Samilktray Posted 4 September 2008 Posted 4 September 2008 Don't really know what I give less of a shit about tbh, Setanta or England, Toughie. Pretty much sums it up.
Uncle Albert Posted 4 September 2008 Posted 4 September 2008 Don't really know what I give less of a shit about tbh, Setanta or England, Toughie. Exactly how I am feeling at the minute mate. Will still watch it going round mates to watch it so at least its free for me.
Corky Posted 4 September 2008 Posted 4 September 2008 I won't grumble too much as I get it FREE... but the news channel should be renamed "setanta old sports news". The stuff going along the bottom is usually 48 hours old!!!! Don't get me started on the spagtastic messages people text in. And further back than that. On Monday they broke the news that James Chambers had moved to Doncaster Tin-pot set-up.
Floating Fox Posted 4 September 2008 Posted 4 September 2008 Really hate Setanta. England games should be on BBC. End of.Watched Setanta coverage of Liverpool vs Sunderland the other week and all I can say is that the coverage was abismal. I don't think they could have picked worse pundits, commentators or presenters if they had tried. Sky and BBC should do all the football coverage. Moron. Could you have contradicted yourself anymore? I will agree that the news channel is wank, but its good to have some competition with Sky.
kevinwpratt Posted 4 September 2008 Posted 4 September 2008 I emailed them to cancel my subscription and they phoned me a month later to say i have to write via letter and until then i am liable for subscription....... By letter??
The Reverend Posted 4 September 2008 Posted 4 September 2008 Moron.Could you have contradicted yourself anymore? I will agree that the news channel is wank, but its good to have some competition with Sky. Well said. If you want Setanta, just get Virgin Media. It's exactly the same in every way, except with a different name. And Setanta for free.
lavrentis Posted 4 September 2008 Posted 4 September 2008 Well said.If you want Setanta, just get Virgin Media. It's exactly the same in every way, except with a different name. And Setanta for free. How much is it a month? We pay for the full package of sky at over £40 i think and we don't even watch some of the channels.
Uncle Albert Posted 4 September 2008 Posted 4 September 2008 I have Setanta and Sky Sports now I will be joining you soon, SKY+ next week and my Mum is treating me to Setanta so... Happy days!
dandannieldanok Posted 4 September 2008 Posted 4 September 2008 It amazes me when people say they hate setanta, but have got Sky installed who basically did the exact same thing 5/10 years previous by purchasing the TV rights to most sports. If you can afford sky you can surely afford setanta, get over it. I have neither and I really can't see what the fuss is about.
Unabomber Posted 4 September 2008 Posted 4 September 2008 Anyone know if there will be any highlights on after the game?
The Reverend Posted 4 September 2008 Posted 4 September 2008 How much is it a month? We pay for the full package of sky at over £40 i think and we don't even watch some of the channels. Well we get everything - TV, Internet and Phone in one package, so i'm not really sure how much it is. It says on the website you can get TV, Phone and internet for £49 a month. We get Sky Sports aswel so it's a bit more. I bet it's about 70-80 a month, thats for everything.
davieG Posted 4 September 2008 Posted 4 September 2008 Moron.Could you have contradicted yourself anymore? I will agree that the news channel is wank, but its good to have some competition with Sky. How is it competition - they show different games? The blame, if it exists doesn't lie with Setanta or Sky it lies first of all with the Football authorities who sold the games to the highest bidder with no thought of balancing in the ability of people to see the games. Same with the football commentaries. Also the EC for the ridiculous stance of insisting that the football packages are split in the interests of being competitive when if they are showing different games they are not competing. It would be like only allowing Tesco to sell baked beans and only Asda to sell sausages - if you wanted the whole meal you'd have to go to both to get it but they could each charge what they liked.
