with every word of that

Gradel might have been a bit subdued but he still sat the ball perfectly on Howard's head for what should have been a goal and gave Dyer a chance on the edge of the six yard box that he should have scored from. What captivating moments did Dickov have?

Dickov is a quality striker but he's no right winger and the fact we've scored four goals doesn't change the situation one bit. My comments have nothing to do with "doing a better job" either.

I go along to watch a good football match and I'm sure I'd sooner watch Max Gradel or Nicky Adams on the right wing than Paul Dickov from all the evidence I've seen so far. In fact we seemed to play considerably better when Dickov went off.

There were various reasons for this but one was that Gradel's playing "not particularly well" still looks a lot more dangerous than Dickov's supposedly "very good game" as referred to by another poster elsewhere.

My argument is not that Paul Dickov should be in the side ahead of Max Gradel.

The overall tone of this place is positive at the moment but threads like this drag it down to the point where we might as well be losing.

The key point is that we have so many games this season, we shouldn't criticise a successful squad rotation. We have a game on Tuesday and neither player will be tired or injured from their exertions yesterday.

It seems you are singling me out for your disapproval.

I personnally am nothing but happy about Saturdays result and performance of all of our players.

Im also glad we're sticking with Dyer as opposed to your mate Porter

Can't see your point seeing as I had Dyer Man of the Match, the same as most people, and picked both Dyer and Porter in my preferred team for the Cheltenham trip.

My concern has nothing to do with squad rotation. I'm all for squad rotation and feel as positive as the next guy.

But Dickov is a striker and should rotate with a striker. There no way he on earth that he's a winger any more than Tunchev is anything but an emergency left-back.

So many times people on here have complained about us having square pegs in round holes but now that Pearson's on a role all principles seem to fly out of the window.

Well I'll stick to mine. Cos I see no reason we shouldn't be strong in every position and just didn't see that as the case on Saturday, whatever the result.

Its early days

hopefully it is just building up Dickovs fitness as it is hard to break up the fryatt howard partnership.

can't see Dickov playing all season as a right winger. (I hope)

It will be interesting to see who he picks at Millwall, he might start with Gradel as it is at home

it could be a response to Stockport shakling Gradel at the first away game.

(however this doesn't explain why he didn't pick Nicky Adams)

Pearson shackled Gradel as far as I could see. He just ran one furrow down one flank and didn't appear to have licence to move elsewhere at all.

Even George Best would have had trouble coping with that situation. But then no-one shackled George Best.

At the end of the day, we are top of the League and winning games so why are people moaning??

I think Thracian you sometimes make some very good points but why do you constantly back Porter?? I think we have the best squad by far in Division 1 but the only weak player is Porter, can you not see he will never make it as a player at this level or higher!!! I was right about the Fryatt v Dodds argument and will enjoy winning my bet with you next year and i will be proven right here too, im no expert but i know when a player will never make the grade and Levi Porter is one of those players. Im sure he is a great lad and i would love him to do well but he simply isnt good enough!!