Alexikokopops Posted 4 September 2008 Posted 4 September 2008 No one cares about virgin apart from alex Moron.Could you have contradicted yourself anymore? I will agree that the news channel is wank, but its good to have some competition with Sky. Exactly, plus people who only have freeview can pay just £15 a month to get a decent amount of football, without having to spend £40 on Sky with the Sports package. How much is it a month? We pay for the full package of sky at over £40 i think and we don't even watch some of the channels. Well you can get 3 for £30 which includes phone, basic internet and basic TV, plus line rental. Then you can pay £12.99 (I think) extra for Sky Sports.
Simi Posted 4 September 2008 Posted 4 September 2008 Don't really know what I give less of a shit about tbh, Setanta or England, Toughie. I love you at times. What times kick off? Chances of me watching it are minimal. I shall be drunk from about 5pm onwards...
Maybes Posted 4 September 2008 Posted 4 September 2008 Shitanta. I see sky didnt reduce their subscription this season even though they have less games
davieG Posted 4 September 2008 Posted 4 September 2008 Shitanta. I see sky didnt reduce their subscription this season even though they have less games That's because there's no real competition to the games they're showing. It would be better if both Setanta & Sky showed the same games then people would have a real choice and it would force prices down or at least offer choice with respect to bundles/package deals.
sdb Posted 4 September 2008 Posted 4 September 2008 why are people moaning about setanta? it's good that sky don't hold such a huge monopoly now. look at the bigger picture!!!!!
davieG Posted 4 September 2008 Posted 4 September 2008 why are people moaning about setanta? it's good that sky don't hold such a huge monopoly now. look at the bigger picture!!!!! But they're not competing with each other they are not offering the same product, the matches they show are different
lavrentis Posted 4 September 2008 Posted 4 September 2008 Apparently the Setanta satellietes are cheap and often get interference.
sdb Posted 4 September 2008 Posted 4 September 2008 But they're not competing with each other they are not offering the same product, the matches they show are different yes but you can now get premier league and international games without paying towards the Murdoch empire - progress surely? And i'm sure Setanta beat Sky to some of what they show so surely that's competition?
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 4 September 2008 Posted 4 September 2008 But they're not competing with each other they are not offering the same product, the matches they show are different I don't think Setanta want to do a ITV digital - bid £4000000000000000's for Premier league rights, get them and then think = oh fook we have to charge our 100,000 viewers £29,999.99 each to make it viable or we're bust! It's slow progress - England games would have been better to get if we were actually doing well as a nation - however i expect that also meant they were a tad cheaper. FA Cup is a decent move. Main issue I have with Satanta - it seems they've teamed up with ITV so that they get the highlights packages - thats bum, ITV should give up all attempts at sprots coverage!
davieG Posted 5 September 2008 Posted 5 September 2008 yes but you can now get premier league and international games without paying towards the Murdoch empire - progress surely? And i'm sure Setanta beat Sky to some of what they show so surely that's competition? Can't see it myself, yes their competing with each other but from a customer perspective there's no competition if you want to watch a specific game you have choose whoever is showing it. You can't say I'll use so and so because they provide better value. If we were in the Prem and you wanted to see all LCFC's games you'd have to subscribe to both Setanta and Sky I really can't see the competition.
The Stig Posted 5 September 2008 Posted 5 September 2008 But they're not competing with each other they are not offering the same product, the matches they show are different They compete against each other to gain the rights packages. Of course they show different games, you can't have two networls with one rights package. Setanta won 1 of the six Premiership packages, and the FA contract, entitling them to home friendlies and away qualifiers, and on certain games, the rights to sell highlights to other broadcasters.
Katy Posted 5 September 2008 Posted 5 September 2008 There was a thread about this a few weeks back and I'll say now what I said then. The commentary and the whole set up is too ITV digital for my liking plus I hate the way they bug the managers during the game in the non league games. Having said that, I don't have Sky and I like to watch football on telly so I have it on freeview. If I watch it with the sound off then it's not so bad. Quite correct in saying England games should be on the BBC though
